It encompassed the discovery of the continent by Christopher Columbus to the Present time of 1833. It embraces an account of the original tribes. They are not separated from the binding, but the pages are yellowed from age. However, the text can be easily read which is amazing for a book 180 years old. Each booklet is approx 8 1/2" by 11 1/2" and each one has from 30 to 40 pages.I have specified that the condition ranges from fair to poor but there are a few that are in fairly good condition. Most of the damage is to the outer covers which appear to be made of inexpensive paper and wi8th ove 100 years of use this has taken it's toll. As near as I can tell these are complete and. Offered for sale is this antique book titled. HISTORY OF THE NAVY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA by J. Fenimore Cooper in poor overall condition. It was published by H. E. Phinney out of Cooperstown in 1846 and is the Third Edition of this publication. It has an 1839 Copyright page date. The book is well illustrated with engravings and maps although the book does have heavy foxing and staining from age. It is missing the first 14 pages and the title page is loose although still there. I believe the frontispiece of volume one is also missing. The hinges on both covers are splitting but still hanging on by a couple of threads. The hard covers have wear and scuffing from time giving the book a great"old" look! Part of the leather covering is missing at the bottom of the spine as the pictures show. This edition contains both volume ... more1& 2 and has 2 title pages. Volume one has 276 pages while volume 2 has 248 pages. The volume 2 section appears to be complete. Aside from the loose title page and missing 14 pages in volume one, the rest of the pages appear to be there and still tight to the binding. All the pages are intact and although slightly discolored are clean and very readable. The front cover is in fair condition. You can read parts of the cover but it is stained and part of it has been rubbed away. The spine is in good condition with readable gold letters. ENGLISH HISTORY: British Books Banned in Philadelphia, PA, UNITED STATES in 1769
This is the Saturday. June 24, 1769 issue of'The Gazetteer and New Daily Advertiser' published in London by Charles Say. The paper measures approx. 11 1/2" x 17 1/2" and contains 4 pages. It has a brief front page article about a meeting in Philadelphia at which it was decided that the importation of books from England would be banned as a continuation of restrictions on British imports. The article goes on to state the" an honest Quaker got up and observed that it would be the height of folly to exclude anything that could not be manufactured in that country[the US] And as books came under that predicament, it would hurt the increase of knowledge to put any restriction upon them" As a result, the decision was overturned and books were to be allowed to be imported.

Antique 1866 History of the United States Civil War Era Book JA Spencer Vintage
Antique Book This auction is for a really nice and very rare antique book titled History of the United States. From the Earliest Period to the Administration of President Johnson. It was written by J. A. Spencer and it was printed by Johnson. Fry and Company back in 1866. The book is absolutely filled with steel engravings and the book appears to be volume III– not sure how many volumes there were. Looks like it covers 1810s to 1860 or so. Great piece and in excellent condition with just minor wear. Measures about 8" x 10¼" I charge a 5.1% sales tax to all Wisconsin residents- sorry. It's mandatory! Thanks for bidding!
