This is a highly desirable and very scarce pair of original matched Victorian cloak buttons(2) of silvered jet black glass with a geometric triangle design. Brass loop shank, c1880s-90s, large& heavy, approx. one inch in diameter(1" as shown, terrific period details and design, mild wear, interesting set. These came from a local northern VT estate. X We continue offering items from a consignment that have been in a Southwestern New Hampshire family for years. As we have now discovered, back into the first half of the 19th century. My consignor explains; To the best of my knowledge my family were primarily farmers in Dublin. NH. There were several generations living on the farms at the same time. Farm income was supplemented by various means. Hiriam Carey was the Dublin carriage driver for Mark Twain and my Grandmother was a seamstress who also made costumes for the likes of Amelia Earhart and Joseph Linden Smith during their stays in Dublin. Though there may not have been a lot of money to purchase luxuries' or non essential items sometimes the family was given small things for either payment or in appreciation. Up for auction is a rare set of 12 black glass jet buttons with gold gilt. The buttons have a molded relief design. It is rare to see a set of 12 of these buttons in this condition. One button has the shank missing. On the center tip of 4 of the buttons there is a very very small amount of the glass missing. This can be seen only with a magnifying glass. 2 of the buttons have a little more missing that can just barely be seen by the naked eye. Some of the buttons have very small areas of gold rubbed off. Antique Lot of 3 molded Glass Buttons Gold Gilt decor Nice
This auction is for a 3 piece group of antique molded glass buttons. The green one is 11/16" across and the other 2 are just over a 1/2" across. Nice molded detail and accented with gold gilt accents and some touches of white enamel as well. All 3 of these have set in brass loops and collars set into the backs for sewing onto the garment.
