Antique Vintage Primitive CUTTER Quilt TOP/Block Panel c.1870-80 CIVIL WAR ERA or earlier. This was bought from a Lancaster County. Pennsylvania antique dealer in the 1980's. Size: This piece of antique quilt top has 5 blocks. It measures approx. 10.5 inches wide by 56 inches long. The small Half-square triangles are 1.5" The large Half-square triangles are 9.5" by 8.5" and they have assorted pink stripes and prints. This pattern is difficult to piece and it is beautifully sewn by HAND. Color: The sashing is faded blue and white prints. Pink STRIPES, blue stripes, etc. There are Mourning prints, Indigo prints Tan, Cadet Blue, Red prints and Shirtings in the patches. Only 3 seams per block are machine-pieced. The rest of the patchwork is Hand-Pieced and the basket handles are hand-appliqued. Antique Vintage Lot of 4 HISTORIC OAK LEAF or TEA LEAF Quilt Blocks c.1880-1900. A RARE pattern. These blocks are 10.5 inches square as in Pix#1. Or 15.5 inches on point as in pix#4. They have a BLACK and WHITE MOURNING floral print on two blocks(see close-up in pix#5) and BLACK and WHITE CHECK print on the other two as in pix#6. Also there are assorted cotton SHIRTING fabrics which give the block a"controlled-scrappy" look. See pix#8. They are precisely stitched by HAND by an expert with tiny, even stitches as seen in the last pix. The stem is hand-appliqued with tiny stitches also. FINE set of 5 FIVE rare XL crossed LAUREL BRANCHES quilt BLOCKS antique ca1860s

His is a splendid lot of four large Laurel Branches quilt blocks in beautiful solid Turkey Red and a couple slightly different over-dyed green fabrics. The hand-applique is all completed and there is a fifth block as well that was only basted but the applique stitching not begun. I estimate these rare pieces to around the 1850's or 1860's. Size These quilt blocks each measure about 18 inches square. The stems are just a narrow. Scant 3/8-inches wide. Construction Excellent hand-applique. Condition The completed blocks do not lie completely flat. All have traces of water stains plus flecks and blotches of brown staining to the ivory ground throughout. Antique Vintage 4 Large Primitive OCEAN WAVES Quilt Blocks c.1880-90 POST-CIVIL WAR ERA or earlier. Size: The 4 quilt blocks are approx. 10.5 inches wide by 17 inches long. They will make a 27 inch unit when pieced as shown in pix#10 with yard-stick. This pattern is beautifully sewn by treadle machine. Color: The blocks are assorted INDIGO BLUE prints. MOURNING prints, DOUBLE PINKS, CADET BLUES, Claret REDS, and Shirtings, etc. See an explanation of these fabrics in the 1860 section of Eileen Jahnke Trestain's book"DATING FABRICS A Color Guide 1800-1900" There may be 1 or 2 small spots. These are the LAST ONES. Antique Vintage Lot of 5 Primitive HISTORIC OAK LEAF or TEA LEAF Quilt Blocks c.1880-1900. A RARE pattern. These blocks are 10.5 inches square as in Pix#5. Or 15.5 inches on point as in pix#3. They feature different BLACK and WHITE MOURNING prints(see close-ups) Also there are assorted cotton SHIRTING fabrics which give the block a"controlled-scrappy" look. They are precisely stitched by HAND by an expert with tiny. Even stitches as seen in the last pix. The stem is hand-appliqued with tiny stitches also. However, pix#8 shows one quilt block has a row of patches that need to be turned(a humility block? An easy fix. The condition is excellent. Strong and sturdy. Antique Vintage LOT of 2 Double TULIP QUILT BLOCKS c1930-1955. These adorable quilt blocks are approx. 9.5 inches square as in pix#1 and 13.5 inches on point as in pix#4. Typical 1930's-50's colors of a WHITE background with BLUE and PINK ROSES with Leaves on one block and BLUE stylized flowers with a White background on the other block. This is a wonderful lot of 29 all 8 inch square blocks; There are many that are signed and dated-a few from 1854 and many from 1855. Every one is signed but not all are dated. One or two of them is signed in pencil but was not finished with the black thread. Very nice condition considering their age! As shown they are yellowed from age-some have some staining but the fabric is totally intact free from any odors-rips or tears that I could see; They all have a different pattern of fabric as well. The colors are nice ad vibrant considering the age of these pieces! Please do not expect them to arrive like new and gorgeous-they are old-they show age-but they are treasures from the past! Up for auction are 5 different old quilt blocks in excellent condition. One is a type of Dresden Plate. One is a Fan block. One is a old Nine Patch that was newly made into a Doll’s Pillow. 5 Antique, Vintage Quilt Blocks Paper Pieced Star,Indigo Blues, Reds,1880's?
