ANTIQUE VINTAGE QUILT UNIQUE SOUTHERN PINE TREE RIDGE MOUNTAIN HILLS
This is a rare pattern to see in a finished quilt! I'm not really sure what the design name is. May be unique, I have never seen this one before, but reminds me of the mountains! It is in excellent condition, no spots, no stains, no holes and no signs of wear. Excellent hand quilting at about 9-10 stitches per inch, it has very thin batting, but quilt is not light weight. It is about 67" x 89" all cotton, white on the back, lovely green color with a coordinating print that features bright pink. Colorful Vintage Abstract Southern Storyteller Quilt What story does this tell? I have no idea. But it reminds me of a treasure map. This quilt maker was quite a storyteller. Very lightweight, the top is pieced of sateen fabric in very rich jewel tones, and the back is a soft, light pink flannel. The maker used brightly colored yarn to spin their story. Have a look, it's amazing! 91" x 73" Very nice. I found one very minor'fleabite' on the edge and a few places where the yarn is slightly loose. Both are quite minor. Antique Southern Star Quilt, Highly Unique
Antique North Carolina Thirteen Star Quilt. Possibly Civil War Reunion Quilt The age of this quilt can be seen by the aging on the white fabric of the stars. Which you can see in the close-up pictures. It's quite thin with no batting, indicating that it was meant for show. The somber colors with splashes of red, blue and green form the perfect backdrop for the crossed white stars. The hexagons are formed from a pretty wide variety of men's suit fabrics, wools, velvet and corduroy. It was purchased in the 1970s near Ashville. North Carolina, in the Smoky Mountains. 75" x 66" The white stars are appliqued with a red thread. The hexagons are outlined with red turkey track stitching. The quilt is backed with flannel which is wrapped to the front. It is not quilted. There's a smudge on one hexagon. Some*very* minor moth bites, ... moreand the aging of the white fabric. Vintage Southern String Quilt
This beauty is one of the best kinds of string quilts-each block composed of multiple thin strings in varying widths. Creating a quirky freshness. It has a great array of different fabrics. All cotton. 85" x 66" This quilt is in"good" condition with some minor seam splits on the front and several patches. The patches are made of two fabrics-one a green and white stripe and one a red/blue floral cheater fabric. You can see them in the pictures. I think they blend well but please do have a look at the picture of the full front of the quilt, plus I provided a couple close-ups. I also see one small tear on a black and white piece of fabric. The large array of strings in this quilt make for easy adjustments, should you wish to do so. The back has some fabric bleeding, but nothing that shows on the front. It measures 69" x 82" It features pretty Southern Bells that are hand appliqued with feedsack prints. They are each hand embroidered as well and their heels match the color of the dress! The sashing is purple and yellow. It is hand quilted at 7 stitches per inch. There is 1.5" grid work throughout the quilting. Freshly hand laundered. Antique Arkansas Southern Farm Quilt. Feedsack back, Quilt Inside, Denim& Khaki This quilt was found in central Arkansas. Clearly the product of a working family. The patchwork on the front is a combination of different types of men's pants-denim, khaki, suit pants. You can see pockets on a couple of the patches. The back is pieced of large panels of what seem to me like heavy cotton or canvas feedsack. You can see a stamp one that says Semmes. Champion, 9 Ft. 8oz. Duck, Hook Eye. There are a couple of numbers marked on the back also. It's 76 x 68 inches. The back is partially wrapped to the front. And the front is partially wrapped to the back. On the inside is an old quilt-you can see it through a tear in one of the patches. There are also a few other worn areas on the front that show the quilt inside-none of them go through ... moreto the back. Antique Vintage Cotton Two Color Quilt Chedder Mill Wheel Southern. Description Wonderful show quilt. Mill wheel pattern similar to hearts and gizzards pattern. Very thin bat. It was found on the Florida Georgia border. Machine sewn. Hand quilted. There are circles quilted on all four borders and double straight lines across the rest. Yellow rosebud calico on the back. I found this and it felt not quite"never washed" but very close to it. So I would say washed once, but now washed twice. Understanding that not everyone enjoys the fragrance of Deep South storage as much as Cynthia Fagen Mercantile does. we soaked it in tepid water and a bit of scented soap and air dried. Amazingly well preserved with the off white part having a few specks of"foxing" and a couple of small marks that are hard to see. I did not work on the ... moremarks so to preserve the crispness. The unusual design is one that I've never seen before: In each block are Seven 6-pointed stars surrounded by a"wheel" of diamond shaped pieces. HAND-PIECED.HAND-STITCHED.HAND-QUILTED! The quilting design as seen on the backside has a"swirl" pattern! Measures approx. 70" x 79" Approx. 1493 pieces in all. c1850 SOUTHERN INDIANA APPLIQUE RED / WHITE QUILT SPECTACULAR FINELY HAND STITCH
