It is plumped with new premium fiberfil and the back is from the backing of this same crazy quilt. The backing is a deep wine colored fabric. I believe taffeta, but maybe a heavier silk.just not sure. What makes this fabric so interesting is that it has white raised intertwining circles which appear to be painted or stenciled. This is one of the most amazing examples of late 1800's Crazy Quilt work pieces I have ever seen. A quilt top- no backing. Silk& Velvet patches- all attached with hand feather work. There is so much detail of embroidery which includes people. Animals, flowers, veg's. Fruit, fans etc. A couple hand painted. I have tried to show many in the pics. Every time I look at it I see a different theme to the little blocks- Breath Taking! This is truly a one of a kind. The condition is incredible for the age- there is some splitting to some of the silk patches- not many- I w ill say it is 90% or better condition. Satin brocades, silk, and damask. Each piece is edged with feather stitch embroidery using a variety of colors. Pink. white, blue, yellow, coral, orange, greens, purples and magenta. Two dozen or less pieces are frayed. Fraying or cut out from the quilt top. Please see photographs. Crazy quilt top is bordered with pink and grey fan design brocade satin. The border is feather stitch embroidered on both sides of the border with mitered corners. VINTAGE Textile patchwork Silk& Satin Quilt Measures approx.73” x 85” Each square started as 12" but is now 11 1/2" Some top hand embroidery(feather stitch) but not as much as a true crazy quilt.Wonderful vivid colors. This came straight from an estate sale so I have not washed or ironed this piece especially since it is mostly made of silks& satin. Many vintage pieces of satin. And other fancy silks that were so popular in the late Victorian era have been treasured and preserved. Many of the silk fabrics used in quilts are weighted with mineral salts and other substances. This means the fabrics have been coated with, or have actually absorbed, these substances to give them more weight and a stiffer texture. Unfortunately, weighting substances also speed up the fabric's deterioration. Silk is extremely susceptible to ... morelight damage. Which can be seen in brittleness, splits, and the eventual powdering of the yarns. Sometimes, even though a piece of silk may appear in perfect condition, it can be extremely fragile. Dust and dirt can do a great deal of harm to silk quilts, as can wet cleaning and dry cleaning. Offering this large lot of antique hand-sewn quilt top pieces and 35 vintage/antique machine sewn crazy quilt-top blocks. The first image is of an antique. Hand-sewn, finished piece with 2 floral blocks. I don't know the pattern. This piece measures 14" wide by 92" long. It is in excellent condition. Next is another antique hand-sewn piece(shown in the image with a single block in the same pattern) The single block measures 14" square and the sewn piece measures 14" wide by 92" long. There is one noticeable area of tiny specks/stains in one of the pink and white blocks. See close-up image insert. Also. The large center white squares have very light and much tinier widely scattered specks. These are barely there and difficult to see. Otherwise. There is no damage. An antique Victorian era crazy quilt top fragment(could have been a lap blanket) With very fine fabric pieces including moire satin, silk and velvet in vivid colors, with three embroidered flowers. Various stitching techniques were used in many thread colors, and one piece is trimmed in french knots. The fragment is in good condition with wear commensurate with age, including some areas of fading, fraying, some loose and torn stitching, and small stains and discolorations. This was mounted to paperboard backing with double sided tape, and when removed, left residual adhesive and large shreds of paper still attached to the back edges. I have not removed the paper so as not to compromise the fabric underneath, which is frail. Please review the images above and below to thoroughly assess condition. This is a beautiful quilt top made from a lot of shirting fabric& stitched to a foundation. It has red& off white feather stitching beautifully done. It is unusual since you don't usually see a crazy quilt done with this type of shirting fabric. Great shabby chic look. I see that one particular fabric(white with heavy black stripes) does show a lot of age staining(I tried to point out in photos) and there is one square that does have a tear(see photo with coins) but I think it can easily be repaired. The top appears strong otherwise and the colors are still bright. The pink border gives a femine touch to a beautiful pastel color palette. Perfect for a little girls room. Up for auction is a very old crazy quilt/ comforter made from feed sack fabrics. The quilt was stitched by hand and measures 78 x 66. Some of the pieces are loose but all are in tact. One of the front corners has a darker spot. The back is made of feed sacks as well pieced together and was added to the original quilt probably due to wear. The back has spots but is also all in tact. Over all condition is good for its age. I have shown pictures of spots and loose pieces. It looks like it was made in memorandum for a soldier who was in the navy. He must have died during war. The center shows an anchor with a cross with a bible that says"forever" on it. The initials"LH" are off to the side. The fabrics are velours. Satins, damask patterns, acid etched, along with some other kinds. I don't think that there are any cottons included in the top. I believe the backing is made of cotton feed sacks. One square says"American cotton" on its back. This quilt top is in excellent condition for its age. I see no holes, stains or worn spots. Please keep in mind that this is an unfinished top. There is no batting ... moreor finished edges on it. It is hanging on my clothes line horizontally. Vintage Crazy Quilt Silks and Rayons 68" x 78" UNFINISHED Quilt Top
