Antique Hand Made Red White Quilt 64x82" 1920's As Is
I have for auction a wonderful old quilt from the early 1900'3. It displays an interesting pattern all done in bright red on white; stitching on this quilt is superb; measures approx. 82x64" it is very worn but still lovely. Came to me along with the old red camp blanket I have presently on Ebay. Red must have been a favorite color in that household. It would have taken months to accomplish all of the hand stitching on this quilt; for its age it is still in reasonable condition although it is very worn down to the batting; nevertheless an interesting old piece of the conniseur of quilts or the collector. S&H is at the expense of the buyer. My preferred payment is via Paypal however should you wish to use alternative payments then please ask. I try very hard to describe my vintage items. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO FADING ON THE QUILT ~ IN SOME OF PICS IT LOOKS LIKE A LITTLE BIT OF FADING BUT IT'S IN MY DIGITAL. A white-out. GUARANTEED. ALSO. WHAT YOU SEE PEEKING OUT ALONG SIDE OF QUILT IS FRINGE ON A RUG THAT WAS UNDERNEATH THE QUILT. Fab T-Square(T is for temperance ~ women didn't have a voice in the 1880's but could sure speak out in their handwork) antique quilt, 68" square(perfect for hanging or for a twin bed or back of a chair, etc. from Spartanburg County, S.C. all the bells and whistles of a Southern textile village"Sunday best" quilt right down to the stitching, which is in the Southern traditional"ocean waves. In favored red and white calicos, all by hand, 2 interesting little cutout appliques in the sashing. Binding is in plaid fabric(Alamance Plaid? and there are several little"nips" ... moreor"bites" in the binding, not really noticeable unless you're looking for them- in one of the pics you'll see one I'm holding. Quilt is all cotton, all by hand. Backing is a tiny black or deep navy and white check, it's hard to tell which; and there is a very small fragile place not far off center in back that has"rubbed" away, showing us the wonderful cotton from the fields that was used for batting. On front I found 2 tannish small stains(see pics) ~ backing has several tannish stains which I couldn't pick up on the digital ~ all of the above I'm 99% sure could be removed with a good soaking in the proper product or, if you choose not to, hardly noticeable because of the graphic nature of the quilt. And that, my friends, tells what I know of the story of this so-graphic and beautiful piece of Southern folk art. Each design is hand appliqued. Using a tiny blind stitch, onto a 15" block. This is a summer quilt with no batting and minimal quilting. The quilting is done only around the outer edge of each block. Miss the old version of this page? everything on one long page. hpwae. Orgeous version of the President's Wreath block? Check! Lush quilting in fine outlines. Triple rods and delicate orange peel? Check! Gutsy oversized sawtooth border for plenty of drama? Check! Wonderfully graphic pieced sashing setting? Check! Amazing original condition with Turkey Red and overdyed green so vibrant and pristine it's probably never been washed? Check! No matter how long your list. This stunning circa 1860's President's Wreath quilt really does tick all the boxes. In terms of workmanship, good looks and deep appeal it wants for nothing. As for condition. The only real asterisk is that something stained it(apparently while stored and neatly folded in quarters) in four places along the binding and adjacent borders. This is only a minor distraction, ... moremost visible on the reverse and would probably lift if you preferred to professionally launder it. I chose to leave it exactly as found because the original condition of that subtly patterned green is such a rare treat, I felt it outweighed perfectly white bindings! The quilt was found in an Atlanta estate without further provenance. Size The quilt measures about 76 x 80 inches. The grand blocks are about 20 inches square and the vines are 1/2 inch wide or less with the little yellow reverse appliqué centers 1/2 to 3/4 inch across. The sashing is about 3 inches wide and those big half-square triangles along top and bottom are about 7 inches square. Quilting The hand-quilting reaches really fabulous stitch counts. But varies quite a bit as if a novice quiltmaker were being allowed to contribute. I count 5-10 little stitches to the inch. Counting on the top side of the quilt only. The appliqué motifs are outlined and inset-outlined and then the entire background of each block is prettily covered with a dainty orange-peel treatment. Vtg Handmade Jointed Teddy Bear from a Red & Yellow Antique Quilt, One of a Kind
This wonderful bear is made from a VERY old quilt. I'm told the quilt is likely from the mid-1800's. Based on the colors used and the wear to the quilt. The bear, however, was made and sold in the mid-1980's at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. It was sold by a well-known dealer. Unfortunately, I have a bad memory and can't remember who that was. Yes, I'm embarrassed! The dealer who sold it to me knew so much about all the important dealers I was a bit dazed! Still, you may know more than I do and if you want to offer information I would be happy to share it. So. Let's rely on the photos for the best description of the bear- He is well made with jointed arms and legs but the quilt was clearly worn out and so found its best purpose as a teddy where it can still be loved. He has nice, shaped, button eyes and ... morean embroidered nose and mouth on the well-placed muzzle. His arms and legs move freely and he sits very well. His ears are nicely shaped and alert. The most worn parts of the quilt are used in the least conspicuous parts of the bear so he looks great from the front and prefers to keep his back to the back of the chair, sofa or wall. He stands 17" tall at the ears(with assistance) He would look especially nice wearing a bow around his neck but I wanted him to appear here au natur el and let you choose to dress him as you wish! VINTAGE/ANTIQUE RED WHITE & BLUE PATCHWORK QUILT- 62"x80" - HANDMADE in MISSOURI
