The center of this quilt top is hand stitched C. 1900 with approximately 10 stitches per inch. The outer border was added later with machine stitching. Antique Patchwork Doll Quilt- Brown& Blue Tumbling Blocks Made for a country doll. This sweet doll's quilt was all hand stitched from a quilt piece dating to the mid 19th century. All cotton patchwork on the front and a single piece of cotton cloth was used on the back. Fabric colors of browns and blues in various printed patterns of the period including stripes. Florals, plaid, dots, conversation prints, seaweed. Fabric was cut into diamond shapes then stitched into rows and form a tumbling block pattern; pieces may have been left over from a larger quilt project. Plain white edging. Measures about 9 3/8 inches x 18 3/4 inches. Clean. Fabric has some fading and there are a few light stains on the back. Antique Tumbling Block quilt. Made with extraordinary attention to detail. This quilt is colorful and crisp, with a gorgeous array of 1800s calico and floral fabrics. A beautiful display or collectible piece. Entirely hand pieced and hand quilted with brown thread at 5- 6 spi. This quilt is crisp and potentially unlaundered. I find 7 pieces with signs of age(the largest of these is shown in the fifth image. There are a few more which are faint. Remote, and hardly visible except for with intense scrutiny, such as the seventh image) and one piece that is split to expose the brown wool inside(see last image) The back is a pieced geometric cotton- it is in perfect condition. The binding is a pink calico. And very strong. This quilt is delectable, and it grows on you every time you look at it. Dimensions: 85.5" x 83"

Description Antique Vintage"Baby Blocks" Scrap Quilt Hand Pieced. Hand Quilted 94" x 74" Made of old feedsacks. Dresses and shirts back in the day when not one scrap of fabric was wasted. Today quilters just go out and buy yardage and make everything new-not so when this beauty was made. The baby blocks or tumbling blocks pattern was intricate and hard to piece; had to be done by hand. It was also hand quilted. The backing is white muslin sheeting. It is in good vintage condition with normal ageing but no holes or stains but it does have some thinned out pieces of fabric in a couple of blocks. I estimate it was made in the 1950' or'60's. Even the binding was pieced together from various scraps of fabric. This is a very nice Hexagon Tumbling Blocks vintage quilt. 65" x 75" in size. Each big hexagon shaped block on the front is made up of 27 pieces with a tumbling block in the center. Many different pretty prints and coordinating solids are used. The sashings and the backside are white. It has a narrow set-on binding in a pretty rose print. Cottons. Beautifully hand quilted. The back has a faint 1" long yellow mark that is not real noticeable. I could find nothing else wrong with this quilt. In clean near mint condition.

Vintage Star quilt. 69" x 77" in size. The front has stars in different prints and solids with many colors. They are separated by yellow Tumbling Blocks. The backside is very light yellow. The front folds over to the back to make the binding. The back has some writing at one edge. This is a lightweight quilt. It has a small tan spot about dime size. One star has a small tear as shown in the 3rd picture. There are some tiny tears on the fold of the edge in some spots. The old batting has shifted some but it lays good and flat. Cotton. I am going through my quilt collection that I have had for many years and decided it is time to sell some of them.This is a beautiful TUMBLING BLOCKS QUILT that measures 76x86" and is a thinly batted quilt.The tumbling Block area is an antique quilt and I believe the border and backing were added at a later date.The entire quilt is hand quilted but the border material I would say is not as old.Perhaps it was finished at a quilting-bee some years after the top was pieced.There is one piece on a block that the material is separated-photo 4 and there is one stain-look at photos-about the size of a nickel maybe.Otherwise no holes or damage that I can see.This is a perfect wall hanger as from a distance it has such a beautiful graphic look.Would be great on a guest room bed also especially in a cabin.Or hanging on a wall behind a bed.Any ... morequestions please ask before bidding.I am priceing my quilts a bit above the price I originally paid when I purchased them as I need to clean out some of them.So there is not a lot of wiggle room to negotiate on them.They will be INSURED for shipping.

