Offered is a sweet little kitty pillow made from an awesome 1880s crazy quilt that has some amazing embroidery and hand painting.more goodies will be coming from this quilt very soon! This sweetie measures approximately 15 inches tall by about 11 inches across at the widest bottom part. It is plumped with new premium fiberfil and the back is from the backing of this same crazy quilt. The backing is a deep wine colored fabric. I believe taffeta, but maybe a heavier silk.just not sure. What makes this fabric so interesting is that it has white raised intertwining circles which appear to be painted or stenciled. This kitty proudly showcases some large white pond lilies with their green lily pads. The embroidery is detailed and lovely.there are even some gold chenille worked stamens. I've tied a black velvet ribbon around the kitty's neck and have added a beautiful butterfly pin.easily removable if you wish to wear it or give it as a gift. The butterfly's wings are Mother of Pearl encased in a gold tone metal. The dimensional eyes are white faux pearls.sweetness! Vintage Late 1890's Crazy Quilt Velvet, Silk and Satin - Wonderful Embroidery!
Here For Auction from an Ohio Estate is an AMAZING. Beautifully Hand Crafted, Hand Embroidered, Crazy Quilt from the late 1890's to early 1900's. It's difficult to show all the incredible embrodery on this quilt as I'm limited to 12 photos. Red Velvet Border is stunning.the handwork is outstanding. For anyone who's a quilter this is To Die For. In my opinion ready to display or use! It is in great condition for its age as it was found in a Lane Cedar Chest with no mothing or rips where it has been for years! There is a small separation on on of the blue squares which could be repaired. The grandaughter told me that her grandma did this prior to the grandaughters mom being born.the granddaughter is in her late 50's) The back of the quilt is present and nice too. The stitching is simply"OUTSTANDING" and alot ... moreof it is the"turkey-foot style" This Quilt.is about 58 inches x 68 inches. PLEASE EMAIL ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS ON THIS GREAT ESTATE QUILT and I SURE WILL ATTEMPT TO ANSWER/AID YOU! The colors are excellent and there is No sunlight damage! Antique Vtg Hand FANCY STITCHED Velvet Satin CRAZY QUILT VGUC DATED 1893 62 X 51 Hi, up for auction is this very nice hand stitched vintage quilt from 1893! This quilt is in VERY nice condition for it's age! It must have been stored very well for years because it shows only minor signs of wear- and those signs are all on the reverse of the blanket. Some sun damage(faded lines where it was folded) and a couple of minors stain is most of the evident wear. The front is immaculate- no staining. No rips and no tears/holes. Really in GREAT shape- heirloom worthy piece! The colors of the piece are vibrant- there are lots of bright velvets and some satin. Plenty of fancy stitching. There is written"1893" in stitching on one little panel. Plenty of names of people who contributed to the quilt. I believe the date of 1893 is authentic. ... moreThere is one satin panel which has the writing"Church The Clothier. using this info. I was able to find a reference online to a Henry Church who had 2 clothing stores in Connecticut in 1894(apparently he had been in business several years prior) The piece of fabric incorporated in the quilt is probably the back inside of a older Henry Church dress where the brand name would be located. Here is the reference: Clothier and Furnisher Vol 23 1894" Mr. Henry Church. Church the Clothier, at Danielson, Conn. Who also has a store at Putnam will soon move into a new store in a new block. The fixtures and style of the store will be the best in town and better than many out of town. The dimensions of the quilt- 62 inches long by 51 inches wide. It is made of silk. Brocade and velvet squares with heavy embroidery and appliques including Kate Greenway figures, swan, crosses, flowers, dogs and many others wonderful figures. It is a friendship quilt made by a circle of friends who have initialled and signed many of their quilt squares. Some of the signatures are dated 1898. Each quilt square is made of tiny shapes ... moreof materials sewn together into a bigger square. The quilt measures 60" x 60" It is a beautifully made quilt rich in colors and shapes. It is over a 100 years old and is not in good condition but quite worn in places. Silk fabric does not age well and some of the silk squares show fabric loss and splits. There are some stains on some of the squares. There are about 17 squares that show silk splitting or damage. The edge stitching is very worn in places and gone in others.The back of the quilt is is worn through in several places showing the batting. I have tried to photograph these areas of wear. A couple of the appliques are gone showing an outline of the figures on the material. I was told by a quilter that a lot of the damage could be repaired or replaced or that many of the squares could be used in another quilt. Please be sure to enlarge the images to see the details before bidding. Regardless of its age wear, this is a fabulous Victorian quilt rich in design and history that I believe still displays well and would be well worth the restoration. This quilt includes so many embroideries. Appliques, pleated fans and hand painted items. This is a treasure trove of needlework It is mostly in good condition with a few fraying spots and break down of certain fabric and paint. It has been backed more recently with a satin type fabric. This does not draw away from the beauty of this piece. It has in fact helped to preserve it. 1800's Velvet & Silk Crazy Quilt Embroidery Fancy Stitching 51 & 63 "
