Antique Hand Made Red White Quilt 64x82" 1920's As Is
I have for auction a wonderful old quilt from the early 1900'3. It displays an interesting pattern all done in bright red on white; stitching on this quilt is superb; measures approx. 82x64" it is very worn but still lovely. Came to me along with the old red camp blanket I have presently on Ebay. Red must have been a favorite color in that household. It would have taken months to accomplish all of the hand stitching on this quilt; for its age it is still in reasonable condition although it is very worn down to the batting; nevertheless an interesting old piece of the conniseur of quilts or the collector. S&H is at the expense of the buyer. My preferred payment is via Paypal however should you wish to use alternative payments then please ask. I try very hard to describe my vintage items. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO FADING ON THE QUILT ~ IN SOME OF PICS IT LOOKS LIKE A LITTLE BIT OF FADING BUT IT'S IN MY DIGITAL. A white-out. GUARANTEED. ALSO. WHAT YOU SEE PEEKING OUT ALONG SIDE OF QUILT IS FRINGE ON A RUG THAT WAS UNDERNEATH THE QUILT. Fab T-Square(T is for temperance ~ women didn't have a voice in the 1880's but could sure speak out in their handwork) antique quilt, 68" square(perfect for hanging or for a twin bed or back of a chair, etc. from Spartanburg County, S.C. all the bells and whistles of a Southern textile village"Sunday best" quilt right down to the stitching, which is in the Southern traditional"ocean waves. In favored red and white calicos, all by hand, 2 interesting little cutout appliques in the sashing. Binding is in plaid fabric(Alamance Plaid? and there are several little"nips" ... moreor"bites" in the binding, not really noticeable unless you're looking for them- in one of the pics you'll see one I'm holding. Quilt is all cotton, all by hand. Backing is a tiny black or deep navy and white check, it's hard to tell which; and there is a very small fragile place not far off center in back that has"rubbed" away, showing us the wonderful cotton from the fields that was used for batting. On front I found 2 tannish small stains(see pics) ~ backing has several tannish stains which I couldn't pick up on the digital ~ all of the above I'm 99% sure could be removed with a good soaking in the proper product or, if you choose not to, hardly noticeable because of the graphic nature of the quilt. And that, my friends, tells what I know of the story of this so-graphic and beautiful piece of Southern folk art. VINTAGE ANTIQUE 1800S RED& WHITE OAK LEAF APPLIQUE QUILT ~ no reserve to start a new paragraph use- This red and white cotton quilt is done in what I think is an Oak Leaf pattern. Each design is hand appliqued. Using a tiny blind stitch, onto a 15" block. This is a summer quilt with no batting and minimal quilting. The quilting is done only around the outer edge of each block. Hand quilted at 7 stitches per inch. Binding was formed by folding front to back and hand stitching. Size is 64" x 76"+/ There are scattered small stains and wear along the edge. VINTAGE/ANTIQUE RED WHITE & BLUE PATCHWORK QUILT- 62"x80" - HANDMADE in MISSOURI
This is an auction for a VINTAGE/ANTIQUE RED WHITE& BLUE PATCHWORK QUILT- 62"x80" HANDMADE in MISSOURI. The majority of the 3 1/2" finished blocks are made of vintage cotton fabrics mainly red. White, blue in color- but there are a few blocks of greens, yellows. browns also in the quilt. The backing& edging are done in white cotton and the filling appears to be a white flannel(lightweight) The quilt is EXTREMELY OLD. Although I do not know the exact date of when it was made. It was my grandmother-in-law's quilt and she was born in 1901. My husband remembers her having this quilt& just knows that it something that she made. And obviously lovingly used. She lived her entire life in the"Lead Belt" area of the state of Missouri, south of St. Louis. This quilt is completely hand quilted. But finished in ... morea machine stitched binding. The quilt is NOT IN PERFECT CONDITION. There are some stains. Some tears& rips, some missing binding on the edges. The back side is not in as good of condition as the front side. As some of the back fabric is well- worn and has deteriorated. I'm guessing that is why there appears to be an 8 1/2" binding( on one end of the quilt- maybe to reinforce the back side where the fabric was damaged. But why she would also put it across the front side I don't understand. Maybe it was meant to designate the head of the bed