But this belonged to my great-grandmother who was born in 1867 but I don't know when she made it or acquired it. Approximate Measurements: 92" x 70" The pillow cover measures 15" by 15" This is a beautiful vintage handstitched quilt with a hexagon honeycomb pattern. This handmade folk art quilt has over 6000 multi-colored hexagon pieces. The variety in the different flowers is amazing. So many different flower patterns and colors expertly put together. This beautiful piece has to be seen to get the true appearance much better than pictures show due to lighting conditions. It features a lovely collection of vintage fabrics. Some feed sack I think. The cotton batting is light weight and evenly distributed. Each hexagon measures 1 inch wide. The hexagons on the pillow are 3/4 inches wide. There are about 260 hexagons on the pillow case. The quality is very good with very light wear. The edge around the quilt has frayed. I showed the most extreme fraying in a picture. There are also two light purple pen marks, one of which bled through, also shown in pictures but hard to find when you are just looking at the quilt as a whole.

Antique Sampler Crazy Quilt - dated and signed 1890
This is a Sampler CRAZY QUILT that has been signed and dated by many different ladies. The quilt displays their workmanship and embroidery skills. Entirely HAND MADE. There are multiple choices of embroidery holding the pieces together- its not just one stitch style. Please look at the edges of the pieces. There are a variety of fabrics used also- silk. Velvet etc. I've included pictures of some to the pieces where the fabric is fraying- probably more from the choice of material than through usage. Very talented needlework. There is a Victorian girl holding a wooden bucket, a Victorian boy blowing bubbles, a child wearing a bonnet, a boy fishing, flowers, water lily, wreaths, acorn& leaves, lace up boots, a crown, Parasol, heart with an arrow through it, a wheelbarrow, pitcher& basin, plus animals such as a mouse, a dove, monkey, ... morefox, dog, owl. There are names- Pollie, Flora- and many initials. The quilt was stated to have come from the estate of Marg Hutchison and came to my wife via an eBay purchase in November 2003 from South Western Canada. The back of the quilt is an antique paisley material. There is some minor bleeding on a few pieces. It is done in one of my favorite color combinations of pretty pink and green pastel solid and printed fabric. This quilt measures 72"x85" You see it photographed on a double bed. The quilt has a pink backing. The back is signed. In embroidery, The Carpenter Sisters, Rose, Mabel, Luella, Vaye, Evelyn, 1933, Made by Vaye" This quilt is well-made with 8-9 stitches per inch. It is quilted by the piece. in the ditch" The scale is a nice average scale, with the rings measuring 16" I did not see any stains, nor wear, but I do think the batting is a bit seperated if you hold it up to the light. My treasure-trove of memories for you Josephine Day Mickelson This pretty applique quilt is called"Dogwood Beauty" and it was made by Elsie Hughey of Sharon. Pa. Janurary 2, 1919- November 2, 1996) She embroidered he name in one of the corners. Elsie was an avid quilter& she was known around the Sharon& Farrell Pa. areas for beautiful crochet work as well. This quilt is really nice with light& darker pink dogwood blossoms, light brown branches vining like a trellis, and green leaves. The leaves' veins& tips of the blossoms have been embroidered. all on a crisp& clean white backing. Made from 100% cotton ... more~ a medium weight cotton batting. The quilt measures 83" x 68" is in excellent condition with only one very light stain that can barely be noticed(see picture#13, along the border) It's very nicely quilted too ~ diagonal lines outlining one another to form diamonds is quilted within the trellises& every piece of applique has been quilted around. Large. Long feathers are quilted all around the quilt& those are framed by interwoven round loops. All very neat stitching with 7-8 spi. Please take a look at the other quilts I have listed. Beautiful old 1913 youth quilt. Signed by"Grandma Sears, with 1913 date. Wonderful, primitive quality, much like a sampler. There are 28 unique embroidered images of birds, nursery rhyme characters, flowers, flag, animals, children, some with captions. One shows a child drinking from a old siphon nurser. Another shows a donkey with a"temperance drink! This quilt is in quite good shape for being 100 years old! I fou nd it stored in a hope chest in Washington state. It was obviously used and loved. It has a few places where some seam stitches have come loose. One triangle tear. Light staining in one place- see photo. But nothing noticeable, as you can hopefully see from my(not very professional) photos! The back is plain white muslin with the red ties. Antique Handmade 1800s BASKET OF FLOWERS Applique Quilt SIGNED Jamerson 1863
