Old Mennonite Quilt Block Square 1930's Vintage Bleeding Heart Pattern FRAMED
FRAMED Antique Large Applique Quilt Square c. 1930's Pennsylvania Mennonite Lancaster County. Pennsylvania DESCRIPTION An Antique Mennonite made large Appliqued Quilt Square made circa 1930's. We found this locally in Lancaster County. Pennsylvania. A beauty of an old quilt square. Completly handstitched. This vintage quilt square from the early part of the 20th century has wonderful intricate detailed applique work and was certainly made by an accomplished quilter. Pieced by hand and made of all cotton fabrics the applique work is done upon a thin black cotton. The color combination is so charming, an offwhite, a warm pumpkin orange and a grass green. The design is delightful. And many of the old pattern names come to mind. There are elements of'Joseph's Coat' and'King David's Crown' also'Cross& Crown' ... moreIt seems to have the most in common with the"Bleeding Heart' pattern. We haven't identified the exact pattern, it may have been an original design. It certainly draws upon many of the Biblical Quilt Patterns available in the era of the 1930's. The entire quilt square was hand pieced and hand stitched. Minute stitches and tiny little pieces of fabric were cut and pieced carefully to create the intricate motif of hearts with twining vines and stylized diamond shapes. The overall effect is simply stunning. The outer edge of the quilt square is done in a 1-1/2" wide border of the pumpkin color. And the corners were mitered and the edges turned under. We slip stitched the quilt square onto a plain black fabric and framed it in a simple black painted rustic wood frame. Because of reflections that the camera captures. We had to photograph it without the glass. This will be shipped with glass covering the needlework, and wire will be added to the backing of the frame so it's ready for you to hang. Because this is square in shape, it can be displayed on it's edge also as we show it in one of our images below. Size: Overall in frame it measures 21-3/4

19c CRAZY QUILT MENNONITE BUGGY CRIB CARRIAGE QUILT WOOL SILK w PROVENANCE ANTIQUE MENNONITE 19c CRAZY QUILT IN VERY NICE CONDITION w PROVENANCE: DISPLAYS BEAUTIFULLY! This quilt comes with historically correct and meticulously researched provenance. I will include the quilters name and history via message and in print with your purchase. Please send all inquiries to me through the eBay site and I will be happy to provide you with the information before you bid. This vintage crazy quilt measures 35 inches wide by 64 inches long. It is done in mid to later 1800's dress silks and light weight woolens. The quilter used cotton shirting foundation pieces that have geometric designs in madder brown. Which may have lead to some of the shredding of the silks. Silk shredding is not uncommon as silk fabrics just did not hold up well throughout ... morethe years. The quilt is tied in intervals with autumnal color ombre wool yarn and finished in pretty little bows. The back of the quilt is a very dark almost black indigo blue with a double chevron styled weave. The light"dots" on reverse side in picture#18 are the yarn ties. Not lint. The edging is a black satin ribbon attached by a mechanical sewing machine. The rest of the quilt is all hand done. The pieces are embellished with herringbone stitches which was pretty much the decorative stitch used consistently in the 1870's to the early 1900's. That's not the only clue I used to date this quilt. A combination of stitches. Fabrics utilized for the top, the foundation fabrics, the backing fabric and the historical background and information of the quilter has helped me accurately date this quilt as made between 1875 and 1900. The new owner of this quilt receives the historical information. This way you alone retain the rights to it. And it is not just presented as a part of this ad. Stars& Bars An Antique Mennonite Made Quilt Lancaster Pennsylvania c. 1920's- In Need of Repair- DESCRIPTION An antique Lancaster County Pennsylvania Mennonite made country patchwork quilt. An impressive pattern and delightful calico fabrics. It's from the 1920's and is handquilted over the entire surface. This will need a good deal of attention to put it back into good usable condition. Please do read our condition report below. All the fabrics both front and back are cotton and it has a thick cotton batting. The handquilting is done in a black thread in a wide diamond gridwork across the entire quilt at 6 stitches to the inch. A striking visual design with wonderful use of color. From the little patchwork diamonds that form the very center of the star and radiate out to form this very large 8 Pointed Star in brilliant colors. ... moreIt's quite an eye catcher. And, the choice of vertical bar designs that make up the rest of the front of the quilt gives this old Lancaster County Quilt a really dazzling effect. The red, yellow and green tiny calico printed fabrics are charming and the overall appearance works so well with country decor. The reverse is done in a different red calico than used on the front. CONDITION This is quite an old quilt and has seen a lot of use over many years. It photographs beautifully. But has many deficiencies. The fabrics overall show fading here and there and there is wear with repair needed to a few seams along the joins of the patchwork on the front. The binding was hand turned and shows a great deal of wear overall. The wear along the bound edge is mostly seen from the back of the quilt. All along the back edge, the thick batting is peaking out here and there. The binding will indeed have to be reworked or replaced, turning or losing about 1" of the edge. Yes. It does have it's flaws, but at least from the wear on this pretty design you know it's a legitimate antique quilt. STURDY cotton 1890's Pennsylvania Mennonite Irish chain quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted, with nice red calico border and double pink background. It measures 78" X 78" and is in MINT. Unwashed condition, with no spots or wear. The quilt feels strong and sturdy overall. There are straight line and diamond designs quilted throughout at an even 6-7 stitches to the inch. The back is a wonderful late 19th century red print. The hand stitched binding is double pink, and the batting is thin. RARELY do you find 19th century quilts in such AMAZING CONDITION- this one is even more impressive in real life!

