Some have brass shanks(loop. Plate& loop, box, etc) while others have the glass self shank. There is one with a metal base, soldered shank& black glass facing. Another one may not be glass, but not regular plastic as I know it. Also, one button is more of a brown, not black. This beautiful antique button is white glass with a classical design of laurel leaves. It has both gold and silver luster. It measures 7/8" A NBS medium size. 4-way box shank. What appears to be gold luster loss is scanner flash. The gold is all there. The back appears to have two rough spots but I believe they are original mold flaws. Very Rare Antique Vintage Glass Buttons Cameos Gold Luster AMAZING! Victorian
In October of 1988. I lived two hours and six minutes from Prague. At a time when Germany was still divided between the eastern and western sects, I visited this historic town where items in shop windows were not necessarily for sale. Such was the case with these antique glass buttons(original owner dated them to late 1890- 1918) partially concealed in brown paper. Ever found any like these since. Exhaustive research has never netted another identical, or even close match, so they truly could be considered extremely rare. This set of six, LARGE sized(32mm Round) cameo relief buttons are of glass with gold lusters and tint washes. Each one ... moreis hand painted, and no two are alike. Shanks are two part, metal couplings. Each button is flawless, having never been in circulation, no chips, no cracks, absolutely GORGEOUS. Predominate colors in this set are opal-lavender, and brilliant Czech red, with gold luster, and iridescent pewter(looks purple in some lights) The antique La Mode is in excellent condition with minor bends and a couple of faint watermarks.