Striking crazy quilt is pieced. But not finished. There is no stuffing or inner fabric other than the original pieced backing of muslin. It has some of the original basting stitches. There are very few pieces that have damage. Made mostly of silks and rayon fabrics. The backing is cotton muslin. There are some stains. I have lightly cleaned with a home dry cleaning product, mostly to get the dust out of it. No attempt at proper cleaning or any repairs. I will leave that up to the buyer. This estate find is a very large(80" x 80" patchwork crazy quilt top. With a muslin lining. Most pieces sewn by old sewing machine. The pieces are silk and probably some man-made silky-type fabrics of dresses women wore on Sundays in the 20s and 30s. Note that some are the same patterns in different color combination. So, I wonder if the maker was a seamstress or begged the swatches off a seamstress. The top is well-sewn with no dry-rotting that I can see. The thin muslin backing is peculiar with some hand-sewn repairs(was this all she had available? Of course, she intended to put a nice finishing backing to it. No stains, mildew or offensive oders. Clean. I think it sat in a sealed trunk in a dry attic for all of these years. This would be of fascinating to someone interested in fabrics of the past. Amy Smith A little bit of information about the little historical town where I purchased this lovely quilt top: It came from Shipshewana. Indiana, a very small town with a population of 536 people, most Mennonite& Amish. The town was named after Chief Shipshewana of the Potawatomi tribe of Native Americans. Shipshewana was where the"Trail of Death" began ~ The US government forced march nearly 1,000 Potawatomi men, women, and children from Shipshewana to the Osage River in Kansas. Many different silk& velvet scraps in just about every color& print you can think of. in all different"crazy" shapes. There are plaids& hand painted silks, embroidered silks, solid velvets in greens& blues, reds& burgundies, warm earth tones, golds, purples& more. An American flag was hand pieced in one block while a four leaf clover was made in another. All of the stripes in the flag were pieced; it is not a striped piece of fabric. You'll see hearts& some other shapes as well. The embroidery is fantastic ~ It's all done with different colored cotton threads using many different embroidery stitches. There are a few initials embroidered in different places, O, M or W. The entire top was pieced completely by hand, embroidered by hand, all pieced to 15" cotton blocks. You can even still see her basting stitches. Overall, this top is in very good condition. I counted 11 pieces, silks, that have worn through all these past years. Up for you consideration is this Crazy Quilt Block that measures 27 1/2" X 18" The top of this piece is made of felt and what I believe to be pennants(some of the lettering is lifting up) The majority of them have a nude woman and say September Morn with one of them having a what I think is a date of 1913. It is approximately 78" by 80" We have owned it for about 15 years and are ready to pass it on to someone else to enjoy and display or use as they wish. I have pictured a"rough" spot on the backing of the quilt( made from old sugar/grain sacks where the fabric in one of the sacks was compromised. I have also pictured two places on the border where the stitching has come loose.the border fabric is all there and it just needs to be tacked back in place. Maybe some feed sacks included, used the star pattern to built 4 large blocks with 8-point stars on each corner, all of them different, then they constructed a huge 8-point star from the center of the design out, fully made in the crazy pattern style, as you'll see below. You are bidding on a vintage quilt top that appears to have been done in the 1930's. Using feedsack and cotton fabric. The back is done in the white muslin seed/feedsacks with printing still visible. Sixteen blocks make up this quilt top that are mostly hand stitched together. Four blocks have some machine stitching. The quilt top measures 67" x 69" This is a crazy quilt pattern using a combination of feedsack and 1930's cotton fabric. LARGE Antique Abstract / Crazy Patchwork Quilt TOP - Feed Sack Fabrics 74 X 97"
This antique quilt top has a nice colorful group of feed sack and vintage fabrics. Some of the blocks were made in crazy quilt style with several small pieces sewn on a cotton fabric backing. The plain yellow pieces are home dyed muslin Hersey sacks. There are a few blocks with a small tea color spot but since it is a top it would be easy to replace them. It is unwashed but clean and it is 74 by 97 inches.

