Also, on pages 31-39, the case entitled: Peter, a Slave, vs. The State of Mississippi" involves Peter being charged with murdering the overseer of his master. This is an incredible read as well as a piece of black history that should not be forgotten. This book has all of its 864 pages. The cover is well worn leather but makes a very attractive display. Mainly through journal entries& letters, about the rather amazing naval career of Francis G. Dallas during the years 1837-1859. A brief synopsis is as follows: Having been dismissed from the Naval Academy for dueling(in regard to something having to do with his previous service aboard a Navy ship) Dallas offers his services ... moreto the German Navy and becomes a Captain. When the German Confederation disintegrates. He loses his command and later requests and receives an appointment in the US Navy. Thereupon he sails with USS Decatur in the Pacific and later(in 1855) disembarks with the ship’s crew in the Washington Territory and engages in warfare with the Indians who were attacking the newly-formed settlement of Seattle. Whew. This guy was interesting and also quite a character) The book also includes an Intro that explains the“world naval situation” during the years Dallas served as well as a lengthy Appendix(pp. 245-292) that contains a narrative written by Commodore Thomas Phelps. Who also served aboard the Decatur as a young officer and which tells about their exploits during the years 1854-7 in great detail. Condition: The binding is tight and the book is nice& square. This has“paper-covered boards” with a fancy vellum spine—there is general soiling of the boards and some light age-spotting on the spine. Also. Please note that the vellum is folded-over at the top& bottom of the spine, which makes it bump-out a bit. But this is how it was made. The pages are in very good condi

It covers 1 NEPHI 13: 31-42 AND 14: 1-4. AMERICA HISTORY FORESHADOWED. THE BIBLE AND THE BOOK OF MORMON. This book was translated by Joseph Smith. First prophet and president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was published in 1830. It is in VERY good condition. A LITTLE BACKGROUND OF THIS ORIGINAL BOOK OF MORMON- Identified as a sacred book of ancient scripture. It was translated using spiritual gifts by Joseph Smith, from what he explained were plates of gold deposited in the side of a prominent hill in the state of New York and found only after the location was pointed ut to him by an angel. The book was printed in the three-story Egbert B. Grandin building ... morewhich housed a print shop on the third story, a bindery on the second story, and a bookshop on the first story. Joseph’s brothers Hyrum and Samuel and their father Joseph Smith Sr. joined to supervise the printing and distribution. The first edition is printed on pure cotton paper that has remained soft and supple. Now gracefully sprinkled with foxing(fox-colored spots) wherever organic impurities or iron traces were present in the paper reacting with natural levels of humidity or air. Parts of this description was written by John Hajicek We also have for sale a reproduction of this book. Which can be used to also authenticate this page.