This lovely Basket of Flowers applique quilt is a lovely display with Rose of Sharon style flowers and buds. Signed in ink on the backside it reads Jamerson. 1863. It looks to have been cut down and rebound. Most likely to remove two damaged borders and preserve the best of the quilt. It would make a lovely display or cutter quilt. It has a nice quality feel to it and is clean with the ivory ground showing a perfect patina. The uneven fading of the fugitive colors makes for an interesting look that cannot be replicated. Still a usable quilt if you should decide to use it on a bed. The fabrics used are all 100% Cotton solid fabrics. The overall size is 62 X 78 inches. There are 12 blocks used in the making of the top. Each block measures 13" inches square and set on point. The white fabric is a nice off white cotton. The cotton batting ... moreis a medium weight and evenly distributed. The backing is made from a strong off white cotton muslin. It is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted by a very skilled quilter at 12 stitches per inch(counted both sides) with the applique work more finely stitched. The border is located on one side and measures 8" inches. The full hand applied binding measures just under 1/2" inch and looks to be reproduction fabrics and added sometime in the 60s- 70s. Binding is in excellent condition with no signs of wear or fading. CONDITION: This quilt is in good clean condition. It has fading and fabric thinning. No holes or tears and all the stitches are in place. Overall. It is a lovely piece. It looks as if it has been cleaned by someone who knew what they were doing and a job well done. There are no major stains or spots to be concerned about. There is no odor to this quilt and it does not appear to have been exposed to insects. Smoke, pets or abuse. T he heart with homely tasks content. Gorgeous Turkey Red antique quilt made around the Turn of the Century. The quilt is signed PIG ~ a piece of fabric sewn in one of the corners written in old fountain ink. This pattern is a variation of a pattern known as Young Man's Fancy. This quilter added pieces by piecing another small Nine Patch in the center of each block instead of using one square only. It looks fantastic! Each 16" block is made up of ... more87 pieces ~ all pieced completely by hand. There are several other names for this pattern depending upon which reference book you use: Goose in the Pond. Unique Nine Patch, Patchwork Fantasy, Geometric Garden, Scrap Bag, Mrs. Wolf's Red Beauty, Bachelor's Puzzle, Missouri Puzzle. The quilt measures 76" x 74" is in very good condition. The turkey red is as vibrant as the day the quilt was made(pieced to a very light beige backing) There is one dirt mark& 2 old water stains with a small wear spot in the border(see last 2 pictures) What I believe happened causing that wear spot was that there was probably a little stain there& someone tried treating the wrong way& wore through the fabric. Then letting that area dry on it's own causing the water marks. I will be glad to offer a remedy for this to the buyer. The quilting is extremely nice! Very tiny& even stitches(10 spi) were used to make a small 1/2" grid design in the rectangular white blocks& double diagonal lines through the patterned blocks. up for auction i have an antique crazy quilt that i recently purchased at a flea market.the colors are exceptional. the back of the quilt is still intact and in good shape. the front displays an array of beautiful colors. naturally, some of the material has deteriorated with age. But overall it is in good condition. W L Calender is embroidered on one of the pieces and the name Myrtle Raymond is written in ink or marker on one of the pieces. This is a very nice old crazy quilt and i hope it finds a good home. my mom quilted all of her life. STURDY cotton"twinkling star" quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted, with the name"Anda Mae Crowell" and date"1907" hand embroidered in the border(though some, if not MOST of the fabrics date back to the 19th century) It measures a generous 78" X 86" and is in MINT. UNWASHED condition, with the occasional small age spot(see photos) and no wear. There are straight line designs quilted throughout at an even 8 stitches to the inch. The back is a pleasing grey striped fabric. The hand stitched binding is late 19th century cinnamon pink, and the batting is thin. The WONDERFUL DESIGN. SUPERB CONDITION, and SMALL SCALE make this turn of the century MASTERPIECE stand out!