It is my quess that the the white fabric was bought in yard widths and possibly sewn together by machine,to make the overall width. then the rest of quilting and flower pattern, as well as trim, was sewn all by hand. maybe at an amish or mennonite quilting bee, which are very popular in this area) Those few seems are on the bottom fabric and inside seems so i cannot see the individual stitches. These pics are taken on a queen size bed, the afternoon sunlight is coming in the window. no flash. the approx size is 90 x 104. i do think it is lightly lined. Very pretty quilt! Antique MENNONITE LOG CABIN pieced QUILT Barn Raising Mute Solid Colors 100 yrs.
ANTIQUE MENNONITE PIECED QUILT- LOG CABIN PATTERN Up for bid is a lovely antique MENNONITE QUILT bought from Mrs. Weaver in the early seventies in the LOG CABIN pattern made with muted solid colors. It measures about 72" x 73" and consists of twenty interior 5.5" square repeats surrounded by a 3" inner coral band and an outer 5" darker blue border bound with 1/2" of the coral material. This particular variation of the pattern may be known as" Barn Raising" and can best be appreciated hung on a wall. The quilting is very fine; the smaller border is quilted in a braided pattern and the outer one in a leaf-and-tendril one. As to condition: there are some tiny spots(picture) and a few thin spots(picture) including one small hole. The outer binding is also frayed at the edge. I do feel that over the years ... moreit has faded a bit as well. It is a lovely example of the quality of design and workmanship from Lancaster County. PA. Antique Crazy Quilt- 80 x 66 BEAUTIFUL antique quilt hand made by Amish and Mennonites in Northern Indiana. There are a few holes and the edges are a little rough in places. I found two stains that look like bleed-through. I got this at an estate sale and the lady said her mother made this around 1914, but there is not any date on the quilt. Well made. But obvious age signs and areas of where the the original insulating material is coming out. But, in my opinion, still a VERY desirable display piece. I think she deserves a nice spot on a wall, or in a nice spare bedroom. The bottom side is is what I would call standard old style material. I see it on a fair amount of very old quilts. Binding is in good condition. And is a wonderful cheddar, which has just started to show a few over dyed green spots(quite common for this fabric) The colors are rich and vibrant. 1880s "Double Irish Chain" Mennonite Patchwork Quilt
A simple but well loved pattern adopted by Amish. Mennonite and quilters from all parts of America. One of the oldest block patterns and one of very few that has always been known by just one name. According to Barbara Brackman, the earliest known example in America dates back to 1814. There are, however, Irish Chain quilts dated even earlier and made in Ireland(based on the linen thread used in Ireland at the time) Precision piecing with a border that provides the perfect finish. Antique Quilt - c1910 Strippy Bars from Illinois - possibly Mennonite
Antique quilt. Circa 1910, Strippy Bars from Illinois, possibly Mennonite. It measures 75" by 84" with bars measuring 5" wide in red, pink, green, and yellow cotton prints. It is machine pieced and hand quilted in white thread in an allover Chevron pattern, with the direction changing in each bar, each line about 1" apart. There is a small blue and white check cotton on the back, and the batting is thin. Edges are finished by hand with the front brought over to the back. The backing is a white cotton solid fabric. Batting is thin. It is in very good condition. There is some minor fading in the folds, and one small repair.it looks like tear that went all the way through, and it was stitched closed. Antique Vintage Pin Cushion Quilt Satin Velvet Mennonite Glass Hat Pins Sewing
Discovered at a country store sale in PA is this classic hand made pin cushion on glass base. The top is quilted with triangles of velvet. Similar to a crazy quilt design. The edges are sewn with a satin material. The satin material is antique and has some wearing. Included are a new old stock box of hat pins, 1 gross round pearl, yellow in color. The pin cushion measures 7 1/2 inches high, 5 1/2 inches across bottom.