Antique Crazy Quilt Top 1890s TENN Folk Art Family Tree Geneology Names Velvet
First. You should know I am not an expert on quilts. So I'll give the best description I can, along with good photos. I want to make sure you ebayers out there get accurate info from me, but if there is a detail I leave out, feel free to ask! Offered for auction is a beautiful antique crazy quilt top. It was found in Nashville. Tennessee. This crazy quilt top features the names and birth dates of at least 15 people who are apparently all related. By making this quilt top, it seems the family wanted to preserve part of their family tree and history. Like most crazy quilts. It is pieced together from different fabrics, but features velvet and silk. The basic pattern is a large star; most of the black diamonds connecting the stars have been embroidered with the name and birth year of someone in the family. The family names included are RUCKER, ... moreSTILLMAN and POWERS. Looks like the entire piece was made by hand. My approximate date for the quilt is just a guess, but it's based on the expert input of a friend who knows a lot about antique textiles, and the latest birth date on the quilt, which seems to be 18-ninety-something(Robert Rucker) They may have been a prosperous family, as there seems to be a lot of embroidered silk, printed silk and velvet in this piece. Measures APPROXIMATELY 72" x 60" For scale reference. I photographed it lying on top of a queen sized sheet. As you can see from the photo, the piece isn't a perfect rectangle. Some spots in the quilt have raveled or are nearly entirely gone. Some of the embroidery is gone. There are large, loose basting stitches meant to hold the top together until it could be quilted to a backing, and some of these stitches are gone or loose. There are age spots, yellowing and staining of the cotton and muslin on the back. Most of the piece though, seems to be in reasonably good condition. SPLENDID FOLK ART stunner Cotton CRAZY crisp VIBRANT SCRAPBAG quilt TOP ca1890
Miss the old version of this page? everything on one long page. htcce. His masterful scrap quilt top is one of the most balanced. Striking, lively and visually pleasing I've come across. That rich jumble of irregular scraps initially reads as an uninterrupted field but upon closer inspection turns out to be coaxed from a deftly arranged composition of square blocks. In excellent, crisp, unwashed condition, this utterly unfaded piece looks to date to around the 1890's with some tidbits that look considerably earlier. Size This quilt top measures about 58 x 69 inches. The blocks are well disguised but seem to be around 8-9 inches square. The scale of the random jigsaw piecing is amazing. There are so many tiny tidbits pieced in; the tiniest one I find is a 1/8 x 1/4 inch triangle! Borders are 5 1/2 to 6 inches wide. Construction Finely ... morehand-pieced. Condition The quilt top is in excellent. Crisp, never-washed, and utterly unfaded condition. The border fabric is slightly frayed and fuzzed along the edges and corners, but could of course be trimmed down. The only staining issues I find are utterly tiny, all but one border spot are really well hidden within the business of the pieced pattern. ANTIQUE 1920-30's Geometric CRAZY Quilt TOP - Great Vintage Fabrics! 67 x 80"
This colorful antique geometric crazy quilt top was made with all types of vintage fabrics. It has feedsack prints. Satin, crepe and even a few pieces of wool. The little blocks were stitched by machine to a backing. There are 2 small blocks on one short end and 1 on the other short end that have damage. There is also one strip of fabric in the center that has a hole but everything else on the top is in very good condition. It is clean, odor free and 67 by 80 inches. I am now listing many quilts and quilt top from the Blue Ridge Mountains near my home in south western Virginia. I am always happy to combine shipping.

Very old topper. Primarily cotton, possibly some feedsack. This is hand pieced, no machine. All different quilt patterns stitched together. Truly CRAZY! Measures 75 x 60. Does need a lot of work. Thus low start price. One corner is missing and several. Long rips or tears scattered. Everything's fixable and I think this is too good for a cutter. But you can decide that. Please check our pics below for details: this is an old quilt top. All hand sewn, but unfinished and of a rather small size to be used by itself without adding more blocks. It measures 68" by 50" approximately; the bed used for the photos is a queen size, 80" by 60" The swatches used are mostly of cotton blend fabrics. The stitching is long and at some points a little careless. This item might be used as blocks. Rather than to try to finish a quilt top from it. Each block is made in a different pattern. Large Antique Crazy Quilt Top w Silk Sewing Circle Embroidery Edge & Initials
Hi. You are bidding on an antique sewing circle crazy quilt top. Everyone initialed a section of the quilt. The quilt top is large. Measuring 88 inches by 77 inches. It is not an exact rectangle, since there are sections of patchwork. The quiilt top fits over a king size bed top. The quilt is in good condition. There are a few tiny stains including an age spot/stain on the back and a rub on the front. Don't expect perfection. But the silk is in good shape and the other material has held up well. I really think this was put away and not used at all. All of the edges are embroidered. Many materials were used, but there is ample use of silk as well. I am not sure of the age of the quilt.
