Wonderful antique Victorian 1890 era black glass buttons with brass loop shank and center six point star design with cut design on the star and twelve round circle designs along the edge of each button. And when I do use glue. You won't find'globs' or'strings' of glue on my vintage button creations. I do not use a hot glue gun and mass produce. I use only the finest jewelers' adhesives. And take my time designing just the right piece. In some of my creations I also use vintage jewelry parts. Stampings and findings. Again, nothing modern is used. Several pieces have 14K gold or sterling silver chains. A good portion of my vintage brass findings were obtained from a woman who purchased them years and years ago from a vintage costume jewelry manufacturer who had gone out of business. These gorgeous brass findings had been sitting in their warehouse for years before being bought. They are vintage. And yet they are unused. Most of the findings are from the 1940's and 1950's. Listing 170 55 Black Glass. Possibly some Jet buttons. Most are round. Many are decorated with cut steel, or applied gold decorations. Some have siler luster trim. Some have etching. Very pretty. Most of the Underleak collection was completed before and during the early years of the Second World war, so most of the collection would have come before 1941. These buttons have been boxed up for 60 to 75 years. They were used and displayed prior to being put away. Please see pictures to determine the condition. Ask questions or ask for more pictures if you want to see an additional views. We have inherited a button collection from Minnesota. We have counted over 70.000 buttons so far. They were started by a woman in 1867, who, as a child, began her first charm string. We understand she was 7 years old when the collection was begun. Her name was ... moreMrs. Anna Underleak. She exhibited her collection at the Minnesota State Fair in 1939. At that time, she had close to 40,000 buttons. She and her daughter determined to have the largest collection in Minnesota, and it appears, they kicked it into full gear in the late 30's early 1940's because many of the cards of buttons are dated during that time. We are not sure when Mrs. Underleak died but her daughter died in the early 1970's and our mother purchased the whole collection as part of the daughter's estate. When our mother counted the collection in around 1999-2000, she came up with the total of 83,000 buttons. We have now inherited it, and are beginning to sell it. We are not sure whether it ever was the largest collection in Minnesota. But there are several newspaper articles, with pictures, that show Mrs. Underleak surrounded by her buttons in 1939. She was in the St. Paul Paper and the Pine River Journal. We have no experience with buttons, other than using them, so we are trying to learn about them as quickly as we can. Lovely set of antique round black glass buttons. I believe these to be glass as well as they are very heavy. This is a lot of 25 buttons. Identical patterns. They measure 3/8" across. There are mostly metal buttons, some with pictures, some with cut steels, and others just very unusual. There are a few glass buttons and some Mother-of-Pearl with set cut steels and carved. Most of the buttons have the loop shank(see photo of backs) The largest button is the glass one at the top and that is 1 1/4" in diameter(and has a chip on the edge) The majority of the rest of the buttons are in good condition. The metal loop shanks on a lot of them are bent but could, easily, be bent right. Some have matches but most do not.