Vintage Mennonite"Double X" Antique Quilt c. 1900 ~NICE Gingham Plaid Fabrics! This GORGEOUS cotton 1900's"double X" quilt is precisely machine pieced and hand quilted. With a wonderful pale lavender/pink gingham plaid background. It measures 66" X 78" and is in excellent condition. With no spots or wear. There quilting is superb. With straight line and orange peel designs quilted throughout at an even 8-9 stitches to the inch. The back is a black and white gingham fabric. The machine stitched binding is a red calico, and the batting is thin. Beautiful plaids, shirtings, denimy-blues and other country fabrics are used throughout. The photos just don't do justice to this WELL EXECUTED turn of the century CLASSIC- it's much nicer in real life!

From Pennsylvania. Mennonite-made, c. 1940-1950. Bright. Solid PASTEL COLORS of blue, pink, red, orange, yellow, turquoise, purple and gold are used to make this king-sized, well-constructed and simply quilted STAR. The pure joy of its Maker is evident in the warm glow of the colorful palette. The STAR floats in its yellow sky and the quilt is self-framed with several blue. Pink and red borders. The"piecing" of the diamond shapes in each STAR"arm" is expertly sewn. The STAR is in the tradition of Mennonite Star Quilts. The BACKING is a slightly more golden yellow than the yellow of the front. The QUILTING THREAD is ... morealso yellow. Which makes it difficult to discern the quilting patterns against the yellow cloth, but it can be seen against the other bright pastel colors. The QUILTING echoes the stripes of the Borders and the triangles of the STAR itself. There are Trefoils quilted into the Two Sides of the STAR that give the Quilt its rectangular shape. There are Four Corner Blocks quilted at the corners in the Hex Sign pattern(or Quattrafoil in a Circle) These ovals were probably created from the same stencil as the Trefoils. Spectacular ca 1900 Basket Quilt, possibly Mennonite, never washed
I was told this quilt was Indiana or Illinois Mennonite but I have no independent way of confirming this attribution. Be that as it may. This is an absolutely spectacular example of the basket pattern quilt, measuring 88" x 71" and all hand quilted@ 6 to 7 SPI. I also believe the quilt has never been washed. 1800's WOOL MENNONITE / AMISH QUILT ALL hand stitched
This RARE beautiful 19th century Mennonite. Or possibly Amish. Quilt measures 72" X 80" and dates the late 1800's. The DOUBLE IRISH CHAIN pieces and quilting are hand stitched. The backing is cotton flannel and the batting is wool. The top is all wool with the very dark blue a lighter weight wool. The quilting is 8 stitches to the inch. This is from Lancaster Co. PA and was purchased in southern Ohio. There are some small holes and one area. As pictured, at the top from use. There is NO FADING on this quilt but I am having trouble getting a full picture to show it. The colors are true to the closer photos. It come from a smoke free house. A MENNONITE FAMILY PATCHWORK QUILT c 1920's Mennonite families followed the tradition of their Amish ancestors of presenting each child with a quilt when they married. This patchwork quilt was made by Mrs. Yoder and presented to her son. Ray. According to a note attached to the quilt, it was HAND PIECED using scraps of clothing. But Mrs. Yoder ran out of material for the pieces, so used fabric from Rays"little dresses" Each block is surrounded by pink Chambray, with pink Chambray for the borders and back, and pink& white gingham for the frame. Museum Quality Mennonite LONE STAR Vintage 1930s Quilt w/Original Cotton Seeds!