34 11" Vintage 20's Tumbling Block String Quilt Blocks EXC Paper Pieced by hand
34 Antique String Tumbling Block Quilt Blocks Wonderful lot of 34 hand pieced quilt blocks constructed entirely of 100% cotton. Some very nice early fabrics were used to create these blocks including blacks. Indigo blues, double pinks and browns. The blocks are neatly& precisely paper pieced by hand with even stitches. The blocks measure approximately 11" across and all lay perfectly flat. Nice and clean with no rips, tears or odors, a few very light storage spots. There is some interesting and fun reading on the paper used to piece these blocks. Several references to the Nashville area when the Hippodrome was hopping and you could rent a 3 room house in posh Sylvan Park for $37.50 a month. Vintage Style TUMBLING BLOCKS Quilt: AMERICAN PACIFIC of OHIO, Needs TLC; 83" Sq
As per our"dictionary" of quilts. This pattern can be called"Variegated Diamonds" first cataloged by Ladies Art Company, No. 388. But similar patterns have other colorful names, like"Grandma's Red And White" Baby Blocks" Pandora's Block" Pandora's Box" Box Quilt" Tea Box" etc. We have seen this pattern also called"Tumbling Blocks" And that's the one we are using in the title, given the amazing 3D effect of all these"blocks" actually"tumbling" toward the viewer. This quilt is made well enough to give this impression most of the time, and more so when you look at just one section of the quilt instead than to the whole thing. It is a quilt made in China in the"vintage" or traditional American quilting tradition: all work by hand. 100% ... morecotton fabrics used for top and back, and a traditional, difficult" pattern. This one was ordered in China by a company named American Pacific, of Grove City, Ohio, one of the competitors of the better known Arch Quilts of New York. The batting is 100% polyester. Not the also traditional, vintage cotton batting of the classic quilts of the first part of the 20th century. Please check all the pics below to have an idea of what kind of repair can be done to this bedspread: we believe than replacing all the white swatches is a lot of work. But a(maybe) better, easier solution would be to simply cover all the damaged white swatches with new, clean white swatches. But probably we have no idea what we are talking about(we are not quilters or collectors around here) so you please be the judge of the best way to make this beautiful quilt beautiful again. It has an approximate square shape. 83" on each side. The bed in the photos is a queen size, 80" by 60" We have not washed this quilt. Classic, Feed Sack Quilt. Tumbling Blocks. Hand Quilted. 66 x 43
This Feed Sack quilt was made in the Tumbling Blocks pattern Snowy white background and backing- with lots of great colors and prints used in the pattern. This is a smaller version of the classic. Perhaps made for a child- but it's a terrific size to hang on a wall or throw across a sofa or a porch swing. It measures 66 x 43 inches. The batting is thin. The backing was turned forward and hand stitched closed to form the binding. Lot's of fantastic hand quilting with an average of at least 8 SPI. This quilt is strong and in great condition. I would estimate that it dates to the 1930s or 1940s. It has been used and washed over the years so there is a little fading to some of the colors. On close examination I also saw a few small spots and some light wear and a neatly mended area on the binding. Vintage Tumbling Blocks Quilt Handmade 1978 Complete Very Clean Large 93 X 73
Fresh from a recent Denver Estate Auction. This sale features a beautiful handmade Quilt in the Tumbling Block Pattern! This one is very clean, no structural damage, no age spots! There is a hand stitched fabric"plaque" on the back with the following information: Cynthia I Wagner Denver Colorado 1978. So, it appears to have been made by Ms Cynthia in 1978. It almost looks as though it was just packed-away when finished, and not used, or seldom used, as it is in near pristine condition! I see quilts at auctions frequently and most have strong age indications, e.g. frayed edges, stitching coming loose or undone, etc. This one has NONE of the usual problems I typically see with quilts. It is quite large measuring 93" X 73. You can see from the pictures that it did fit nicely on my Queen size bed! The stitching is somewhat large ... moreand could have been someone's initial attempt at quilting, but it is nicely done and is in great shape. The edge is rolled and the colors are still bright. Here is an old quilt with tiny pieces that have been hand pieced and then hand quilted many decades ago. There are small purple blocks and larger green and yellow blocks throughout with a scalloped edged. Some“age spots” are on it as I have shown in pictures. But they may launder out- I have not washed it. This quilt measures about 85 x 67 inches and is a work of art.

