The store had been closed for over 30 years and was part of the Historical Society in the town of Cherry Valley NY This has old white paint on the outside and inside the doors are gray. It is shabby on the inside with remnants of wallpaper lining the back and sides but not the shelves. Great 2 panel door a latch on the inside to lock and a porcelain knob. This has a(for lack of better words) molding around it because it was a built in cabinet but this could be attached to a wall(the way I found it there are holes in the back panels) or even put on top of a low cabinet. antique primitive grain painted armoire press cupboard dovetail mortise mustard
You are considering an antique. Grain-painted, primitive press. I have bought and sold many great pieces throught the years, and this press/wardrobe is at the top of the list. I believe it to be constructed by a very skilled furniture builder somewhere in the 1820s to 1840s. The press was built in three pieces. The base fits together with pegs attached to the original bun feet. The body was constructed with thin dovetail joints, and the center post was attached to the top and bottom of the cabinet with mortise joints. The doors are grain-painted. The door knobs have been replaced fairly recently. I may be able to located knobs closer to the period. The back of the cabinet was hand-planed unlike most. I believe there was originally three interior drawers. Sometime sixty or seventy years ago, the top drawer was replaced with two more swhallow ... moredrawers. The top is mortised to the cabinet, but is removable. I believed the top board to have been added many,many years ago, but it was not a part of the cupboard when it was originally constructed. C. 19th Century Item# 1401IPP18-F An absolute jewel. This gorgeous two-part cupboard is a very fine work of early Pennsylvania folk art in every regard. Retaining it's original and heavily oxidized painted surfaces, the form is rich in variation and depth of pigment- the primary covering is a mix of deep burgundy with ebony highlights scattered randomly throughout, this contrasted sharply against the cream outlines and backdrops; each door is embellished with delightful yellow repeating half-moon motifs around large hearts. Beneath the sharply projecting crown molding, faux dentil molding is painted along the top in ebony over the deeply carved recessed panels flanking ... morethe fifteen panes of glass, much of these original and full of bubbling and ripples. The upper section terminates over a crescent molding that flows from one foot to the other- the form of this termination is exactly replicated in the feet of the base, bringing a flawless sense of graduated harmony in the two sections. The case construction is positively fascinating for anyone passionate about woodwork- rather than dovetailing the drawers along the sides and back. As is typical, the sides of the drawer hook to the face with a half-dovetail; these sides are nailed to the front. The back of the drawer locks into the sides in a sliding-dovetail. The bottom of each drawer is deeply chamfered and set in grooves on either side(these since nailed along the back edge due to shrinking along the grains) The front feet of the cupboard have exposed dovetails on both sides, all feet with absolutely enormous secondary blocking to easily support the weight of the case. The backboards are nailed in the typical manner, in perfect tidy rows, wooden pegs securing the interior shelves through the backboards. Most interestingly. Very Nice Antique Primitive Lancaster County. Pa Brown Painted Milk Cupboard Great little cupboard in original brown paint. Very clean, interior, 3 shelves. All pine and poplar construction. Nice beaded shelves. Set apart perfectly for crocks, and jars. Solidly built cupboard Estate fresh from a local Ephrata. PA farmhouse. Good small size 36" wide case. 40" wide overall(with cornice) 63 1/2" tall, and 17 1/2" deep. There has been a"Dutchman" added to the door. A make do repair if you will. The hinges must have broke out sometime ago, and somebody cut and added a small pine wood strip to the door to reinforce and reattach the hinges. The back foot on the right hand side, has some rot, and we placed a shim underneath to stabilise the cupboard. You will need this shim to have the cupboard sit level. This is common ... moreon cupboards such as these. Milk cupboards are very hard to find, and were often discarded as it was a very utilitarian piece of furniture in the early 19th century home. Most if the time they were in the basement of houses on dirt floors. The rest of the feet on this cupboard are solid. This little cupboard is in very well preserved condition. Retaining the original painted surface, and knobs, and hardware. The lock is missing. The top door latch is a bent over pipe clamp, again a make-do repair. VERY FINE AMERICAN