This quilt is a treasure. It is so finely and tightly stitched and the condition is overall very good especially considering it's approximate age of about 160 years. The Roseberry family had this quilt examined some years ago by a quilt expert. There information is typed with a photo of the quilt and a Quilt Registry number of An 192. I can describe it no better than the examiner and so I will type was is in the photo: The Quilt 73" x 90" 6'1" x 7'6" overall. Indiana Quilt Registry No. An 192. 16 1/4" large white squares alternated with 16 1/2" red on white squares. Kansas pattern feather wreath plus clam shell on all white squares. Double parallel lines on red-on-white areas. 12" border of red floral vine on white background Quilt Registry examiner's notes: The work manship and condition ... moreare excellent. 5? and 3/4" 34" 33 and 3/4" across top. Feather wreath. Clam shell. Square grid. Dbl parallel lines Ca. 1850. Hand stitched binding. Red on White. The Quilt Maker Since this is a Roseberry family quilt. If it was made Ca. 1850 per the examiner's notes, it was probably made by Julia Ann(Waldsmith) Roseberry, who was born July 25, 1819 near Madeira, Ohio. She married Samuel Roseberry September 1, 1842 in Graham Township, Jefferson County, Indiana. She died October 29, 1892, and is buried at Pisgah Cemetery near Deputy, Indiana. I would add that the backside is white and does have some light soiling along the fold lines. I have not attempted to clean this. It has been folded and in a chest for many decades. It also has one tear about the size of a quarter on the backside. There are some rusty colored spots scattered here and there. Please look closely at pics. I added two more after the auction started. Circa 1955 Applique Southern Belle with Sunbonnet single-sized bed cotton bed coverlet. 54" wide. 86" long. My grandmother made this- note the embroidered outline of the applique pieces. The seven sunbonnet girl blocks are about 15.5" x 15.5" Excellent condition. The colors are still bright. Bit of dirt on purple block, but not a stain. It's probably been washed 3 or 4 times and then put away in a trunk. At the time I thought the alternate pink blocks decorated with teddy bears, ducklings, bunnies, ect. was rather babyish for me. Up for auction is a 5 piece collection of hand stitched Southern Ladies in Hats. The approximate measurements are below: I believe they might have been 12x12's at some point? When she started them. And then were cut down at some point. I do not know for sure since they were estate sale. All I know is that the woman's mother had hand made them. Purple hat =@ 11.25 x 11.75 Blue hat =@ 11.5 x 12 Yellow Hat =@ 12 x 11.5 Mixed Hat =@11.75 x 11.25 Red Hat =@ 11.5 x 11.75 I washed them in a soft soak of Oxi-Clean and the fabric whitened tremendously. Fantastic Southern Classic Red and White Bear Paw Quilt Vintage Antique Estate
Gorgeous turkey red and white vintage quilt shows the Southern take on handstitched linens and bedding for the home. This summertime. Lightweight quilt features the vibrant, high-contrast red and white colors in the beloved bear paw pattern that makes a bold and graphic bedcovering for warm Southern nights. 65 by 80 inches overall, with 20 patchwork blocks and a 3-inch border and turnback edging. Some hand piecing evident and all hand quilted at about 7 stitches per inch. Bright, clear colors. Antique primitive bar quilt, denim & wools Unique trim!! Southern. African/Amer?
Fantastic primitive antique bar quilt! This beautiful and very unique quilt was collected in the NC mountains many years ago. I just haven't been able to part with it until now! To me. It is very similar to some of the Gee's Bend quilts I have seen in it's improvisational approach and the color choices the quilter made. This artistic quilt was originally hand sewn and hand quilted of denim and wool work clothing with a heavy muslin backing. A little printed cotton, and dense fill that feels like cotton. The truly unique part of this quilt is the trim that is turned inside out and creates a lovely uneven geometric pattern. The creative and resourceful maker of this quilt repurposed the trim from a Servistan rug(or many rugs? to form the grid into which she sewed the old work clothing. The star and crescent motif and the red, purple ... moreand blues in the trim give the quilt a wonderful vibrancy. Very unusual and inventive! The top of this quilt has a couple of muslin"squares" with the rest being primarily denim and about 1/3 consisting of wool pieces. As is common for primitive quilts. The edges are turned over from the back unevenly, with more muslin and a little of the printed cotton on one side. The quilter did not edge the side opposite in muslin but left it denim. Multiple colors of thread were used for the quilting but they are subtle and the stitches are truly primitive and uneven. There are some incomplete machine sewn lines as well that were added later and could be removed if you wish. This beauty measures approximately 62" x 74" at the largest, with uneven measurements all around. The quilt colors are closest to the first photo but kind of in between the lightest and darkest photos. A wonderful example of creativity and resourcefulness. Early Antique Applique Quilt Handquilted Southern Primitive Beauty c1870-1890