where the pillows were to lie on top. I'm not sure- the quilt blocks underneath that strip do not appear to be damaged. A mystery that will never be solved, as Grandma died years ago, before I had the quilt and could ask questions from her. There are no musty smells and it has always been in pet-free. Smoke-free homes. Check the pictures carefully to see where I have tried to picture some of the damages. I have not made any attempt to repair or clean it. Judging by the Turkey Red and shirting fabrics used. I would estimate the top to have been made between 1880 and 1900. The top measures approximtely 74" X 75" There are a few small popped seams(top is hand-pieced) and some stains probably caused by moisture. Most of the stains are lighter- the stain at the center of the top is darker and about 3 1/2" in diameter. I have seen no fabric deterioration. This top would make a nice addition to your collection. Measures approximately 74" x 75" Generally good condition, bright fabric, with all major flaws shown in close up, the most noticeable being the spots on the underside(they also appear on the red side, but do not detract in a major way there) Some white areas especially along edges have light grayish areas which I do not believe are dirt(see sixth photo) There is wear to the point of separation all along the binding of the piece. This is a beautiful handmade quilt in red and white cotton. The pieces are machine stitched and yarn has been pulled through to tie. The back is a very pretty raised daisy design also in cotton. There are no rips or worn spots. Material is in great condition. I tried to take a photo of every spot I could find, some are very small and didn't show up too well. This quilt has not been laundered so the spots may come out. Also, the photo shows a bright red, it is a bright red bud not as florescent as the photo, the white is very white. It measures 66.5" x 72" It is filled with turkey red fabrics on a cream background. It is hand quilted at 6 stitches per inch. Hand pieced and hand bound in tan. Filled with a thin cotton batting. There are visible cotton seed fragments in the batting when it is held to the light. Very good condition. Freshly hand laundered. There are 2 small repairs. Antique Red White and Blue 16 Point Radiating Star Quilt This beautiful quilt is stunning. It's thin. With one-inch cross-hatch hand-quilting. The back is white cotton and there's minimal if any batting. The binding is white cotton applied on both sides by machine. 80" x 76" Thin and Lightweight. This quilt has rarely if ever been used. There are a couple spots on it which you can see in the pictures. Maybe coffee? They would probably come out. I have not attempted that myself. Antique Red and White Applique Tulip Quilt
14.00 Here is a wonderful hand sewn applique quilt with scalloped border. So many tiny stitches went in to the quilting and applique of this lovely old quilt. There are forty eight red tulips on tan stems against a white background. In groups of three per stem. Seventeen of the tulips or stem have some wear or shredding to the fabric. Some is fairly minor and some more apparent. The background appears to have fared well with several small holes to the top of the quilt seen in one area. Most of the background is in good condition, as is the backing. There is one good sized pale discoloration or area of soiling, which looks like yellowing or browning. There is also one area of binding which needs to be re sewn. I would not consider this quilt to be a cutter, however it could benefit from a little T.L.C. This Auctions is for A Early 1900's Handmade Patchwork Quilt. Wild Goose Chase Quilt" ~ Measures approx. 67 inches X 70 inches. Fabric used is red and white gingham and unbleached cotton muslin. Entire quilt was pieced together by hand with hand top stitching at 9-10 stitches per inch. There is one patch repair on side outer edge and one small repair on this quilt(shown at end of ruler) Appears to have had an outer binding attached at some point in time(binding was attached with treadle stitches) binding shows signed of wear. No other rips. Tears or stubborn stains. Light yellowing consistent with age. Fabric still nice and strong. Very pretty quilt for those who are partial to red and whites! Primitive Pillow 7 by 7 Red White Blue Star Antique Cutter Quilt Indigo