As I began ... moreto look this over. I found a tag on the back which lead me to the Western PA Quilt Documentation Project, along with an identifying number. They dated it to be made before 1799. This was done in cotton, muslin, a floral print, in solid/plain alternating stripes, the floral fabric is described as being an engraved roller print with indigo brushed in flowers. Along two sides, triangles have been appliqued to give a sawtooth look, with a straight line edge. The whole thing is heavily quilted with feathering and vines, and diamonds along the border strips with the triangles. The backing is made of three muslin panels, hand sewn together and filled with cotton batting. The quilt project notes indicate that this may have been made in England in the late 18th century. On the back in a corner, you find a name embroidered, Annie Hoover, or perhaps Rover. I lean towards Hoover, myself. This quilt measures approx. 82" wide by 87.75" long. It is in amazing condition, the edges are not frayed but some of the print fabric has deteriorated. I could find no damage on this quilt other than a small hole on the backside, it is bright and crisp with thin batting that is not lumpy or bunched, there is a section of green along the side that the edge of the fabric with no print was used, see picture. also one corner of the green looks a little off color, I hate to say faded because this quilt is definitely not faded. It has been well taken care of and likely stored away from the sun most of its life. Just spectacular! This wonderful antique quilt is from 1874 and is a CRAZY QUILT pattern. It measures 54 in. by 47 in. with a 3 in. ruffle. One of the corner pieces is signed and dated"V. E Johnson Born 1874" It is most likely a baby's name and birthdate. The back and ruffle are made from SATEEN and in excellent condition with no rips. tears or holes. There are a couple very slight stains on the backing though. The embroidery is all done with wool and the majority of the pieces are wool. There are a few made from silk but those have wear on them as seen in the pictures. The artistic embroidery is exceptional especially the"pictures" of a rooster. Butterflies, and flowers. Beautiful antique quilt, signed and dated 1927 Handquilted
Very beautiful antique quilt. It is signed HM'27. For a 1927 handquilted quilt. Its in pretty good condition. I have shown the small holes that I saw, and tried to show any defects. Overall its in pretty decent condition for its age. It measures 76 inches by 60 inches. I believe it has a feedsack back. The quilting thread which I tried to show in one of the pics, is a thick looking thread. colors are blues, pinks, reds. I don't know the name of this pattern. It has 30 blocks which are approx 9 inch squares. I am not a quilt expert, but have tried to describe as best I could. It is usuable as it, probably needs a cleaning but I didn't try it. Does not have any offensive odors. Its is heavy with the old type cotton batting. I used it as a display in my antique store which was in Maryville TN. Antique Redwork Quilt Signed and Dated 1893
This is a wonderful old quilt! It is done in"Redwork" Which refers to the red thread used for the embroidery and was a very popular style way back when.like 120 years back when! It is signed on one corner with LT and the date of 1893. It also is signed in the center with CT. I am assuming those are either the initials of a husband and wife or of two people who worked on the quilt. It has embroidered pictures mainly of children, pets and flowers. It has some age spots.one about the size of a quarter, and some places where it looks like the red yarn left a very slight pale pink discoloration on the fabric. It has some separation of the material.a"thinning" actually, mainly around the borders, which can be expected in a quilt this age. There are some areas where there appears to be a slight"shadow" if you will.not ... morereally of dirt but I think just age. None of these things detract from how well it displays. I bought it at an auction where it was kept in a glass quilt rack and it looked fantastic. I was told it had a musty odor.I really can't smell it, but maybe my"sniffer" isn't so good! I would not be surprised, again.it is 120 years old. If you are looking for a wonderful example of early Americana, you will love this one. It is shown displayed on a Queen bed. Signed 1889 San Francisco Crazy Quilt American Flags Cats Flowers 19th Century
