Billings M.D. expert speical agent. washington D.C. printing office 1893. 242 pages, this is from the Library of the University of New Hampshire and it has a few stamps and a book plate, but this was not a circulating book so there is and was no card thing. back cover is a bit loose. tons of info, but my favorite part is the 6 maps each from the two places. each with 5 colors and black. showing relative death rates for 1. total population, 2. White population, 3. Colored(their term) population, 4. under 5 deaths for Whites, 5. under 5 deaths for Colored. they are all shaded by districts. beautiful maps even thought the subject is morbid. THERE ARE CREASES ON THE first couple pages, and there is one piece on the spine that says Washington and Baltimore, it is an attached piece of book cover, there used to be a few more on the spine with more information, but they have fallen off. The book is subtitled"Containing Original Essays, Extracts From New Works; Historical Narratives; Biographical Memoirs; Sketches of Society; Topographical Descriptions; Novels and Tales; Anecdotes; Poetry, Original and Selected; The Spirit of the Public Journals, Discoveries in the Arts and Sciences, Useful Domestic Hints, c. c. c. This book was in my father-in-law's collection. He was an antique dealer/collector and a World War II veteran. It was procured by him in upstate New York many years ago. The book contains a myriad of literary publishing of historical significance ... morefrom that era including essays regarding the Revolutionary War. The cover is well worn as you can see in the third picture. The title page in the first picture is partially torn(though complete) and that page and the Note to the Reader page is hanging onto the spine of the book with 1 binding string. Then pages through page 8 are missing. However. Pages 9 through the end page(page 749) are fully bound in the book and each page is legible and intact and readable, though a few of the pages are a bit stained. The very last page(Index to the First Volume) is torn on the bottom and missing. I have tried to describe accurately the condition of the book above. Please send me questions as you may have them. Thanks for looking up for bid is this old rare book I found at a sale. I have been doing some research on it but have not had to much luck finding any like it out their. Anyways it is a hard cover book and on the outside binding as seen in the picture it says Dictionary of Decisions. On the inside of front cover is a tag as in picture also Vermont State Library purchased from Boston Book Co. in Feb.17.1896. The cover page it says Decisions of the Court Of Session from the year 1733 to the year 1754 it is Volume#1 edited from the original manuscript by William Maxwell Morison, ESQ. ADVOCATE and it is dated 1813. EDINBURGH this page also has a seal stamped in page for Vermont State Library. Here's a beautiful solid oak Bible stand/easel. When I bought the stand I was told it came from a church in Scottville. Il. The picture depicting Christ carrying the cross came from an antique 19th century Bible and was later put on using decoupage. The brass eagle was also added to simulate Isaiah 40:31 This is a one of a kind piece and will really add some beauty to displaying your Bible Rear board with picture measures 19 3/4" across and 12 1/4" high. Bottom lip that supports Bible protrudes 1 1/2" The picture itself measures 12 1/2" wide X 7" high(removed from a 19th century family Bible) I refinished this stand and decoupaged the picture using mat-antique finish, very nice rustic finish to it. The top and bottom of the spine are frayed and there is general wear to the jacket. Something was glued inside the front and back cover. Leaving residue. Vintage National Geograhpic Book and it's Volume 31. Jan-June 1917. The book was from the public library in Orleans. Nebraska and does have some minor wear on the covers. I did not check to make sure every page was in the book or check every page for damage. This issue has a fair amount WW1 stories and pictures. But we did examine each book carefully and all the pages, covers, and binding appear to be sound with the usual yellowing and signs of wear one would expect on a set of books that is 60 years old! THIS LEATHER BOUND LEDGER IS FROM PRE STATEHOOD MAINE. You are bidding on one 227 page( double sided) plus index of 7 pages with 193 names) leather bound account book dated 1812 to 1839. Front paper on inside cover says: William M. Cobb Ledger No. 1" Then there is a seven page index listing alphabetically the people whose accounts are inside and on what page(s) those accounts are on. I just noticed that each page has a left and a right. Owed to him on the left, paid on the right. Each of those pages are numbered the same left and right. From what I can see this was a blacksmith. Many entries for shoeing horses; making nails; repairing chain. Hoes, flounder spear" and many other iron items. Also odd day work type jobs and things like"wintering two cows" Payments were in cash. Herring, pollock, potatoes, old farm implements, ... moreholabout(halibut? by"cash& 17 year old anchor" coal, etc. Very interesting group of items. Some Schooners on the list of clients but mostly individuals. Index has 193 names. A Samuel Adams is mentioned and his signature is there(see 2nd& 3rd pics) BUT IT IS NOT FOUNDING FATHER SAM ADAMS as founding father Sam Adams died in 1803 before issuance of this ledger. Boothbay is mentioned on loose receipts as seen in last picture. There is also a legal document commanding the Sheriff of Lincoln County Massachusetts(Maine was then part of Massachusetts-Maine became a State in 1820) to"attach goods or estate of William M Cobb of Boothbay" in order to settle a debt. It is dated 1817. It can be seen in second last picture. Old laid paper. Old ink, old script. It is leather bound. Very important and interesting old historical ledger. As I had time I added names of the people mentioned starting from the front of the ledger to the back. Actually the first one is 1811 a little earlier than I thought. FOR SALE is a RARE book set in the Deseret Language. The largest book is the Mormon Book of Nephi and is hardcover. Blue in color, in good condition with some minor fraying and wear on the book edges. The Book of Nephi was printed in New York for The Deseret University by Russell Bros. in 1869. The two smaller books are the Mormon Reader books 1 and 2 in the Deseret Language. Both printed in 1868. Both Readers 1 and 2 are in good condition with some wear at the edges and small stains on the front covers. All three books in this set have perfect, clear and crisp pages with no water staining or damage. The spines of each book is in very good condition. The books had been appraised in 2004. It was found that all three books together in the year 2004 had an estimated value of $4.000-$4,800.
