Most of the loose buttons are white bone or mother of pearl with a couple of pinks and almost all are 2 or 4 holes. There are seven cards of buttons, from the 1940s or 1950s, all full cards except for the one with the tiny pink heart. All of the buttons on cards are shanks. 4 Tiny Antique Metal and Enamel Buttons w/ Marcasite?Steel Jewels Beads Scrolls
We have inherited a button collection from Minnesota. There are over 83.000 buttons. They were started by a woman in 1867, who, as a child, began her first charm string. We understand she was 7 years old when the collection was begun. Her name was Mrs. Underleak. She exhibited her collection at the Minnesota State Fair in 1939. At that time, she had over 13,000 buttons. She and her daughter determined to have the largest collection in Minnesota, and it appears, they kicked it into full gear in the 1940's because many of the cards of buttons are dated during that decade. We are not sure when Mrs. Underleak died but her daughter died in the early 1970's and our mother purchased the whole collection as part of the daughter's estate. It is very possible that our mother added more buttons to it, but, when our mother counted the collection ... morein around 1999, she came up with the total of 83,000 buttons. We have now inherited it, and are beginning to sell it. We are not sure whether it ever was the largest collection in Minnesota. But there are several newspaper articles, with pictures, that show Mrs. Underleak surrounded by her buttons in 1939. She was in the St. Paul Paper and the Pine River Journal. We have no experience with buttons, other than using them, so we are trying to learn about them as quickly as we can. We would love to hear from you experts when we mis-categorize something. We will make every attempt to photograph our listings well, so you can determine what the buttons are, even if we can't tell you. This auction is for a pair(2) of exquisite delicate antique French Victorian handmade embroidered silk buttons. They consist of lovely pale cream silk wrapped around a wooden base and hand-stitched on the underside. In their centers are a pale silvery blue ribbon trim which is flower-shaped. In the center of each 3/8" flower there is a French knot of metal thread as well as fine loops of metal threads hand-stitched onto the silk surface ground. No two are alike. They are both in good condition and have a lovely patina and very rich appearance. Please note that these are delicate and much smaller than they appear;the silk flower and button's texture is also much finer and not as grainy as shown in photos. They are a rarity and simply gorgeous. Listing 59. 60+Antique Tiny/Diminutive Buttons with 5 extra little shell buttons. Largest button is about 1/2 inch and the smallest is 1/4 inch. There is a button I believe to be a Swirl Back. It's black with a little crystal decoration on the top. A very neat little hexagon shaped red glass or china button with a triangle decoration on the top, a button that is shaped like a little acorn, a color that looks like clambroth, and much more. Please check out pictures carefully. Most of the Underleak collection was completed before and during the early years of the Second World war, so most of the collection would have come before 1941. These buttons have been boxed up for 60 to 75 years. They were used and displayed prior to being put away. Please see pictures to determine the condition. They were started by a woman in 1867, who, as a child, began her first charm string. We understand she was 7 years old when the collection was begun. Her name was Mrs. Anna Underleak. She exhibited her collection at the Minnesota State Fair in 1939. At that time, she had close to 40,000 buttons. She and her daughter determined to have the largest collection in Minnesota, and it appears, they kicked it into full gear in the 1940's because many of the cards of buttons are dated during that decade. We are not sure when Mrs. Underleak died but her daughter died in the early 1970's and our mother purchased the whole collection as part of the daughter's estate. When our mother counted the collection in around 1999-2000, she came up with the total of 83,000 buttons. We have now inherited it, and are beginning to sell it. We are not sure whether it ever was the largest collection in Minnesota. But there are several newspaper articles, with pictures, that show Mrs. Underleak surrounded by her buttons in 1939. RAREST ANTIQUE FRENCH PARISIENS 4 TINY VELVET BUTTONS 3/8" PRE-CIVIL WAR 1840s
This auction is for a total of four(4) very rare antique velvet buttons(Parisiens) from the pre-Civil War era(1849-1865) The original card that they came from(not included in auction) states that they are circa 1849. I have never seen such exquisite and unique buttons such as these tiny treasures. They are a gorgeous and unique shade of teal blue and have a burlap-like underside. The card says. Medailic de Bronze 1844, but I believe the date is 1849. They are a must for the collector of hard-to-find, very special buttons. I doubt that one will find these in the near future. These are probably the sweetest. Tiniest antique French buttons I have ever seen and I believe to be most desirable for a doll costumer. There are a total of nine(9) slightly iridescent. Palest apricot Mother-of-Pearl buttons in a hard-to-find size of 1/4" in diameter. The tiny card is even lovely with"Nouveaute de Paris" company name. I cannot stress how lovely these tiny treasures are. None are the same;some are flatter than others and two of them have pearl lustre wear(bottom right corner) I can only say that it is a rare find and a must for those who wish for authenticity of the era. This auction is for a total of four rare antique completely handmade buttons of the 19th century/Victorian era…they are much finer and delicate in thread and appearance than depicted in photos at a closer view. Any discoloration or thread wear is inherent with its age;they may possibly be 1860s. But not certain. I have never seen these before…when one looks at it closely by photo, it looks yarn-like in the center with a hint of pink threads, linen/cotton;it is very difficult to see when looking at it in person since it is of very fine thread.