This auction is for an antique crazy quilt. I want to say that I bought the quilt top at an estate sale 30 years ago from the Grand-Daughter. It dates to the late 1800's. I paid someone 300 to put a backing on it. So it is complete, then packed it away. It is just lovely with a combination of embroidery and appliqued pieces. I am not a fabric person so I don't know what the proper terms are for the different types of stitching. There is one piece that has the makers initials FEB. We have a problem, but what a charming problem in this piece of rural Spartanburg County, S.C. history, a lovely(yes, it still is) crazy quilt of silk, velvet, feed sack and cotton, some silk has shattered and is shattering, but there's nothing at all fragile about the rest of the quilt ~ and it's very clean, a definite plus. I think it started shattering before it could be used! The pieces were placed on muslin or feed sack(there's one pic that shows a portion of a 100-lb. feed sack) for a foundation and the back is a yellow muslin; someone has removed some of the silk that was obviously shattering, and it looks quite natural in those places, with the muslin or feed sack now part of the whole piece. Some pretty astonishing fabrics in this, and a lot of small pieces, measures a good 80" x 80" and I would be ... moretempted to just take the still damaged pieces off and display/ use as is. Quilt is so vibrant one forgives the silk problem. Of course it would be marvelous used for crafts(although I don't approve of that unless it's the only way to keep some of the original quilt preserved. From an estate in Dallas Texas is a beautiful antique silk and velvet Folk Art Crazy Quilt. Found with this quilt was a note that stated that the Grandmother handmade this silk blanket from remmants of ties and clothing from the family. It would have been made in the early 1900's to the best of my guess. The top is all handstitched. The back has been machine sewn to the top except for one side which looks handstitched. Handtied with a yarn in places. There are a few(maybe 8) where the silk has come unstitched or is seperated. I have tried to show some of these in the photos. There are a total of ten pieces in the lot, the first being the cloche hat someone had started but not finished. It's made up of four velvet pieces, in a soft taupe. If you are interested in it as a hat, it appears to be a medium size because it fits me. If you want the velvet, you'd have to dismantle it, of course. Amy Smith A little bit of information about the little historical town where I purchased this lovely quilt top: It came from Shipshewana. Indiana, a very small town with a population of 536 people, most Mennonite& Amish. The town was named after Chief Shipshewana of the Potawatomi tribe of Native Americans. Shipshewana was where the"Trail of Death" began ~ The US government forced march nearly 1,000 Potawatomi men, women, and children from Shipshewana to the Osage River in Kansas. Many different silk& velvet scraps in just about every color& print you can think of. in all different"crazy" shapes. There are plaids& hand painted silks, embroidered silks, solid velvets in greens& blues, reds& burgundies, warm earth tones, golds, purples& more. An American flag was hand pieced in one block while a four leaf clover was made in another. All of the stripes in the flag were pieced; it is not a striped piece of fabric. You'll see hearts& some other shapes as well. The embroidery is fantastic ~ It's all done with different colored cotton threads using many different embroidery stitches. There are a few initials embroidered in different places, O, M or W. The entire top was pieced completely by hand, embroidered by hand, all pieced to 15" cotton blocks. You can even still see her basting stitches. Overall, this top is in very good condition. I counted 11 pieces, silks, that have worn through all these past years. The quilt is very old and made from rich velvet and silk fabrics. There are little embroidered rosettes and turkey trot stitching. The velvet pieces are the largest and in good condition. The silk pieces have some damage; 6-7 pieces have holes and shredding from age. It measures 58" x 74" and the backing is a blueish-purple color cotton fabric. The backing has no holes. Stains or wear, but is slightly faded. The quilt is quite heavy and the fabrics seem sturdy, except for the silk pieces. It has a light musty odor from decades in storage, but is fairly clean. One piece features three girls with muffs. One piece(light blue blend to white) has a furry texture. Two squares have areas made up of tiny log cabin patterned sections. They are all basted to a cream colored backing(cotton, muslin? and sewn with a six stitch per inch joining. The really eye popping aspect of the squares is the amount of hand embroidery. Good-sized piece of a 19th century Victorian crazy quilt or coverlet made from silks and veltet scraps that hve been embellished with embroidery. It is a'Crazy' pattern as odd-shaped pieces of silk have neen used. I think it is English. It looks as if it has been cut from a larger quilt, perhaps the central panel. A few of the patches need replacing as they have completely deteriorated, a few others show wear or damage, but overall the effect is very pleasing, it is large enough to make into an occasional tableclth or perhaps a couple of cushion/pillow fronts. up for auction and picked up from an estate is an old hand stitched log cabin type pattern with zigzag patches. it measures 74" x 61. there are many different types of fabric rectangle patches used. some textured. Velvet and silky satin. some of the silky satin patches have come loose, frayed apart or are missing. i tried to count and came up with about 33 that can be replaced and i tried to show them in the last photos. it is pretty as it is. the bottom side is a satin feel to it and is peachy pink in color. i did not see any holes or damages other than those problems with the 33 or so patches. any questions please ask and thanks for looking

