Listing 58. 40+China Buttons. Stencil,luster,a 1920's woman's face, calico, piecrust, little white dome shape with black dot, possibly a swirl back. It does have a swirl, a plaid design, and more. Largest, a little over 5/8 inch in diameter. Please check out pictures carefully. Most of the Underleak collection was completed before and during the early years of the Second World war, so most of the collection would have come before 1941. These buttons have been boxed up for 60 to 75 years. They were used and displayed prior to being put away. Please see pictures to determine the condition. Ask questions or ask for more pictures if you want to see an additional views. We have inherited a button collection from Minnesota. We have counted over 70.000 buttons so far. They were started by a woman in 1867, who, as a child, began her first ... morecharm string. We understand she was 7 years old when the collection was begun. Her name was Mrs. Anna Underleak. She exhibited her collection at the Minnesota State Fair in 1939. At that time, she had close to 40,000 buttons. She and her daughter determined to have the largest collection in Minnesota, and it appears, they kicked it into full gear in the 1940's because many of the cards of buttons are dated during that decade. We are not sure when Mrs. Underleak died but her daughter died in the early 1970's and our mother purchased the whole collection as part of the daughter's estate. When our mother counted the collection in around 1999-2000, she came up with the total of 83,000 buttons. We have now inherited it, and are beginning to sell it. We are not sure whether it ever was the largest collection in Minnesota. But there are several newspaper articles, with pictures, that show Mrs. Underleak surrounded by her buttons in 1939. She was in the St. Paul Paper and the Pine River Journal. We have no experience with buttons, other than using them, so we are trying to learn about them as quickly as we can. I once sold a plaid china that at the time I thought was a refrigerator depression glass button(that’s how much knowledge I had about china buttons then) anyway. I got a message from someone off eBay and they told me I’d get quite a lot of pocket change for my refrigerator depression glass button and I ended up with $675.00! ... moreThat was so exciting for me that I never really got over selling buttons. I did manage to quit selling for a few years then the fever hit me again! The only thing about this is I still know very little about china buttons, but they are really neat and I’ve seen the site that has all the Chinas from England and it makes me want to go dig in that factories garage too. The sizes for these buttons range from 7/16” to 11/16” I always test my buttons for Bakelite and they are guaranteed to be what the listing states! Up for bidding is a lot of antique china buttons from an old family collection. These buttons are in good to excellent condition. The only damage I noticed was an older looking chip on the side of one of the off-white four-holed buttons(the one right above the button to the left of the whistle) Also. Please note the flaw on the paint/stenciled design on one of the matching calico buttons(the second button from the top, left side of button) One of the small plain buttons has a bluish inclusion within the china. One near the bottom right of the picture has a lot of wear to the blue, shiny paint or glaze. This lot contains mostly plain china buttons. It does contain some lustre, calico, and matching sets. LOT CALICO BUTTONS VINTAGE ANTIQUE CERAMIC on card
78 Buttons. I count three diminutives. One brown. One pink(both 3/8 inch or 1cm) and one with red leaves which is 5/16 inch(19mm) The large one is 7/8 inch(24mm) The two blue rain drops are 5/8 inch(16mm) and another raindrop which is smaller(15mm) The condition is good to excellent, with more having all the design than not. I see at least three scarce designs that I know. The dots are my favorite and there are two but they are not the same size. What buttons I put in the bonus bag will reflect the final bid but I have no more large calicos as they are rare. Thank you. discount shipping for more than one auction won.