A fantastic primitive pillow made from a beautiful antique quilt square. The old fabrics are beautiful. The horseshoe print on the red fabric is really fun. The hand stitches on this quilt are amazing. I think you can see that in the photos. However. Too many worn spots mean the quilt can't be used-the fabric on the plain squares setting these blocks was completely shattered. So I've made pillows to be used as decorations-on your bed or chair, or in a basket. The pillow is about 7" by 7" The corners are slightly boxed, to give the pillow a nice shape. The pillows are stuffed with new bamboo fiberfill. The pillow has a complementary antique/vintage button sewn in the middle. Antique Red and White Quilt Patchwork Hand Quilted c 1920s
Antique Red& White Quilt Hand pieced and hand quilted. Red with white polka dots fabric is circa 1910-1925. Measures 74 x 76 inches. No musty odors. This block has two common names(maybe more) Duck Foot" and/or"Cross and Crown. Block size is 9 inches. Sashing is five(5) inches wide and is quilted in a feather pattern. Very good solid condition showing no signs of wear. No holes. No thin areas, no fraying to binding. Cotton fabric is soft and smooth. Batting is lightweight. When held to light, there is evidence of cotton seeds/hulls. I consider this a summer quilt. Provenance unknown as I purchased from an antique store several years ago. Quilt stitches are neat& tidy; 16 to 18 stitches per inch(top& bottom) Rows of quilting are close together making the appearance of a nice scrunchy look. Quilt lays flat. Binding was ... moreattached by machine. Concerns to consider that prevent it from being described as mint: there is one age spot along one side of quilt. Some of the red threads from the blocks have been sewn into the batting. Not noticeable from a distance. Can be seen when quilt is viewed closely. Along edges and on back. There is some general pale yellowing to fabric. I would consider it"off-white. I have pictured edge along side an ecru maltese coverlet that I have on my bed. All concerns are pictured. Quilt has been in my collection for approximately 6 years. It was only out as display during Christmas holidays. It was then stored in a closet wrapped in a pillow case. I have never laundered quilt as I felt there was not a need. If I were to keep quilt and display more often. I would gently soak in cold water in the bathtub and air dry. I have tested a corner of the red fabric to make sure it would not bleed onto white. It appears to be colorfast. When fabric is wet, the red seam allowance is visible. Although. 19th Century Antique Tulip Quilt - Red and White
This is a gorgeous antique appliqued tulip quilt in solid red and white cottons. The quilting is about 12 stitches to the inch. The quilt's binding is worn and there are stains on the back but they do not show on the front and they do not detract from the beauty of this quilt. There are tiny holes in one corner. This quilt is a rare find. I would date this between 1830 and 1875. Hard to do with the colors but the texture of the fabrics give me the date. Illinois, see the last pix, probably around 1920. It is 86" by 74" inches with 2 sides having a white and red 5 inch pieced border. There are 24 MAPLE CROWN or HANDS ALL AROUND or sometimes called Turkey-Tracks. 10 inch blocks. Excellent condition. Clean and sturdy. ANTIQUE CROSS QUILT - RED WITH WHITE CONVERSATION PRINT SHIRTINGS! C. 1900
This is a totally gorgeous antique quilt top. Given the fabrics. I date this between 1875 to 1900. The white in the quilt is a conversation print shirting as you can see in the close-ups. The quilt top was all hand pieced with little stitches and it lays flat. It has not been washed by me. I do have a cat so keep that in mind if you have allergies. I would wash this with one of those color collector sheets in the sink. That way the red will bleed on it and not on the white fabric. Since it has never been washed. This would be a good precaution. Those reds from back then tended to spread! It is a large top 84" x 92" and is just begging to be hand quilted. Ask any and all questions! On Apr-13-13 at 14:40:52 PDT. It is hand pieced of turkey red and natural muslin off white. It is crisp and never used. there is a spot of staining along an edge. That is shown in a picture. The stitches on this wonderful, and early American classic are so teeny tiny. The deep rich turkey red stars are so stunning against a background of white which is quilted in tiny.75 inch grids at a rate of 10 S. P. I. The overall condition is very good to excellent, with only some soiling and one area of obvious discoloration(all of which we did not attempt to clean) seen and shown in photos. Stunning