F.G. and surrounding wheat are all hand embroidered in gold. The quilt came out of Georgetown, Kentucky. It measures 64" X 64" and is in very good. DAZZLING 3D Vintage 1910's Vintage Tumbling Blocks Antique Quilt ~BEST OF KIND! This GORGEOUS cotton 1910's tumbling blocks quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted. With an unusual secondary diamond design in the background. It measures 70" X 76" and is in EXCELLENT condition. With a couple of small, faint age spots and no wear. There is quilting around the perimeter of each piece and in straight line designs in the background. All at an even 11-12 stitches to the inch. The back is white. The hand stitched binding is the same chambray pink used in the interior, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light. The WONDERFUL THREE DIMENSIONAL DESIGN. NICE COLORS, and GREAT CONDITION make this early 20th century COLLECTOR'S QUILT stand out!

A Lancaster County Pennsylvania Vintage Quilt Pieced Patchwork- Very Thin Batting TUMBLING BLOCKS PATTERN Circa 1920 DESCRIPTION A good old Lancaster County Pennsylvania Pieced Patchwork Tumbling Blocks Pattern Quilt. Made circa 1920 or earlier. Hand quilted at 6 sti and fine tight treadle machine stitching for the piecing. What a wonderful collection of turn of the century prints this quilt contains. Made up of more than 1000 patches. A mixture of prints, solids and checks of different feedsack fabrics and dress fabrics in solids, flowers, stripes, checks and dots. Very thin cotton batting. A very pretty trellis design fabric on the back of Tulips and Roses in Pinks. Blues and White. It's in good condition. No holes, no rips, no stains, no odors. The binding does show wear. The classic Tumbling Blocks pattern accurately executed by the makers of this quilt top: they used just three types of fabric to achieve the effect. And the resulting top is of the"red, white and blue" variety, being the"white" fabric actually a printed fabric, mostly white. It was set by hand. The fabrics seem to us 100% cotton. Up for auction is a Antique Work in Progress tumbling blocks hand pieced quilt top. I bought this with many other Victorian and Antique Linens at a local Estate Sale. This piece measures 54" long by 25" wide. It also comes with a second small piece which measures 13" long by 5" wide. Then we have a box full of antique fabric swatches and cut paper triangles which was the format for putting together this quilt. Fabrics in this piece include. Satin, Velvet, Brocade, Watered Silk, Moire Silk, taffeta, and some I don't know, but they are very Antique and Beautiful. Each piece was hand pieced and the stabling stitches are still intact, as the quilt is not finished. As I stated in was a Work in progress. I can't even imagine what it took to get this far on this piece. Many many hours of intense labor and handwork. But ... moreif it were to be completed, Wow what a Gorgeous Quilt this would make. I am selling this item with No Reserve and in"As Found" vintage Antique Used condition. pre-owned by someone very talented. Unique Quilt! Tumbling Blocks in Chevron Pattern. Feed Sack. Nice Quilting!
This is truly a beautiful and unique quilt which was purchased from an estate sale in Tennessee. Based on the feed sack and other fabrics and the color I would estimate the vintage as the 1930s. For the pattern we see ten horizontal rows of Tumbling Blocks arranged in a chevron or zig-zag like Pattern. This quilt measures about 102 x 92 inches. The fabrics are cotton and the batting is thin. For the tumbling blocks the quilter used a colorful mixture of feed sack and other prints along with solids. For the background on front. The backing and the applied binding she used a solid color that I will describe as a soft"Dusty Peach. Scalloped edges. The hand quilting is fantastic and virtually covers the entire surface of the quilt with an average of 8-9 SPI The condition is excellent. The quilt was definitely used and washed at some point ... moreover the years but has probably been in storage a long time. There is some light overall fading to some of the colors. No rips. Tears or staining. When examined closely, there are a few light and/ or small spots and some light wear at one end on the back side of the binding.

