Vintage Applique Garden Poppies Bucilla Quilt Kit Quilt b. Vintage Garden Poppies Applique Quilt kit by Bucilla# 8971 Plus Backing and Floss. What a beautiful Vintage quilt kit just in time for Christmas gift giving. This quilt will become a family heirloom and would make a gorgeous displayed during the Holiday. This is an vintage kit that has the air of the 1930's but I am guessing this kit was put out in the50.S 60's. There is no actual date on the package or inside the instructions. The quilt comes in it's original store packaging with the Stewart's Department Store Label. It sold for $17.60! There were several Stewart's Department stores from my research(Lower Manhattan and one in Baltimore, Maryland. but the store label looks much like the writing from the Louisville, Kentucky Store. I do not know if they were one ... morein the same or all different ownership. The package was opened and the kit is in pristine condition! The quilt and applique pieces are still in factory folded condition. The red and green binding are still folded and secured with factory ties. The directions are yellowed from time and some what wrinkly and the main picture does have a slight tear and is wrinkly. The quilt top measures 84"x100 suitable for Twin or Full beds. The quilt top is listed as white but it has turned ivory from time. There is blue printed design throughout the quilt top for quilting process. I am including all the floss colors listed with exception to#498 Dark Red. I could not find it at my local store. The DMC colors listed with the kit do not seem to match up with today's DMC colors Dark Green is now a Olive color green. So you may need to adjust the colors to your taste. Miss the old version of this page? everything on one long page. hpbqe. His splendid mid-century composed bouquet applique quilt has everything to recommend it: lovely tasteful repeating design. Excellent(nearly perfect) original condition, outstanding, dense hand-quilting plus lush, showy embellishments and applique in a skillful, confident hand. The colors are unusual and a very welcome departure if you weary of the early 20th century kit-quilt pastels plus endless tulips. Roses et al. These unique bouquets include pretty Poppies, Black-eyed Susans, Daisies and even a pretty little blue flower dotted with tiny white French Knots. In generous dimensions even suitable for a modern bed, it really is a lovely find, ready for use and exquisite enough for the most discerning collector of fine floral applique. Size The quilt measures about 80 x ... more90 inches. The repeating applique blocks are actually appliqued to vertical panels. Not single square blocks. The applique in the bouquets measures about 12 x 13 inches across. The stems are 1/4 inch wide or well under. The little applique mounds along the bound edge stand less than 1 inch tall. Quilting The hand-quilting is lovely. With 6-8 little stitches to the inch. Counting on the top side of the quilt only. The blocks backgrounds are quilted in 1-inch diagonal square grid. Triple-outlines midway between blocks give the impression of pieced square block backgrounds. The wide borders are where the quilting is really lavish with all the floral elements of the bouquets repeated in dense hand-quilting and a little picket fence detail all around the outermost edge! Along the sides, the blooms grow in Construction The quilt is exquisitely. Densely, expertly hand-appliqued and embellished with hand-embroidery. The few long seams are stitched by machine. Backing. Vintage Floral and Poppy Applique Quilt this is definitely a vintage quilt- hand appliqued and embroidered The red leaves have turned to brown due to the green dye that was used in the 1800's and early 1900's- the green dye could not stand up to the oxidation There are a few leaves that have some wear. I can replace these leaves if you would like me too. I have been a quilter for 30 years. Or, many collectors of vintage quilts like the way the older quilts age and they want to keep them original. the rest of the quilt is beautiful. Standing time very well. Scalloped edges. If you look very closely in places you can still see the faint tracing lines applied for the seamstress to follow for the quilting. It appears that it was completed and put away. And knowing that a new owner will also always wash a spread, it seemed a shame to launder it twice. Once in the home and well cared for these really never need washing again for years and years! The quilt also has pieces of silk in light colors. Every piece is outlined w/embroidery stitches- lots of herringbone, vine stitch& other fancy stitching. The back is 2 different flannel stripes- both are gray. Condition- overall. Good. A very beautiful 1940's Quilt in Pink& Red Poppy/Tulip Cross-Stitch Design. Poppies are done in red w/Black Trim and Tulips in 2 shades of Pink with some Red; both having Green Foilage. Some Dragonflies are also added. The flowers are arranged in 3 vertical lengths down the center of the Quilt and this Floral Spray framed by bright pink cross-stitches. The 16" Trim around the quilt is all white and stitched into a Tulip and Butterfly Design. Back of Quilt is all white and designed as the trim. This Quilt was never used or laundered. Very small hand stitching was used to authenticate its age. Quilt measures a generous 84" x 96" Item is in good condition with no tears and was purchased in Indiana. VINTAGE HANDMADE QUILT POPPY? TULIP? 85 x 68 LIGHT WEIGHT EMBROIDERED ON LEAVES AND LARGE FLOWER(POPPY? CENTER This quilt was found at an estate sale in Pennsylvania. I believe this quilt was originally red/ green/ white with a mint green back. The edging is still red. But the flowers have faded to a pinkish color. You will see in the pictures that they used 3 different shades of green for the applique work on the stems and leaves. I think the front white was machine stitched to the red box that goes around the flowers(treadle? All of the hand stitching is t iny and done well. There is a unique vine of tulips across the top of the quilt- I assume that is a decoration to go over the pillows. In the pictures the mint green back appears white(my camera is terrible- sorry) It really is mint green- It shows clearly in the photo with the front ... morecorner bent over the back(pic 5) There is a repair on the back(see pic) The red edging is hand stitched(see pic) Measurements: 85x68 light weight CONDITION: Very good. Antique Hand Stitched Poppy Applique Quilt
Here is a gorgeous antique hand quilted. And hand appliqued quilt. The large and dramatic poppy appliques vary and are formed in watermelon red…deep red. and plum with foliage of sea foam green, and deep green. There are hand-embroidered accents. There are buds between those in full bloom. The colorful flowers are set against a ground of eggshell. The scalloped edge is hand bound in red. The quilt is in very good condition with no holes or tears seen. The measurements are approx. 80” by 76”