This is an auction for a VINTAGE/ANTIQUE RED WHITE& BLUE PATCHWORK QUILT- 62"x80" HANDMADE in MISSOURI. The majority of the 3 1/2" finished blocks are made of vintage cotton fabrics mainly red. White, blue in color- but there are a few blocks of greens, yellows. browns also in the quilt. The backing& edging are done in white cotton and the filling appears to be a white flannel(lightweight) The quilt is EXTREMELY OLD. Although I do not know the exact date of when it was made. It was my grandmother-in-law's quilt and she was born in 1901. My husband remembers her having this quilt& just knows that it something that she made. And obviously lovingly used. She lived her entire life in the"Lead Belt" area of the state of Missouri, south of St. Louis. This quilt is completely hand quilted. But finished in ... morea machine stitched binding. The quilt is NOT IN PERFECT CONDITION. There are some stains. Some tears& rips, some missing binding on the edges. The back side is not in as good of condition as the front side. As some of the back fabric is well- worn and has deteriorated. I'm guessing that is why there appears to be an 8 1/2" binding( on one end of the quilt- maybe to reinforce the back side where the fabric was damaged. But why she would also put it across the front side I don't understand. Maybe it was meant to designate the head of the bed where the pillows were to lie on top. I'm not sure- the quilt blocks underneath that strip do not appear to be damaged. A mystery that will never be solved, as Grandma died years ago, before I had the quilt and could ask questions from her. There are no musty smells and it has always been in pet-free. Judging by the Turkey Red and shirting fabrics used. I would estimate the top to have been made between 1880 and 1900. The top measures approximtely 74" X 75" There are a few small popped seams(top is hand-pieced) and some stains probably caused by moisture. Most of the stains are lighter- the stain at the center of the top is darker and about 3 1/2" in diameter. I have seen no fabric deterioration. This top would make a nice addition to your collection. ANTIQUE OCEAN WAVES QUILT VINTAGE PRIMITIVE SHIRTINGS HAND QUILTED TURKEY RED
This is a beautiful antique. Primitive quilt. I believe it is a variation of the Ocean Waves pattern. If you know another name for it, please feel free to comment. The size is 72x76. It is pictured on a queen sized bed. It has been hand pieced and hand quilted, in a truly"make-do" fashion. Many of the triangles are, themselves, pieced. It is quilted with brown thread in single parallel lines, going the length(76" of the quilt. The quilting is utilitarian with long, widely spaced stitches, as this quilt is quite thick and heavy. It wouldn't surprise me if the"batting" is an even older worn out quilt. The fabrics are cotton. There are homespuns, shirtings and a couple of flannels. The backing is homespun. The binding was done by bringing the backing to the front and stitching it to the top. I will describe the condition ... moreas well as I can. There is some age fading of a couple of the red fabrics. There is a small paint smear on one square. There are a few repairs along some seams. There are a couple small holes in the border. It needs to be washed. These condition problems are minor. In my opinion, and do not distract from the overall impact and displayability of this quilt. The quilt and fabrics are still sturdy, and the colors are strong and vibrant. Please note. As stated above, this quilt is quite heavy. It weights 7 lbs. without box and packing) Also it is not from a non-smoking home, though I don't notice any odors.

This wonderful quilt looks like a garden in bloom! It is about 86" x 75" Back is the same unbleached muslin as the front background, nice and crisp. There are two spots that are barely noticeable, one is an ink mark toward the bottom of the quilt, the other is a water mark toward the top, there is also a water mark on the back, and there is a shade of soiling on the edge, I didn't wash, will leave to new owner if they think it is needed. It is machine quilted in a less than 1" diagonal square design, thin cotton batting, all cotton fabrics of course, no edge wear, no holes. An exceptional and stunning find! Historic quilt, and measure a large 80 x 80 inches, with a beautiful green swag border, and is meticulously hand-stitched throughout in both a cross hatch and mirroring wreath and leaf pattern(in the ditch) Slightly hard to see the truly wonderful hand-quilting in my photos. And I have tried to over exposure the lighting just a bit in some of the last few photos. so you can see the quilt's EXCELLENT and tight hand-stitching. And bright white cotton for the background and deep borders. The quilt measures 94" x 82" has a very thin cotton batting with cotton seed fragments, and a bright white back, which was brought around to the front and hand stitched to form the binding. HAND QUILTED with outline quilting inside each piece. Leaves and floral quilting on the background, and floral and shell quilting on the borders@ 8 stitches per inch. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED. We found a couple light storage spots but no rips, tears or odors. Unfortunately, the acidic dyes used in those days have eaten away the flowers on the Turkey Red with just the yellow leaves remaining, and on the blue fabric leaving small holes, but this quilt is still very sturdy and has many years of use left. It measures 66" X 76" and is in excellent condition. With some background age spotting(see photos) and no wear. The quilting is SUPERB. With quilting around and within the applique and in grid designs in the background, all at an even 10-12 stitches to the inch. The back is white. The hand stitched binding is tan, and the batting is thin. The WONDERFUL DESIGN. VIBRANT RED, and GREAT QUILTING make this late nineteenth century beauty stand out!