Miss the old version of this page? everything on one long page. ottbt. Ere is a striking little Tumbling Blocks quilt top in crib-sized dimension. It is very likely a segment that had once been pieced at least somewhat larger. The use of color and contrast is masterful. The selection of fabrics beautifully varied and the vintage circa 1880's or 1890's. It would be beautiful to finish as a crib quilt and offers plenty of appeal for the early fabric afficionada exactly as it is. Size This little quilt top fragment measures about 36 x 40 inches. The diamonds are 2 1/2 to 3 inches on a side. Construction Hand-pieced with occasional little machine-pieced segments. Condition The quilt top looks like it might have once been bigger. With tiny perforations from machine stitching to be found along top and left edges(and on the minority of the ... morebottom diamonds as well) plus some tiny fabric scraps along the left where additional row/s must have been removed. There are a few short unstitched seams to be redone around the edges. The top has never been washed and it does have some sections with light storage spotting, but the fabrics are strong and crisp and overall it is in great condition. Vintage 100% Cotton (Feed Sack?) STAR WITH DIAMOND (Tumbling Blocks) Thick QUILT
The quilt measures approximately 84" by 66" across. The bed used for the photos is a queen. 80" by 60" The quilt has 100% cotton batting. And it is rather thick. It might have been used as a comforter originally, when it was made. All the fabrics are 100% cotton and some of them might have come from recovered feed sacks in a farm. But we are not sure of that. So please check our photos and judge by yourself. And we are not sure, either, of what how the quilt was set: a close-up below can give you a better idea, so you decide by yourself. It seems to us it might be hand stitched, but the stitches must have been really, really tight, very close to each other. Or it was set with a sewing machine, we really can't tell, as we are no experts or collectors. In our"dictionary" of quilts. This pattern is the called"Star ... morewith Diamond" and it is said to have been listed first in"Grandmother Clark's Patchwork Quilt Designs" Book 20 of 1931. A similar pattern is called Dutch Rose, and Octagonal Star. In the case of this quilt, the design is so well carried out that there is distinct 3-D effect at certain angles that make the observer see the"tumbling blocks" effect. Vintage All Cotton Machine Sewn Tumbling GIFT BOX (Blocks) Little Quilt; 53"x47"
The classic"Tumbling Blocks" pattern but with Gift Boxes instead of regular blocks. We are not sure if there is name for this. It is a small quilt. Made with cotton fabrics but all machine sewn, and with just a bit of polyester batting. It has on the back a piece of cloth that was obviously used for a rod. In order to hand the quilt as a little curtain or as decoration at home. It might be used as a lap quilt as well. The work done to achieve the"gift box" effect was not the best in the world. As you may notice below, but it is close enough to give the right impression. There are all kind of stars surrounding the"tumbling gift boxes" central motif. It measures 53' by 47" across. ca 1900 tumbling blocks cotton quilt top, hand sewn, 73" x 68", no reserve
Offered here without reserve is this cotton hand stitched quilt top that measures 73" x 68" and made of classic 19th C calico fabric. Curiously. One edge is not cut along the sewing line(see my 3rd picture) and two of the brown patches have for some reason deterioration, which is curious since there is absolutely no issue with any other part of this quilt top. Vintage All Cotton Hand Sewn STARS & HEXAGONS Tumbling Blocks Quilt TOP; 82"x70"
This is an old quilt top. As all the fabrics used are 100% cotton and the setting was done by hand. But it is not from the feed sack era: the fabrics are probably from a later time. We are not sure of the exact name of this pattern. But these are 6-pointed stars arranged in such a way that large hexagons are created as part of what seems to be a secondary pattern. On top of that, the makers chose the fabrics in such a way that looking at them in the right way you'll get the tumbling blocks optical effect. The quilt top measures approximately 82" by 70" The bed in the photos is a queen. 80" by 60"
