Antique Cypher Monogram "A & L" Livery Buttons Made Into Cufflinks Help OTTBs
Very old livery buttons that were made into men's or ladies cuff links. The Initials are in French script and I believe are the letters A and L. Shank is marked 1/20th 12 karat gold filled and are soldered securely on these buttons. Approximate dimensions are 1 inch buttons and 1/2 inch Shank that extends to 3/4 inch. I did take tracing paper to try to highlight how pretty the script is.very ornate. They show signs of wear and tarnish. Jewelry cleaner or metal polish should help. I will not clean these and leave them as I found them. Thinking these might make a nice unique Father's Day gift or even an extra special groom's gift. Looking for old buttons? I purchased these buttons from a collector many. Many years ago. She had a fabulous collection and knew a lot about buttons. These buttons were on a card and she identified them as livery buttons or buttons that were used on uniforms. These buttons she said were made by Firmin and Sons of London. The biggest button is 3/4 inch in diameter. They are heavy and almost look like they could be bronze. Feel free to ask questions. We sell antique. Vintage, and collectibles, and some things that have never been used! We try to describe things well and to show several photos. In spite of our best intentions, we may miss something. Lot of 4 neat old buttons. All appear to be in dug condition. Probably detecting finds but unfortunately I do not know the location they were excavated. One is a REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE with liberty cap and fasces and I think may be a military or diplomatic uniform button and date to the 1st French Republic(circa 1792- 1804) but please review the photos and make your own determination.