PAINTED CUPBOARD OVER TURNED BOTTLE FEET Pennsylvania. C. 1820-40 Item# 1409APP01Q A truly marvelous work preserved in simply outstanding condition. This exceptional American cupboard retains an early blue over earlier layers of paint. The surface is vibrant and incredibly striking. Showcasing this rather unusual and possibly unique cupboard in a most appealing manner. The feet are some of the most interesting feet found on pieces of this period, turned with utmost precision and with vivid imagination. Beneath a series of rings, the foot swells in a long vasiform baluster over a single ring and a squat turned foot. Each is unique with slight variation due to being turned with only the eye as a guide. The door frame is made up of pinned tenon-mortise joints. The central slat unpinned, the two panels chamfered along all edges ... moreand set in grooves within the frame. Due to shrinking and loosening of the joints, the door shifts somewhat freely and must be"lifted" to close- this is a very easily restored issue, but we prefer leaving it untouched since it is a relatively minor workaround. The original hinges easily hold the weight of the door, this opening with a single round knob and it's lock on the opposite side. The interior is a series of graduated shelves, the second shelf long since removed. The backboards are nailed in neat little rows, the scratch mark outlining where to nail still visible across the breadth of the planks. The case is joined with dovetail construction along the sides, the complex and very highly developed crown molding wrapping around these and projecting significantly, giving the cupboard great presence. The feet are a rare and wonderful part of the design that. Coupled with the very fine crown molding work, make this an exceptional cupboard of the period. American Primitive Painted Raised Panel Antique Cabinet Cupboard, 19th Century
AMERICAN RAISED PANEL PRIMITIVE PAINTED CABINET 19th Century Item# 410KYZ13 A rustic work that probably emanated from the hand of a rural craftsman or even homestead craftsman. It retains much of it's original surface, the whole being heavily worn and patinated. Broad reeded columns flank the raised panel door, each panel bevelled along all four sides of the front and set in the grooves of the tenon-mortised door frame- the door swings easily over it's original forged iron hinges, these untouched and retaining all of their original screws, the door locking in place with a carved wooden catch affixed to the know on the front with a tiny wooden peg. The interior is a tidy display of five yellow pine shelves, these replaced at some point during the 20th Century and in outstanding structural condition. On the side of the case is an etched ... moremotif common in the Pennsylvania Dutch community, a"Pinwheel" scratched beneath the painted surface. The top shows the neat rows of hand dovetailing that locks the sides of the case into the plank of the top. Resting over untouched original feet and plain surrounding molding, this is an absolutely gorgeous cabinet with all of the charm that comes with centuries of wear and oxidization. An exceptional selection for anyone with a home of rustic decor. Measurements: 38 1/2" W x 18 3/4" D x 67 1/4" H Condition Report: Extensively worn surfaces and structure throughout. The paint is very early. Almost certainly original at least in part. Backboards removed at one point to replace the shelves, the current yellow pine shelves probably installed in the last few decades; nails for the backboards are mostly replaced with modern nails, though a few original nails are retained along the lower edge; piece of sheet metal installed over an old mouse hole. This s tepback cupboard from the mid to late 1800’s(possibly originating from NY State) is in good condition with no breaks or repairs. The cupboard has the original grain painted finish which has aged to a warm reddish-brown color. The cupboard m easures 38” wide. 17 ½” deep and 78” tall and is a one piece unit constructed in pine with the rear made of wood planks. The upper section is set back with two shelves behind paneled doors with old. Wavy glass and the lower section has one shelf behind two raised paneled doors. The sides have raised panels as well. 18-19th c. Antique originl painted paint salmon Cupboard Cabinet furniture legs
Rare set of 4 original salmon colored painted legs. I picked these up at a Ne England Barn sale years ago. I have no idea what they originally came off of. I suspect a cupboard for height. Doorway or stair restrictions. They were removed carefully without any damage. I see many early cupboards that may have had legs at one point and many that do are damaged. For those who have that old cupboard with the door so low its basically on the floor, these are for you. Structurally sound and great patina they only try to duplicate these days.
