Item description- On offer today I have the most charming letter rack which incorporates a small drawer and closing doors being constructed out of some type of wood possibly oak as it is very heavy for it's size. It has a lovely warm/rich patina, as can be seen from the pics it does require some tlc- I am unsure if it is Victorian or Edwardian. N.B. As this item is fairly heavy collection would be prefered though postage can be arranged ... morethrough parcelforce48 within the UK. Item condition- This item is in sound condition with some wear and tear in keeping with it's age and being used. I see no splits/cracks to the wood though it does have some scuff marks though a good clean/polish would certainly enhance it, I think the hinges may have been replaced as too the small knobs on the front as they have a couple of modern type nuts to their insides which I think could have been done much better and would look better replaced with something more in keeping, the small drawer is a little lose fitting as it doesnot have any internal slides which I mention for accuracy, the underside felt has been poorly replaced sometime in it's life- Overall a charming cabinet that just needs some tlc- The base measures approx 13.5" x 8" and stands approx 11.75" tall. Antique file cabinet from the long closed Statesboro. Georgia Sanitarium/ Norris Hotel building. The cabinet has four drawers with letter file inserts. The cabinet is solid quarter sawn oak and the file inserts are a heavy cardboard, the back has a veneer panel. The file inserts are removable. Each drawer has a slot for a label. RARE Country Store1878 Amberg ROLL TOP Letter File Document Box Filing Cabinet
Very hard to find counter top Amberg file cabinet. Cabinets such as these were used in offices and general stores. The features that make this particular cabinet very hard to find are the roll down tambour in the front. The walnut wood choice and the very early date of 1878 which is marked on the hardware. This Amberg cabinet is very complete. It still has the original folders inside the letters drawer and inside the document drawer it has the original Amberg paper inventory label to record what records were removed from that particular drawer. There is but one entry which is dated Nov. 15 1905. The drawers retain all of their original hardware including the hold downs for the paperwork. The top of the pulls have a patent date of Sept 24, 1878. This cabinet was probably produced that year or shortly thereafter as by 1880 or thereabout the ... morecabinets were all crafted from oak. The dovetailed drawers work fine as does the roll. There is no rust on any of the metal components but of course do expect some patina on the exposed metal parts. The finish is original and very nice for age but of course has a little nick or two here and there so please do not expect perfect. There is a very small ink spot on the top, the face of the bottom drawer drawer has a chip as well as a chip at the top of the recessed panel on the back. Vintage Amberg Letter File Cabinet Index No. 103 T. 3 drawers with 2 labels bills and letters top drawer has no note for drawer. Original hardware on drawers with Amberg patent Sept. 24 1878 on all of them. Drawers are dovetailed and have appeared to have been stained at some time but not entire cabinet. Both sides and back panels are buckling. Top has usual wear with stains and front nails in top show slight crack. Bills drawer shows the most wear. Letters is better, and top looks the best with some letters missing on the paper. Tambour roll shutter door opens and closes sometimes needs a little help but is functional. No key for lock. Inside folder on drawers reads Ambergs Patent Indexicon U.S. Patent Office 1875. Antique 1896 Amberg 3 Drawer Oak Cabinet Letter File +Interesting Finds Inside
Antique Rare Amberg Quarter Sawn Oak 3 Drawer Index Letter File Cabinet 1896 Offered today for your review is a Hard to Find Amberg 3 drawer antique oak letter file cabinet. Based on the information inside this was crafted around 1896 by Amberg File Index Co. which had Companies in NY. Chicago and London. It has many patent dates marked on all 3 drawers. Which are noted from Sept 1878 with the last one being Aug 1896. This particular cabinet model is labeled as: Amberg’s Imperial Letter File” This is crafted of quarter sawn Oak and is in extraordinary condition considering its age…beautiful"tiger oak" wood grain patterns. And high quality dovetailed construction on the drawers as seen in the photos. Please note: Photo#6 shows the tiger oak wood grain and is Not a blemish to the left side. The cabinet measurements are: 14-1/2” Long ... morex 12-1/4” Wide x 13” High. The 3 Drawers hold standard letter size documents with an inside measurement of: 12-3/8” Long x 10-5/8” Deep. Each drawer has a small slits cut into the top center to slide in a drawer identification label. There are 4 holes shown at the back panel where this was hung on a wall at some point but was designed primarily as a desktop/ countertop cabinet. Also at the rear of the cabinet there is a split in the wood at the top. This is hardly noticeable and had been repaired years ago. But is very strong, does not take away from the piece and it holds all it’s integrity. There are a few minor scuffs and smudges commensurate with age but it doesn’t take away from the cabinet and I needed to mention for accuracy. Interestingly. In the bottom drawer I found an index file folder(A-Z, Jan-Dec) and in one of the folders I found a E.R.B News Letter(Emergency Relief Bureau) out of NY City dated March 1935, Vol 1 No 1, a Amberg re-order index card and a US Postal Registered Mail Receipt Dated May of 1912!
