We continue offering items from a consignment that have been in a Southwestern New Hampshire family for years. As we have now discovered, back into the first half of the 19th century. My consignor explains; To the best of my knowledge my family were primarily farmers in Dublin. NH. There were several generations living on the farms at the same time. Farm income was supplemented by various means. Hiriam Carey was the Dublin carriage driver for Mark Twain and my Grandmother was a seamstress who also made costumes for the likes of Amelia Earhart and Joseph Linden Smith during their stays in Dublin. Though there may not have been a lot of money to purchase luxuries' or non essential items sometimes the family was given small things for either payment or in appreciation. My mother and grandmother were founders of a local button club and since ... moremy grandmother was a seamstress who made costumes for the Dublin Art Colony plays many of their special collected buttons were remnants of other peoples' purchases. Here we have one of five related cards. All approx. 8 1/4" X 11" with anywhere from 29 to 46 buttons that we will be offering. One card is titled, Found in the Bible, Book-Chapter-Verse given. Items on most of the cards are in alphabetical order, but other than one card devoted to animals I can discern no connection between the items on an individual card. The range of types and age of the buttons is great, from a one piece golden age with bible& In God We Trust" back marked"Orange Colour" to a modern wooden mouse with leather ears& tail. On this card we have 46 buttons ranging from 3/8" to 1 1/4" in diameter. A wonderful variety of buttons. Up for auction is a nice trio of antique Satsuma buttons from the Meiji period; 1890-1910. These buttons were made as an export item. Each features one of the Japanese Immortals. They have finely painted detail on each Immortal and are rimmed in gold. The buttons measure 22mm wide and are 8mm thick. They are in very good. Used condition. Vintage Satsuma porcelain buttons, set of 5
5 matching vintage porcelain Satsuma Japanese buttons. All have the same enameled design in green with gold outlining and the outer rim also is gold. They measure about 3/4" in diameter and have the pass through type hole in the back to attach them to fabric. These are quite old- perhaps 1920's? and are in good vintage condition though all of the buttons have crazing.

Hello& welcome to my auctions. Up for auction is an antique matching set of hand painted Satsuma buttons. These are quite old as they are quite thick whereas new modern ones are quite thin. This matching pair has pink cherry blossoms& their buds. Brownish/ reddish foliage are painted on. As well. Gilt trim decorates the flowers& foliage although on one it has worn away somewhat. The gilt around the edges seem fine on both. Th ey both measure approximately 1/2 inches wide. There is paint wear commensurate with their age. Two Satsuma buttons with matching borders of black and gold
Offering two Satsuma buttons with matching borders of gold and black. the larger of the two shows a redish-orange and gold bush with a bird sitting near the top. The second depicts a dragon heavily encrusted with gold. Both of these buttons have thick bodies with unglazed low self shanks. No signs of wear. Excellent original condition. The sizes are 9/16[15mm] and 15/16[24mm] We also have other Satsuma buttons listed on our page. They are part of a large three generation collection.

3 Porcelian Satsuma Buttons. In very good condition with nice gold detailing and good color. These came out of my mothers estate. The last few photos shows Uncle Charles Chandler and his wife along with the Prince of Japan and his wife. The photo was taken at Grandmas house in the 1920's. I have around 30 wood block prints. Catalogs, books, scroll and other, I may send off to an auction house. The oldest catalog in this group is dated 1743. In the 1970's her house full of treasures was appraised at 36 million. She died in 1989 and most items went to auction. Her 3 sons split up the rest. Satsuma Iris Buttons Circle w/ Cross Shimazu Crest Meiji Period
I am not a button collector- but my mother was- She sewed her entire life and I remember playing in her button can when I was very young- Yes that was the sort of button collector she was- There are probably some special buttons in that can and I will find a rainy day to go through it- But when I opened one of her jewelry boxes there where three sets on buttons inside- This Satsuma pair was one of those sets- I know something of Satsuma through my collecting love- Open Salts- I tried to find as much information as I could on these before listing them- If I have made any gross or even minor mistakes- Please feel free to teach me- I think from what I have seen previously and currently posted- and from what I could find out about the mark- that the following pertains to these two- They are Meiji Period Satsuma Pottery- Carry a mark of a Circle ... morewith a Cross which is the Shimazu Family Crest- They have a fine crackle finish as most Satsuma pieces do- The colors are bright and muted at the right places- They have an unglazed self shank- There are no cracks or chips and they are about an inch in diameter- I am not sure my mother ever used them- Perhaps she was saving them for a special outfit- I just think it is time for someone who collects and appreciates buttons to have them- These will be individually wrapped and placed in a protective box in a padded envelope- or mailed in a small box depending on which manner I think is the safest for them to travel- Been meaning to add that though we quit smoking a million years ago- we do have cats- So there will be no ashes in my wrappings but there may tend to be a cat hair or two- There are several books available on open salts and most of them are sold on eBay- 5000 OPEN SALTS A COLLECTORS GUIDE by William Heacock and Patricia Johnson- THE OPEN SALT COMPENDIUM by Sandra Jzyk and Nina Robertson- A set of ten books by Allan B and Helen B Smith and Two books by Clark W. A stunning full set of 12 Japanese Satsuma Zodiac Buttons Each button is beautifully designed with the sign and symbol. And further embellished with gold stars! Lots of gold detail. Beautiful against the black background. Backmarked"JAPAN" on shanks as seen. Had some scanner flash issues when scanning.colors are richer and better in person! 1&1/8" c.1930's-40's. All in excellent unused condition. All buttons are enlarged to show detail and also to abide by eBay's picture size rule…take note of actual size indicated in each listing. This is a beautiful set of vintage handpainted pottery Satsuma buttons. These buttons are in excellent condition. Free of cracks or chips. The background color of the buttons is cream.Typical of Satsuma very fine crazing is under the glaze. Each button is painted with a different colorful figure and gilted. There is a gilt border as well. The buttons are good size. 1 3/16" in diameter. 2 Pretty vintage Floral Buttons-Satsuma Iris Flowers & China Transfers are
Store This auction is for 2 vintage floral buttons. One is a 3/4" Satsuma type button with iris flowers and gold outlining. It has crazing but otherwise is in good condition. The second button is just over 3/4" and is white China with a orange and purple flower pattern transferred onto it. It is in good condition.