This is a fantastic example of a 19th Century Crazy Quilt from San Francisco prior to the San Francisco earthquake and fire. The quilt measures 66" x 76.5" and is signed in many places with initials and first names. But most notably it's signed"L.V. Wolfe San Francisco 1889. The quilt is actually dated 1889 in two places. The fabric is velvet. Silks, tobacco premiums and flag silks. The batting is cotton and the backing is four pieces of commercially quilted gold silk. The quilt is made of thirty six blocks set six across and six down and is framed on top and bottom by burgundy velvet. It is heavily embroidered and painted throughout. The construction is excellent and the quilt lays completely flat. In terms of condition. I'd say very good, however there is wear on the edges and there are a few fractured silks. There ... moreare several notable panels. One being made of 16 panels of flag silk. The flags have 32 stars on them, which represents a flags from the mid 19th century. There is also a panel of three cats at play. Cookie" is embroidered into the top corner of this panel. There are many painted panels. Which are all in good condition. This quilt was purchased from an estate. While it was stored in a blanket chest. The previous owners were smokers. It has a smoky odor and will need to be aired out. WONDERFUL dated 1905 1935 signed CLASSIC special story REDWORK antique quilt top
Miss the old version of this page? everything on one long page. htrwe. Ith classic and unusual. Customized blocks, this lovely, crisp Redwork quilt top really hits all the high notes of the beloved style. Amidst Kate Greenaway-style scenes of children, the classic Good Morning, Good Night, Baby and Good Luck blocks, circus animals, floral vignettes and half the denizens of any decent zoo and farm, there are a couple particularly moving personalized details. A 1905 date near the quilt's center is in keeping with the heyday of the style and probably correct for the date of the bulk of the blocks. Save for two which appear at the lower corners and are both dated 1935. These unusual blocks include Dorothy Marie Arno's name(perhaps the inheritor of an incomplete top who added her two special blocks in the process of enlarging the top with ... moremore blocks around all the edges) and even more endearingly: Auntie Marie Arno" who she signals is her namesake. This theory of a generational top completed in two stages is bolstered by the fact that the center is pieced together with machine-stitching. While the outer row on all sides was added on by hand. You'll also note some minor differences in taste between the inner 54 blocks and the outer 34. The maker of the 1905 blocks favored complex floral arrangements. The Greenaway-style girls, those Good Morning etc. wordy blocks and featured almost no animals save for birds. Meanwhile, if it was Dorothy who made the outer blocks, I think we have her to thank for the unusual inclusion of at least seven of the very same bird block. She also contributed almost all of the sparer animal blocks and added no further floral arrangements. Personal taste or signs of the times. Really a lovely example in excellent condition made all the more singular and collectible by that bit of family history sketched out and the curious. Generational story suggested. antique signed 1839 cotton jaquard COVERLET sampler quilt early 19th century
signed 1839 Up for auction. Fresh from an old local estate is an ivory and indigo cotton and wool? jacquard coverlet. I'm not sure, but looking at it under a loupe it looks like the ivory part is cotton and the indigo part is wool. I am not an expert on this type of textile. But it is reversible signed on two corners: made by W.S. MEL LINGER 1839. It measures 83" by 74" There is a small hole in the middle and one on the edge, see pictures. Also, maybe one or two other tiny holes. I is in overall great condition and will make a fine addition to your collection! Check out my other vintage auctions! The backing or body of the quilt is made from a very pretty dark& light cinnamon print with little white flowers& the patterned blocks are made with many other prints that date back to the 1880's. Offering today a fantastic historical quilt from Springport Michigan. This folk art quilt is hand stitched with signatures from many many Springport residents. I am not sure when the quilt was started. However I did find one dated 1927. There are roughly 250-275 names of