This is a set of 12 little waistcoat buttons with an approximate 5/16" ... morediameter. Although they are just over 3/8" across, the brass is very elaborately stamped and cut forming a sort of bezel setting over the mother of pearl centers. The buttons are backed with black painted steel backs which give the buttons a shank style attachment. Even the tiny mother of pearl inserts are incised with a circle. I bought a collection of very old buttons that were lovingly kept in a top drawer of an antique cabinet. This is an auction for this lovely Victorian set of 12 beautiful inlaid mother of pearl or abalone hand carved buttons on the original card. I don't know exactly what the base material of the button is. It could be gutta percha. Bakelite, tortoise.I am not sure but they are authentic antique buttons as found in really nice condition. Each one is slightly unique as you can tell they were hand worked. These measure 5/8" This auction is for a set of a dozen on the original card as found. The condition is really nice for its age.