I bought this fabulous. Museum quality quilt at a special showing of a notable quilt seller at Ken& Brenda Fritz’s home in the early 1990s. The Fritz’s helped found the Folk Art Society of America and their personal collection of folk art was featured in a sale at the Skinner Auction house in 2001. If you know anything about high-end auction houses this is one of them. So we can say it has a good provenance. The quilt dates back to the 1930s and is hand-pieced and hand-quilted. It features the Star of Bethlehem in its center with fantastic stitching on and between the star to the border of the quilt. It appears that there are about 7 stitches per inch(please see photos) Another unique quality about this quilt is that it is batted(lightly) with farm-grown cotton with some seeds in it! I photographed the quilt on my queen size bed. It measures ... more68” square. When I bought it. The dealer offered to hand sew a sash on the opposite side so that I could hang it on my wall with an acid free poled/slat. see photo) The quilt is slightly faded and not as white as it used to be which I am offering it up for auction at a fraction of the price I paid for it. A Bold Graphic Design c. 1920's Pennsylvania German- Mennonite Made Log Cabin Barn Raising Quilt RED ZIG ZAG Border DESCRIPTION The late 19th and early 20th century Mennonite quilters of this area of Pennsylvania were known for their strong use of graphic designs. And this handsome quilt certainly displays that talent beautifully. This quilt is from a local estate here in Lancaster County. An outstanding example of an Early 20th Century Pennsylvania Mennonite made antique quilt. Quilted overall in a diamond pattern and all pieced by hand. The classic pattern of'Log Cabin Barn Raising' is framed with a bold graphic design of a bright red Zig Zag border. A superb visual treat. So vivid and eye catching. Made c.1920's of wool, gabardine and cotton twill fabric this quilt would make a striking statement hung on a wall or displayed ... moreon a bed. A handsomely executed pattern. The blocks are finely crafted of light and dark suiting, shirting and dress fabrics. The well planned and placed fabrics for the logs were carefully assembled and hand pieced. Each of the blocks have brilliant red wool hearths at the center. The same red wool fabric was used for the zigzag border of the frame and also for the binding. A black lightweight gabardine shares the wide outer border with the striking red zigzag design and the backing is a deep forest green wool. While most Log Cabin quilts are left unquilted. This one is quilted in black thread at 6 stitches to the inch in diamond quilting overall. There is a thin cotton batting. There are a few small scattered moth holes, and some minor repairs to the piecing. Also a few small repairs to the quilting that were done in red thread and can be seen on the reverse. The binding was applied by treadle machine. It was made of the same red gabardine used throughout the pattern and for the zigzag border. Showstopper! Log Cabin, Barn Raising, Pennsylvania Mennonite Quilt.
Made by Pennsylvania Mennonites in the early 1980s. This stunning Log Cabin quilt features exceptional craftsmanship. Wonderful color and design, eye catching wide double borders and unique scalloped corners! The quilt measures approximately 93" by 73" The fabrics all look and feel like cottons. The batting is light weight. Other than the solids used for the center log and the soft mint green applied binding the fabrics are all ditsy prints in varied colors. Expertly placed to create the sunshine and shadow effect- intense blue, green and red fabric strips are set alternatively against pastel hues of pink, blue, and green. The inside border is a blue. Rose and white small floral print and the outside border another small floral in green, blue and rust. The backing is a green and cream small print- and this quilt actually does look ... morewonderful on both sides. Extensive hand quilting with very neat and tiny stitches and likely pieced using a sewing machine. This quilt is in great condition and actually doesn't appear to have been used. The fabrics are clean. Bright and crisp. There might be a few small/ light spots that I've missed but I have examined the quilt closely.

She used the prettiest fabric in dark greens. Blues, purples, golds, reds& tans. all pieced to a white backing. It's a large quilt measuring 88" x 86" is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, holes or fraying. There is one place near the corner where there are some teeny, tiny yellow dots in the white backing, probably there when she made the quilt. They are very hard to see, almost unnoticeable(see last picture) Her quilting skills are evident on this quilt ~ tight, even stitches, 8-9 spi in feather wreaths, grids& straight line quilting. There are greens& blues, reds, pinks, yellows, oranges& purples. She used a nice solid mustard& lavender in between. It's a large quilt measuring 93" x 79" is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, holes, or fraying. There are only a couple small stains& I've pictured them for you. They will probably come right out with some Zout& Biz. All of the colors are still nice& bold, not faded at all. The quilt is quite sturdy w/medium weight all cotton batting. Every piece of fabric making up the"rings" has been quilted through 3 times. 1" grids are quilted in the mustard& lavender squares, a fleur de lis design w
