Monumental Victorian Sideboard Attributed To Thomas Brooks
This thing is a whopper! Massive and monumental is a description it deserves. Walnut Victorian carved sideboard with rabbits and whatnot. The rabbits that are hanging are not composite but are solid walnut. Inlay work on doors and panels including the end panels are rosewood and walnut. Check out the oversized thick white marble that follows the outline of the columns. The ends of this sideboard are as fantastic as the front. Very large sideboard we strongly attribute to Thomas Brooks of NY circa 1870. Totally restored by myself to near mint condition. Will not disappoint and a super addition to any fine collection. Circa 1890 Solid oak Hand carved No key Age separations to top Missing moulding on right side Sturdy Very good overall condition, This is a Victorian period antique carved console made from solid oak wood. It is a gorgeous piece of antique furniture that can be used in a variety of places within the home. This console would be an excellent piece for any area that you need a narrow depth piece. Such as behind a sofa or in a hallway. A common motif among carved oak Victorian furniture is“the hunt” This console is true to that ... moremotif with carved fish and fowl on the doors complimented by carved flora up the sides and drawers. The drawer handles are actually hand carved leaves. A truly unique and beautiful look. Both drawers function smoothly and were created with hand cut dovetailed joints. This is a sign of proper construction and age. The doors have a keyhole and there is a lock on the right door. But no key exists. There is no catch on the left door either. Despite this, both doors still remain shut when they are closed. Inside is one wooden shelf. It is removable but not adjustable. There is some minor wear on this console as you would expect from a Victorian era antique. This consists mainly of minor wear marks around the bottom moulding and feet. The top has sustained some age separations which are purely cosmetic and do not affect the structural integrity of the piece. You will also see on the right side. Near the top, that the moulding is missing from the small rectangle section. We have called this out in the pictures. A beveled cornice with carved foliage, 4 convenient shelves, paneled surfaces with beautiful foliage carvings, 4 trumpet turnings with block supports and 6 gorgeous turned columns beautifully adorned with carved balusters. The mirrors have minor age appropriate flaws but they are not distracting at all. The top surface has an elegant scalloped front and it has 2 cabinets with a total of 3 shelves and one*cellarette. They have wallpaper lining but it can be replaced if necessary and have beautiful paneled doors with very attractive foliage carvings. Their handles are different but they look good as they are. There are also 2 drawers with dovetail joinery that have scalloped facings with gorgeous brass handles and there is a convenient shelf on the bottom. Its back is missing part of its