This early quilt from the Deep South is a truly unique. Large-block applique quilt with a half-block top edge and striped interior borders. At 82" by 65" it's quilted in an all-over Baptist fan pattern at approximately 6 stitches to the inch, giving the hand-carded heavy batting great texture throughout the quilt. Confident but nimble appliqué hand stitching tacks the red and tan(dun) medallion designs onto a muslin. The original Turkey Red medallions may have been inspired by oak leaf or cock's comb designs. And are somewhat reminiscent of Princess Feather shapes in their flared tips. The central turkey red applique shapes encase single tan(dun) Oak leaf or Princess Feathers, which are then also placed outside of the medallion. The end result radiates out from the open center, creating a symmetrical design unlike any ... moreI have seen before. It is as if the quiltmaker, who will remain unknown to us, was inspired by the period's large cock's combs, oak leafs, and Princess Feathers and sat down to create a pattern herself with the visual inspiration in mind but out of sight. This quilt features all the wear and tear one can expect with an aged quilted textile that has been used and stored. Fortunately. The fabrics are generally in great shape, with no bleeds and little overall deterioration with a few holes and scattered staining as pictured, especially on the back. There is significant deterioration on the back of the quilt along the fold lines and near one corner. The binding is in place around the entire quilt, but is fraying and torn. This age related wear and damage adds to the interest and appeal of this truly unique early quilt from a Mississippi estate. Items are shipped within one business day of cleared payment. Early Antique Southern Chicken Foot Stitch Quilt BEAUTY
EARLY SOUTHERN ANTIQUE CHICKEN FOOT STITCHED QUILT This piece came out of an estate in Gaston County North Carolina a couple years ago and the majority of the items in the estate were from the 1880s to the early 1910s. As far as an exact date as to when it was made I cannot say for sure and all I know is what I have been told about the dating of the quilt and the style of stitching used to make it. There are numerous different pieces of material used to make it as the pics show and it's just a multi colored piece of art! The quilt is in very good shape for it's age. But it's definitely not mint unsed by any means! It has some wear to the outer edges and a couple of the mutli layered panels have a little damage as can be seen in one of the pics, but overall it's a very nice vintage piece. Vintage Southern Lilac/Purple Hand Pieced Double Wedding Ring quilt
This a double wedding ring quilt. It is from the estate of a couple that married in the 1940s. Traditionally. Wedding ring quilts were given to the couple at the time of their wedding and it is likely this quilt is from that wedding. This couple had no children so this lovely family heirloom is ready to have a place in your family and home. It is unique in that you often don't see a purple color. Particularly as the primary background color. The pieces to make the rings were made from feed sack material. It has some staining as seen in the pictures. Which would not be unusual for a quilt of this age. See the next to last picture. Also, look at the last picture, if you look at the left hand side and count up 3 rings, that may be staining in the area or that may just be the material. The back of the quilt is a plain, cotton backing. Please ... moresee the 5th picture. There is very little fraying of the pieces. I did take a picture of one piece that had loose threads/fraying. See 6th picture. It is photographed on a queen sized bed to give you an indication of size. I believe this to be meant for a full size bed. It measures approximately 69 inches across and 79 inches long. It is an intact. Stable quilt. I delicately washed it and line dried it on a double clothesline in the fresh air and sunshine. It is ready to be put on your bed. It is a relatively light weight quilt. It did come from a Benton. Arkansas estate. I do not know if the couple smoked, but it has been washed and it comes from my non-smoking home. This is a beautiful quilt and would be a wonderful addition to your antique quilt collection. Vtg Quilt Southern Belle Antique Women Girl Doll Craft Cutter Twin Feedsack Twin
You are bidding on this vintage antique handmade and hand quilted Southern Belle Quilt. I believe this is feed sack material because of its age. But you can zoom in and make that determination yourself. It is approximately 83" x 70" It is freshly laundered. The pictures are pretty much true to the colors for the girls in the quilt although the background isn't yellow. It's beige. The lighting was a problem. It is a very old quilt and has the old type batting inside. The top 6" is badly damaged. But I actually washed this quilt(because it was so dirty from storage) in the washer and put it into the dryer and it came out as you see it. So it didn't fall apart. Picture#1 doll has 2 marks on her background. Picture# 2 doll has one mark on her background. Picture#3 doll has some shredding of some of her dress but it ... moreisn't holes that go through the quilt. Only on the surface. Picture#4 doll has a little of that.not as much as the other one. Please zoom in on each of the dolls to see their condition. A few have some issues but it actually gives them character being such an old quilt. There are no black marks on these girls.those are shadows from taking the pictures. The back has some age stains on it. Up for Auction: A wonderful SOUTHERN BELLE HAND APPLIQUE. HAND EMBROIDERED HAND QUILTED, QUILT with Yellow Borders, White Backing and various colors used for the Southern Belle. Displayed on a Queen size bed but would be a full size quilt 95" x 70" There are 20 blocks approx. 13" x 11" with a 5" yellow border. Each block has embroidered umbrella handle, neck, arms, legs and shoes. The dress, bonnet and umbrella are applique. All done in tiny neat stitches. The complete the quilt there is a wonderful flower, pedal design on the yellow borders. On the white background it is your basic straight line quilting. All done very nicely.
