ORIGINAL Beautiful Late 19th Century LACY GLASS BUTTON Large Many Petal Flower
This is a stunning example of a button from the Victorian era c. 1880's. Called by collectors a'lacy glass' button. A pressed glass button with a fancy. Lacy type glass face and a gold& black painted reverse. This one represents a multi-petal flower(perhaps a daisy or sunflower) Every other petal has a crosshatched pattern. The center dot is crosshatched, surrounded by a ring of imitation faceted cut steels. The second ring are of larger crosshatched dots. The third center ring is of faceted glass. It measures 1 5/16ths in diameter. It has a very large, heavy brass sew through loop shank. The button is in excellent antique condition, commensurate with it's age. There is some paint loss, mainly around the edge. The face is in perfect condition. On the reverse there are a couple of flea bites and one small flake to the glass ... moreat the edge. The flake appears to be a manufacturing flaw as it is filled with paint. They are not visible from the top and have no negative effect to the face. I have not cleaned the button. A real stunner! This late 18th to early 19th century button is quite simple but extraordinary in hand. Called'floating jewels' they appear to have no mount. The mount is a bridge of four arms connected to the rim on the underside. Each arm has a two prong head that holds the incredible paste in place. The shank is a very small sew through made as the bridge arms were connected to the base of the button. They are really quite extraordinary in manufacture. All hand done. The buttons measure just at 6/16ths inch in diameter(two mm over 1/4 inch) In very fine condition. Late 18th - Early 19th Century Copper Religious Livery Button Bishop's Mitre
First of all let me tell you that my experience is in non-military buttons. I know very little about Hunt. Uniform or Military buttons. However, I did acquire a large collection established over decades by a premier button collector who specialized in a lifetime collection of these type buttons. I will list what is written on the back of the collector's card, if anything as it is written. On the card on this one is written'early 19th century religious livery button with bishop's mitre-may be late18th century' It is a is a two piece domed button that appears to be intentionally darkened copper(or brass very difficult to call but believe it to be copper) over a poured lead base. It has a large loop shank embedded into the lead base. It measures 1 inch in diameter. There is no back mark. I have not cleaned or polished the button, ... moreit is just as it came off the collector's card. I will leave that decision to the new owner. It is in excellent antique condition, commensurate with age. There is some slight color wear to the high points on the face of the button. Please use the photographs as an aid with my description. Late 18th-Early 19th Century WOODEN BUTTON Bovine Bone Peg/Pin Shank
This is a scarce simple wooden button of the late 18th- early 19th centuries. This button measures 1" in diameter. It has a round peg or pin shank made of bovine bone(or other material) I have not polished or cleaned the button in any way. I will leave that decision to the new owner.
