This button is a steel base with a brass depiction of the nursery rhyme character Little Bo Peep. There is some scratching on steel surface. Great detail. Button dates late 1800s. Button is featured in the book: About Buttons: A Collector’s Guide pages 90& 92 CONDITION: minor surface wear– Patina. Scratching, some plating wear. Wear on backs SIZE: 19mm Smoke Free Environment Note I take every precaution and follow button instructions in cleaning& restoring each button to as close to its original condition. At times. Some buttons will have corrosion, scratches, damage and some discoloration and cannot be brought to“perfect” condition. Therefore. Most of my buttons were obtained years ago through estate sales and antique stores. Back before button collecting became popular and the truly vintage buttons became harder to find! I don't use modern. Cheap plastic, filler buttons. All of the buttons that I use are generally from the 1800's through 1950's. I try never to"harm" a button. I devise creative ways of using these treasured keepsakes without gluing or harming them in any way. Only gluing buttons, or removing shanks if they were damaged when I received them. In some of my creations I also use vintage jewelry parts. Stampings and findings. Again, nothing modern is used. Several pieces have 14K gold or sterling silver chains. A good portion of my vintage brass findings were obtained from a woman who purchased them years and years ago from a vintage costume jewelry manufacturer who had gone out of business. These gorgeous brass findings had been sitting in their warehouse for years before being bought. They are vintage. And yet they are unused. Most of the findings are from the 1940's and 1950's. These 13 Victorian buttons feature a silvered brass escutcheon in a floral motif with cut steel accents over a shiny sort of midnight blue metal backing. The buttons are about 1/2 an inch across. Overall fair condition with surface rust/patina and shine loss to background piece. Some leaves are bent. Some flowers have lost their silvering. I have not attempted to clean or restore these buttons. They will be well-wrapped and shipped via USPS. Thanks.