5 large star blocks. Paper pieced with some paper backing still attached but the paper is in fragile condition. I would date these blocks to the 1880's to the early 1900's. The blocks measure 19 1/2 inches to 20 1/2 inches from tip to tip. The fabric is all cotton and the colors are bright and not faded. There is damage on two of the blocks and this is pictured in the last two photos. The damage could be easily repaired with a small scrap of vintage fabric. There are large basting stitches on some and they are all hand stitched. These were purchased at a local estate auction along with many other old quilt blocks and pieces. Half-square triangles sewn into 4-patches; perhaps the beginning of a Broken Dishes quilt. 2 blocks. Miscellaneous pattern and size Most of the blocks measure about 5" Give or take a bit. Not all sizes are consistent. Charming use of every scrap of fabric available Beautiful indigo. Madder brown. shirtings, calicos. stripes, plaids, solids. some a little heavier weight and some almost sheer. This is an amazing collection of antique textiles! Condition: Piecing was done by hand and not all points match. Nor are block sizes consistent. Antique 1906~Fruits - Veggies~5 REDWORK Embroidered ~Penny Squares~Quilt Blocks
Redwork Penny Squares I acquired 60 penny squares plus one large square from a local estate. One penny square is dated 1906. They are hand-embroidered in turkey red on what appears to be unbleached muslin. Most are completed. A few are partially completed, and a few have not been stitched at all. 24 Antique Quilt Blocks Dresden Fans Hand Pieced 8.5" Nice Condition
These came from the estate of a 95 year old lady. And it was unclear whether she or her mother pieced them. They all have the same pink center and measure 8.5" from tip to top edge. They were carefully packed away, only a couple of spots, no holes. The hand stitching is loose on a couple. Very pretty old fabrics, none felt like feedsack to me. US sales only. ANTIQUE CRAZY QUILT BLOCKS-HAND STITCHED-Ca.1880'S-5 SQUARES-GORGEOUS-ESTATE-NR
Up for auction tonight and purchased from a lovely old estate auction is this long stitched together piece. Which measures 55" long by 10 1/2" wide. This was the beginning of a Crazy Quilt, which was never finished. There are 5 Squares that were hand stitched together. Each one measures 10 1/2" by 10 1/2" The fabrics have been dated to the late 1880's, and the Fancy Stitches are all done with Persian silk Floss from the time period. There are 2 stains, which are noticeable from the back only. Not real bad, but they are there. No broken stitches on any of the blocks. Fabrics, range from Velvet, Brocade, Ombre, Silk, tafetta, and many others. They are bright and shiny when the light hits them. Pretty clean for being stored for so long. They just have a dusty smell, but nothing bad or detracting. Five(5) gorgeous antique velvet crazy quilt bocks- approx. 16" square Handstitched Beautiful colors and meticulous. Elegant stitches- one of the squares is half-stitched and awaits your finishing touches. These squares can be incorporated into a crazy quilt or made into pillow or bench covers. They are clean. Odor-free and in excellent condition- the velvet still has a nice, plush nap. There are a few pieces of tapestry/brocade fabric, but nearly all the pieces are velvet. Antique Vintage Lot of 3 DRESDEN PLATE Quilt PANELS with a total of 15 quilt blocks. Very Retro Cottage Chic. c.1945-65. Size: Each PANEL is approx. 78 inches long by 14.5 inches wide. Each Plate is 12 inches across. The outer Plate rings have 19 petals and consisting completely of dress and apron cotton fabrics of the day. Including a DUTCH-BOY novelty print in blue and a COWBOY print. Other vibrant colors are PINK, AQUA, ORCHID, BLUE, RED, etc. The center is solid YELLOW. Each Dresden Plate quilt block is separated by a HAND-SEWN white sashing strip that has a solid PINK setting square. lot of 5 vintage antique dresden plate quilt blocks w quilt block center
These are a set of 5 nice dresden blocks. The lady I bought them from said her mother had sewn a smaller quilt block to the back of the dresdens and that is what makes the four piece center see pic 4. You can leave them as they are or remove the backing block(and have 10 blocks) None of the muslin shows to the front side. It looks like the backing block is more of a rounded snubby petal dresden type block. Anyway they were destined to be pillows and the owner never got around to it and I just can't sew. But the blocks are really pretty. 18" from tip to tip, 23 petals per plate and the centers are made of 8 pieces. All 1930's- 40's cotton fabrics and all hand stitched, The petals of the dresden plates have all been pressed and sewn under by hand so there arent any fraying edges. They all measure about 5" x 5" There is some age age spotting. One block also has a lentil size nick in the edge of it and a red line going across one triangle as shown in the photos. Size: This VERY EARLY piece of a Top is approx. 30.5 inches by 15.5 inches as shown in pix#1& 3. It is ALL HAND-Pieced with teeny. Tiny stitches in a 1/8" seam as shown in the last 2 pix. The cotton fabrics on the LONE STAR are a SOLID color GREEN, a RARE"EYELASH" figure on White, and a PINK"seashell" print. The other attached block is a TURKEY RED 8-pointed STAR that was appliqued on with the tiniest of stitches, as shown pix#9. The background fabric is a solid good quality off-white fabric. Post CIVIL WAR ERA Size: This quilt block is approx. 8.5 inches square and 13 inches on point as shown in pix#5. There are many different ways to place and showcase these quilt blocks. They are HAND-PIECED with tiny 1/4 inch seams and even stitches. The fabrics are 2 different DOUBLE PINK or CINNAMON PINK prints and they are paired with a PURPLE print cotton fabric that has a tiny red and a tiny white figure. This pattern is referenced in Brachman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns and called many names. Such as Old Maids Puzzle, Double X, Fox and Geese, etc. Perfect for PRIMITIVE decor. 2077 Here are 5 INCREDIBLE quilt blocks. Unused, from the 1st quarter of the 19th century, if not earlier. These are hand English pieced, with seams pressed open(see last photo) The prints are lovely-indigo with white figures, blocks printed florals in 3 colors, a very detailed floral, and a light tan with what looks like(but can't possibly be) chili peppers. The blocks are 9 1/4 inches square and in excellent crisp condition, colors bright and fabulous.