addition to your shabby. Cottage, cabin, or just rustic bedroom I am unsure of the exact age of this quilt. But I know it was hand stitched The estate I purchased it from was an 79 year old man and it was made by his mother or grandmother is all they knew An amazing amount of time and work went in to this beauty As you can see. It is showing it's age in some places A few of the fabric pieces on the design have worn away(example picture 2) The edges are also worn I think it adds to the charm I do not note any major stains. The entire piece is covered in a tiny 3/4" grid quilting. Expertly hand quilted at an average of 7-8 stitches per inch but a couple spots with 10-11 stitches per inch. Hand bound in a turkey red/yellow printed binding. It measures 33" x 32" This piece has popping in all of the red pieces. From a portion of the print that had a caustic iron added in the dye, a few tiny tears, spotting, one thinning hole, one hole repair, and binding wear as shown in photo's. The quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted with all over quilting. The quilt has very tiny stitches with approximately 9 to 10 stitches per inch. The quilt has the thin cotton batting. This is a beautiful two color. Red and white, all hand quilted, patchwork, cotton quilt made in the 1930's in the sawtooth Star pattern. It is made out of red and white cotton, has four large stars, white backing with red border, nice white hand applied white binding, allot of beautiful quilting, is 84" x 92" will fit a double or Queen) and is in near perfect condition with no stains, rips, or defects. It shows no wear at all. It is nice and clean, no smells and is nice and soft. It is ready to put on your bed. This quilt was never used! Miss the old version of this page? everything on one long page. hbrbe. Ollected in Pennsylvania and made with evident confidence and skill. This highly collectible pieced baskets quilt is irresistible both for its rare red, white and blue palette and its endearing design which includes a charmingly off-center layout, grand diagonal sashed setting and delightful pieced checkerboard borders along top and bottom edges. Circa last quarter of the 1800's. Size The quilt measures about 72 x 83 inches. The blocks are 8 inches square and the half-square triangles 1/12 inches square. Quilting The hand-quilting is excellent. With 8-9 little stitches to the inch. Counting on the top side of the quilt only. The blocks are inset-outlined by the piece, with additional triangles and straight lines, the sashings have two lines running down their centers, ... moredividing them into neat thirds. And the setting triangles around the edges have nesting Vs while the on-point squares between them are quilted in vertical 1-inch lines. Construction The quilt is entirely handmade save for some of the long setting seams which are by machine. Backing. Binding& Batting The backing is another delightful black-on-white floral shirting. More densely detailed than the one featured on the front. It's in great condition. The narrow self-binding is rolled from back to front and hand-stitched tight. It shows small pops and edge fuzzing here and there all the way around. The batting is thin and even. Condition The quilt's condition is strong. Sturdy, supple and clean. It just has those two areas of extremely light surface staining(most of it mercifully disappearing into the darker fabrics) near top and bottom edges. There are also a few areas with very subtle dye lightening to small swaths of the Indigo Blue plus a couple bright white spots on the Indigo that look like original printing flaws. This beautiful antique quilt is from the 20's or 30's and is in Red. White, and Multi-colors in an Basket Pattern. It measures 83 x 65 and is in very good shape and has some of the most intricate hand stitches and quilting. This quilt came from an estate sale in Texas. ANTIQUE RED AND WHITE PINWHEEL STAR QUILT Description: This is an 1880's red and white pinwheel star quilt. Nicely framed with 3 borders. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. The quilting is at an even 8 stitches to the inch. Straight line and grid quilting. The front and back are hand stitched. The binding is applied and hand and machine stitched. The batting is thin. 100% cotton. Condition: It is unwashed and in very good condition. Minor staining on the lower left corner on the white border and into the first row of pinwheel stars and 2 stars up from the bottom. A pea size hole along the binding 37.5" from the bottom.