This antique quilt is pictured on a double(full-sized) bed. To give an idea of size. Measures approximately 74" x 75" Generally good condition, bright fabric, with all major flaws shown in close up, the most noticeable being the spots on the underside(they also appear on the red side, but do not detract in a major way there) Some white areas especially along edges have light grayish areas which I do not believe are dirt(see sixth photo) There is wear to the point of separation all along the binding of the piece. T he heart with homely tasks content. Gorgeous Turkey Red antique quilt made around the Turn of the Century. The quilt is signed PIG ~ a piece of fabric sewn in one of the corners written in old fountain ink. This pattern is a variation of a pattern known as Young Man's Fancy. This quilter added pieces by piecing another small Nine Patch in the center of each block instead of using one square only. It looks fantastic! Each 16" block is made up of ... more87 pieces ~ all pieced completely by hand. There are several other names for this pattern depending upon which reference book you use: Goose in the Pond. Unique Nine Patch, Patchwork Fantasy, Geometric Garden, Scrap Bag, Mrs. Wolf's Red Beauty, Bachelor's Puzzle, Missouri Puzzle. The quilt measures 76" x 74" is in very good condition. The turkey red is as vibrant as the day the quilt was made(pieced to a very light beige backing) There is one dirt mark& 2 old water stains with a small wear spot in the border(see last 2 pictures) What I believe happened causing that wear spot was that there was probably a little stain there& someone tried treating the wrong way& wore through the fabric. Then letting that area dry on it's own causing the water marks. I will be glad to offer a remedy for this to the buyer. The quilting is extremely nice! Very tiny& even stitches(10 spi) were used to make a small 1/2" grid design in the rectangular white blocks& double diagonal lines through the patterned blocks. Hello. I am selling my own family's multi-generational quilts. All my quilts were made by my Grandmother Florence Snyder Cocker(1893-1992) Ridgewood. NJ and/or Great Grandmother Sarah Ann Snyder Ackerman(1867-1958) Fairlawn, NJ. Both women are descendants of the David Ackerman Society and were members of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It is expertly hand embroidered with redwork on a crisp white background. There are poppies. Water lily, flower baskets, a fleur de lis, scrolls, and more embroidered in the center. The edge is red and white and features a checkerboard pattern in the corners. Masterfully hand quilted at 11-12 stitches per inch. There is 1" single rods. Braiding, and flowers quilted throughout. Vintage Antique Heavy Handmade Quilt Red & White Cotton & Daisy Back
This is a beautiful handmade quilt in red and white cotton. The pieces are machine stitched and yarn has been pulled through to tie. The back is a very pretty raised daisy design also in cotton. There are no rips or worn spots. Material is in great condition. I tried to take a photo of every spot I could find, some are very small and didn't show up too well. This quilt has not been laundered so the spots may come out. Also, the photo shows a bright red, it is a bright red bud not as florescent as the photo, the white is very white. ANTIQUE VINTAGE 9 PATCH QUILT Red checked Checkerboard checkered
This charming 9 patch quilt is very old! The pictures don't really do it justice. It features lots of early cotton prints on the front, the back is muslin. It is about 74 x 85" very thin cotton batting, hand pieced and hand quilted at about 8 stitches per inch, only 2 blocks have deteriorated fabric, easy to patch, if desired. It is in super nice condition overall, no holes or wear, there is a picture of one block that has some red dirt on it, I didn't try to clean since it was not distracting. Age might be between c. 1875 to 1930's There are 12 squares each measure about 17 1/4" x 16 1/4" The measuraments included the ruffle are about 95" x 87" The back side is one piece fabric bright pastel green color This quilt has no batting. it is in wonderful condition please see all the photos there are few tiny spots. But this one has to be the most unusual one. This antique hand sewn top is from Indiana. Set in a very rare and hard to find sampler setting. Most unusual large central feather star surrounded by a different block patterns. Top is completely hand sewn with tiny stitches as shown. Extremely neat and tiny stitches. Central Red fabric framing the feather star is deep rich turkey red as shown in close up. The wonderful early fabrics can be dated out of Eileen Jahnke Trestain's book on antique fabrics. Blocks are very unusual as they are 16 inch blocks. So seamstress would of had to draft to this size. Central star is 26 1/2 x 27. 12 ~16 inch blocks. Quilt top is is 71 x 73 inches. Condition is crisp. Unused, unwashed. Very nice with typical light age freckling and light toning along edges. Colors are very strong and bright. Slight fade to the old over dye green.