Vintage Velvet and Silks Crazy Quilt
Dated 1932. What a beauty this quilt is! Made mostly of velvets, with a few pieces of satin type material, this crazy quilt is in wonderful condition. I have sold several over the past years, and this one is one of the nicest I've seen. It is unbound, and backed with what appears to be feed sack material, some floral. some striped, and some plaid. This quilt measures 74 x 63. I have shown the only 2 pieces that have any damage and they are both in the satin material. I have also pictured the lone different design, that of a butterfly. The butterfly and the date appear in the 2 center pieces of the quilt. You'll not see a nicer crazy quilt. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. The quilt features skillful and extensive embroidery and clever piecing with an ennate sense of style. Some of the silk pieces look like they've been painted. This piece is 62-1/2" long by 46+" wide. SUPERB ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY CHILD SIZED CRAZY QUILT WITH VELVET BACKING R41 43” wide x 52” long This was a spectacular handmade piece with really beautiful antique silk trims and fabrics. Like most antique crazy quilts it has a fair amount of damage where silk has worn through. It would probably not fare well as a bed cover today. But could make a gorgeous wall hanging. In the alternative it would certainly be worthy of repair. It has one large liquid stain in the middle(see photos) but is otherwise fairly clean. The blue velvet backing is a modern addition. This comes fresh from an estate in Iowa. Where I have acquired many antique quilts I will be listing this week. This quilt is truly gorgeous- a colorful and richly vibrant selection of quilt pieces in every size and shape. Some pieces also have been embroidered; there are a couple of pictures showing them. Some of the velvet pieces are worn- perhaps already worn when they were used, ... moreas 98% of the rest of the pieces are thick and soft as new. The pieces have been hand sewn together, then each has been outlined by a zig-zag stitch. The quilt is made with thick batting. This quilt has been very well cared for, and I could find no stains. Additionally, there are no rips, tears or holes, no frays and no wear spots(other than the velvets noted above) All of the colors are still crisp and vibrant. The backing is yellow-gold cotton that has been hand tied in rows to the front with brown yarn. The quilt pieces are turned under at the edges to create a hem on all four sides of the backing. This is a substantial quilt, in museum-quality condition! This quilt was lovingly made with great care and has survived in near mint condition. It measures 73 inches by 82 inches. Here are two crazy quilt squares that were beautifully fashioned. One measures 20 x 20 inches and the other is 22 x 22. The first one has some velvet fabric mixed in with the silk/satin. And the other one is entirely silk or satin. On the second square, the fabric in the lower left corner has some tears in the fabric(see picture) but otherwise all the fabrics look wonderful.

This unexpected survivor has a visual WOW factor not often found in its genre. Measuring 80” x 56” it is carefully composed of silk scraps with black silk velvet to develop an eye-dazzling trompe l’oiel effect of inny-outy cubes. It comes from an African American home in Cassopolis Michigan. But none of the family is sure who made it. It has lovely little hand tied black tassels about the perimeter and a black polished cotton backing that is hand stitched with delicate pulled and knotted threads uniting the top, batting and backing. Antique Crazy Quilt Top 1890s TENN Folk Art Family Tree Geneology Names Velvet
First. You should know I am not an expert on quilts. So I'll give the best description I can, along with good photos. I want to make sure you ebayers out there get accurate info from me, but if there is a detail I leave out, feel free to ask! Offered for auction is a beautiful antique crazy quilt top. It was found in Nashville. Tennessee. This crazy quilt top features the names and birth dates of at least 15 people who are apparently all related. By making this quilt top, it seems the family wanted to preserve part of their family tree and history. Like most crazy quilts. It is pieced together from different fabrics, but features velvet and silk. The basic pattern is a large star; most of the black diamonds connecting the stars have been embroidered with the name and birth year of someone in the family. The family names included are RUCKER, ... moreSTILLMAN and POWERS. Looks like the entire piece was made by hand. My approximate date for the quilt is just a guess, but it's based on the expert input of a friend who knows a lot about antique textiles, and the latest birth date on the quilt, which seems to be 18-ninety-something(Robert Rucker) They may have been a prosperous family, as there seems to be a lot of embroidered silk, printed silk and velvet in this piece. Measures APPROXIMATELY 72" x 60" For scale reference. I photographed it lying on top of a queen sized sheet. As you can see from the photo, the piece isn't a perfect rectangle. Some spots in the quilt have raveled or are nearly entirely gone. Some of the embroidery is gone. There are large, loose basting stitches meant to hold the top together until it could be quilted to a backing, and some of these stitches are gone or loose. There are age spots, yellowing and staining of the cotton and muslin on the back. Most of the piece though, seems to be in reasonably good condition. Antique Vintage VELVET & SILK CRAZY QUILT w/ Featherstitch Embroidery, 86" x 71"