both men and women. Measures approx 76" x 64" I am not a quilt expert but this appears to have a stitched pocket on the back(top and bottom) to hang on a wall. I am not sure if this is considered a topper. But it is not real thick. The center square has most of the stitching missing but almost all of the other squares are very good. There are a couple tears and and edge wear spots. I found one square that has been removed. There are no moth holes or smells. Colors are clean and brilliant. This beautifully made QUILT was done many years ago. As the pictures show. The quilt features hand applique and is hand-stitched. Everything was done with great care, and signed by the maker, EDIE. The Quilt measures 69" long x 60" across. The quilt seems to have been made for a small bed. Maybe a child's bed. It has 3 inch squares turned on point with a calico print that is also used for the back and the binding. The little girls have been appliqued on and the embellished with French knot eyes. Stem stitch mouths, and braided yarn pig tails. is signed and dated J.C. 1988. The entire quilt measures right at 19 inches by 14 3/4 inches. It has a fabric strip across the back top for hanging. The only flaw I found was tiny amounts of hot glue on the corners. I have included photos of this, it is minor and only on the back. One corner has a very tiny tear, very tiny. Applique Crib Quilt This is an easy listing to do. As there is very little to apologize for on this pretty child's applique crib quilt! It measures 46"x65" appliqued with cute little nursery animals, and embroidered with the title, Go To Bed Sleepy Heads" It is not in"mint" condition. But certainly in very good to excellent condition! It seems to have seen very little use. I have washed it, the fabric is strong and there are no holes or stains. The embroidery work and detail are exceptional. It is carefully quilted at 8-9 stitches per inch. The edges are scalloped. With a hand-stitched pink binding. For auctio n is a beautiful quilt in subdued pastel tones. In a wedding ring pattern. Quilt appears entirely hand-stitched, but may have been partially machine-made. Item is signed Marion Nims( Brown 1935 on reverse. Measurement is about 77 x 90 inches. Condition is excellent. No apparent wear. There is some light soiling on reverse only. And a small stain which has a very very slight bleedthrough on the front(see last photo) Near-perfect in my estimation. Shipping is based on location. Item will weigh about 5.5 pounds packed. And rare antique Baltimore Album Quilt, dated 1854 that has been traced back to Baltimore Maryland. It has a turkey red. Light brown and off white triple border with block quilting across them. Grid. Chain, blocked, leaves, clovers, tear drop leaves, and flower quilting. Hand appliqued and hand embroidered. Light pencil marks are still visible. Hand quilted at 10-11 stitches per inch and hand bound with a tiny 1/8" binding. 1" grid quilting thru out. There are three stamped signatures: M.R. Dudderar. G.A. Dudderar, and K.b. Dudderar. JACQUARD WOVEN COVERLET ~ SIGNED MEILEY 1844 ~ LEBANON PENN ~ X COND ~ not Quilt Here is a rare coverlet woven by Emanuel Meily. Lebanon PA and dated 1844. It was made for S. Gilbert. It is in outstanding condition clean with lots if thick lush fringe. The Columbus Ohio Art Museum notes in a 1995 publication that there are only 26 known Meily coverlets. In 1834. Meily received a patent for a weaving machine which was described as a type of machine never before used in America. I find a thin spot on one side(pictured) and some missing stitches. A bit of fringe loss on the sides. There are 4 big stars and loads of little ones. The indigo fringe is dark and lush. Coverlet measures 77 x 95 without the fringe. The photograph shows most of the coverlet. It was too big to hang so two ½ large stars are folded over. Do let me know if you need ... moremore photos or have any questions. Signed Age 13 Dated 1896 Pictorial Redwork Album Quilt Top Square Ohio 81" x 48" I was amazed that this was signed by a 13 year old and the quality of work and amount of time that went in to crafting it. I bought it at a local Northeast Ohio auction to show my 14 year old what can be done. I believe this is a quilt top. There is no stuffing or interior to it, the edges are cut slightly uneven. Each square is approx 8" Some minor spots are evident, I did not try to clean it. I was unable to photograph the entire piece in one photo.
