Happy to offer these exquisite examples of well made AND beautiful vintage. I have dated these c. mid 1800's based on the design and materials. These sweet little brass buttons measure 5/8" Diameter. They are a single layer. Openwork dome with a dimensional floral motif. Each features 8 facet cut steel gems, creating sparkling beauty despite some tarnish. There is a total of 18 buttons. Including 2 which are bent(one of these is missing a steel cut) and 1 other which is only missing a steel cut. Please examine photos carefully for condition and features. 70 Vintage Brass 2 and 3 piece Loop Shank buttons Aesthetic Movemt, Sets
You are considering a lot of 70 brass buttons which are 2-piece and 3-piece construction. All have wire loop shanks. There's one set of 12 matching buttons(5/8 inch) that have a square inside the outter circle and are especially nice. I'm not sure what the material behind the flowers is. But I suspect some version of painted cardboard. It's all intact. The set of 10 with the acorn and acanthus leaf motif shows more wear on the background material. The 2 large center buttons(1 3/8" diameter) look like gay 90's except that the center jewel is celluloid. There's a set of 4 which seems to have a stylized owl motif. I would think that would have appeal. There are 4 sets of 3. One of those sets has black glass centers. One set has cloth centers. The red checks on the background cloth are 7/8 inch across. That might help ... morewith the scale. The smallest buttons are 1/2 inch and they go up from there. There are also a set of 8. 7, 6, 3 sets of 2, and 3 single buttons that don't match anything else. French Champleve' and Brass Buttons decorated w/ Cut steel points Loop Shank
I am not a button collector- but my mother was- She sewed her entire life and I remember playing in her button can when I was very young- Yes that was the sort of button collector she was- There are probably some special buttons in that can and I will find a rainy day to go through it- But when I opened one of her jewelry boxes there where three sets on buttons inside- This Satsuma pair previously listed in their own auction and this pair- I know something of French Champleve' through my collecting love- I have several Open Salts in Champleve' I tried to find as much information as I could on these before listing them- If I have made any gross or even minor mistakes- Please feel free to teach me- I think from what I have seen previously and currently posted- that the following pertains to these two- They are French Champleve' ... morecirca 1880's- They have a loop shank- The decorations are cut steel points and all are present on both buttons- With open salts- the blending colors of the Champleve' are considered to be older and made during a time when craftsmanship was honored- There are no cracks or chips and they are about an inch in diameter- As with the Satsuma buttons- I am not sure my mother ever used them- Perhaps instead of a special outfit- She simply enjoyed looking at them- I just think it is time for someone who collects and appreciates buttons to have them- These will be individually wrapped and placed in a protective box in a padded envelope- or mailed in a small box depending on which manner I think is the safest for them to travel- Been meaning to add that though we quit smoking a million years ago- we do have cats- So there will be no ashes in my wrappings but there may tend to be a cat hair or two- There are several books available on open salts and most of them are sold on eBay- 5000 OPEN SALTS A COLLECTORS GUIDE by William Heacock and Patricia Johnson- THE OPEN SALT COMPENDIUM by Sandra Jzyk and Nina Robertson- A set of ten books by Allan B and Helen B Smith and T

This auction is for a total of three(3) wonderful. Hard-to-find Victorian era faceted, jet glass ball buttons. They have a flat mirror-finish on the top and the ball is faceted throughout. What is really unique is that on the underside it has a tiny brass square center and a 4-way shank. These have more weight to them, and it is the first time that I have ever seen anything like them. They are not to be compared to the glass Czech buttons which are much lighter and of different quality. These are a must for the collector of hard-to-find buttons.