Very old. Made of velvet and satin and what we believe is silk fabric, as well: we understand these old"hap" quilts were made around the turn of the century, mostly in Pennsylvania, but we are not sure of that information. We are not sure this quilt is that old, either, but it does look old to us and most of the fabrics we believe are true antiques on their own. Because of the many years this beautiful thing has been around. Some of the silk swatches(not so much the velvet or the satin) have rot and frayed. Some of those pieces will have to be replaced completely, as you'll notice below. Please check all our many pics and if you still have questions, ask us. The quilt was made in 4 distinct"quadrants" As you'll see below. Each quadrant is a small crazy quilt on its own. A wonderful antique crazy quilt made of silks and velvets, an amazing display of fabric patterns and stitches. With a bit of painting thrown in as well. Had been in my mother-in-law's linen chest for many years. She was a collector herself and said it was c. 1920's-30's. The quilt measures 60 x 69 inches and is bordered in golden velvet. The center square has the initials"L.N. and there is a corner square with"Y.M. and also a"C" and an"A. The quilt has an embroidered horseshoe and flowers and swirls and fences. The only way that I can describe this wonderful 1880s crazy quilt is stunning! The amazing ribbon work and embroidery are simply remarkable! The ribbon work is completely hand done and the attention to detail is absolutely gorgeous. Offered is a set of three(3) heart hangers which showcase beautiful ribbon work flowers all done on a deep plum or wine colored velvet. The flowers are done using velvets. Silks, and delicate open weave ribbon. Each heart measures approximately 7 inches wide by about 7 inches tall. All three hearts are firmly plumped with new premium fiberfil and each have a black satin ribbon hanger. They will come to you from a smoke free home. For the backs of the hearts I have used the same velvet backing of the quilt that the maker used on the front. It is interesting to look through the varied textiles used here, in patterns and color combinations that we don't always see today. There are stripes, dots, small scaled prints, bold plaids, Chinese embroidered silks, florals, cameos, and even a hand penned flower! A lot of excitement is created through the use of the embroidery bordering almost every piece of randomly placed fabric. The quilt squares are backed with solid pieces of muslin that have yellowed a good deal. As well as showing a moderate amount ... moreof brown spots. A very thin piece of cotton batting is sandwiched between these layers, also yellowed. Each block has some sort of whip stitching or basting along the edges, meant to have kept the layers together until piecing into a quilt could commence. Three of the blocks have a paper scrap pinned to them with names: Grandma, Eva, and Gertrude. It is likely that each of these women were contributing to this never completed project. Spectacular Hand Embroidered Antique Silk and Velvet Crazy Quilt
Here is an antique hand tied and exquisitely embroidered crazy quilt. There are so many colorful pieces all embroidered using a vast assortment of fancy embroidery techniques. The condition of this quilt is very good(probably the best we have seen in this type of quilt) With only five pieces seen suffering any kind of deterioration, ranging from splitting of the silk, to one small piece of silk which is mostly gone giving way to the creamy cotton beneath. The colors are vibrant. And the fabrics include brocade. There are stitches here that we have never before seen, including one example that looks like musical notes. The maker of this early quilt was obviously very skilled. The head and foot are wide bordered in a very pretty peach or salmon sateen. This is a lovely victorian crazy quilt block which is 18 inches x 17" in vibrant colors. All hand stitched. Most of the fabrics are velvet. Rayon and silk. Large Antique Early Crazy Quilt Butterfly 72 x 89 Beautiful Silk Satin Velvet Uncommonly large and lovely antique crazy quilt with emembroidered butterfly with many pieces of silk. Satin and velvet pieces in different textures. Some are hand painted or embroidered with flowers, vines, spider webs, symbols, little bird tracks, etc. Almost every patch is embroidered around or into the piece. The dimensions are 72" by 89" and is backed and edged in a tightly woven blue cotton that has a sheen to it. The condition is good with some wear to some of the silk/ satin pieces. The back has some bad places where the batting shows through. All looks to be hand stitched The colors are deeply rich and the layout of the piece work is well thought out.
