At a time when mass production and reproduction defined the furniture industry, as the Victorian age enjoyed machined and factory processes in most aspects of the business, the Aesthetic Movement was a distinct rejection of the homogenized industry. Seeking to bring art back to the furnishings, works of the Aesthetic Movement are characterized by intricate inlays, complex veneer work, reinterpretations of 17th and 18th Century styles- particularly Chinese Gothic and Chippendale. In this example. We see remarkable influence from the William and Mary Period promulgated in the inverted trumpet pillar supports beneath the top shelf and the interpretation of bun feet. However, the case has an angular geometry that speaks of Neoclassicism across the rest of the surface, the cross-banded veneered doors and mirror reflect in the truncated prisms that flank the drawer- the angles literally bounce around the entire facade of the cabinet. These are given structure and purpose with the deeply fluted Neoclassical columns that flank either door and raise the entire case architecturally. Completing the form is a crest that is highly naturalistic and chip carved with great skill. A pierced and flowing design highly representative of the Art Nouveau movement. The veneered doors are match-booked, creating a circular vortex that swirls around the panels. Crafted in Walnut and Walnut veneers over White Pine. Vintage Antique French Curio Cabinet late 1800s Needs Restored
This is an elegant beautiful French curio cabinet from the late 1800's. It is complete except for the glass and shelves which disappeared when we moved. As shown in the pictures) It has beautiful brass trim on the top. Legs and handle which are all complete. And the pictures on the bottom of the cabinet are still in nice condition as well. The cabinet measures 60" tall X 12" deep X 25" wide. It weighs 28 lbs. There are a few more pictures available if needed. Up for sale is a late 19th Century Jumu Natural Elmwood Chinese Tapered Cabinet. It's dimensions are: H 72" W 37 1/2" D 22" It is in very good condition. It was purchased by me in 1994. It is constructed according to traditional Jumu furniture techniques. The doors are in excellent condition with brass fittings and a brass pin for closure. There are two small drawers also with brass fittings. Please look over the photos well. The wood is in very good condition overall. There is a small crack on the left side that has never changed. Antique Corner Cabinet, c. late 18th Century
This is a wonderful antique corner cabinet that dates from the late 18th Century. This is a carved solid wood piece. Not veneered. The top portion has a single door with 12 panes of glass. There are four interior shelves in this section and the fronts of the shelves are scalloped and have slots to hang silverware. This top section has a crown molding and reeded panels above the door and on either side. The bottom section has a set of double doors hiding two selves. This piece provides a huge amount of storage, as you can see from the pictures. This piece was hand made of walnut and measures approximately 83 1/2" tall, 42" wide and fits a 25 1/2" deep corner. Aesthetic Movement Carved Cupboard or Cabinet Late 19th Century. C. 1880-1900 Item# 130007RTP23 This is a very handsome cabinet. Every aspect of it speaking to the spirit and sentiments of the Aesthetic Movement. At a time when mass production and reproduction defined the furniture industry, as the Victorian age enjoyed machined and factory processes in most aspects of the business, the Aesthetic Movement was a distinct rejection of the homogenized industry. Seeking to bring art back to the furnishings, works of the Aesthetic Movement are characterized by intricate inlays, complex veneer work, reinterpretations of 17th and 18th Century styles- particularly Chinese Gothic and Chippendale. In this example. We see remarkable influence from the William and Mary Period promulgated in the inverted trumpet pillar supports beneath the top shelf and ... morethe interpretation of bun feet. However, the case has an angular geometry that speaks of Neoclassicism across the rest of the surface, the cross-banded veneered doors and mirror reflect in the truncated prisms that flank the drawer- the angles literally bounce around the entire facade of the cabinet. These are given structure and purpose with the deeply fluted Neoclassical columns that flank either door and raise the entire case architecturally. Completing the form is a crest that is highly naturalistic and chip carved with great skill. A pierced and flowing design highly representative of the Art Nouveau movement. The veneered doors are match-booked, creating a circular vortex that swirls around the panels. Crafted in Walnut and Walnut veneers over White Pine. This is an absolute treasure for any serious collector of the fine works of the Aesthetic Movement- it is a piece you can look on and study, finding more intricacies the longer you look on it and examine its case. This China cabinet seems to be from the late 1800's or early 1900's. Make of wood with glass door. The glass door in the center curves while the side glasses are straight making cabinet a rectangular shape with a curve in the center. Claw feet with wooden wheels. Beveled glass is in very good condition possibly lead but not sure. It has 4 Wood shelves with grooves. Might have been varnished at one time but looks amazing. Unfortunately. Very nice solid oak dental cabinet circa 1880 made in London by The Dental Manufacturing Co. Height 72" Width 36" Depth 15" Has two. Lockable upper storage compartments with beveled-mirrored doors and a middle compartment with a removable glass shelf. This upper portion of the cabinet is attached by dowels to the main cabinet and can be removed for transport. Antique Roll Front Display Cabinet "Cigar Case" Late 1800's to Very Early 1900"
You are looking at a very old general store display cabinet. Some people refer to these roll front cabinets as"Cigar Cabinets" Most. If not all, of the glass is original. The 4th picture shows a close up view of the 2" scratch. Next to the scratch is a long narrow bubble in the glass. If you look at the glass very closely you can tell that is sand poured glass(very old) I was not able to capture this in any of the pictures. The bottom sliding doors have mirrors on the inside. The silvering is coming off due to the age. I think the original mirrors keep the value of this piece by showing its age. The 8th picture shows how the glass was put in. I think it is a pine sap grouting. It appears to all be original. This leads me to believe all of the glass is the original. The 11th picture is the bottom sliding glass door showing some ... morevery old wood cracks. You can tell these are old cracks because of the way they have aged. I point out all of the imperfections so there are no surprises. I have owned this piece for about 34 years. I used it in my antique shop, then my gift shop, and it was stored on a top shelf in an air conditioned candy warehouse for 14 years. Everyone that saw it wanted it! It was never for sale until now! Dental cabinet made by Ransom and Randolph company. Mahogany, dating from the 1800's. It has swing-out trays and shelves behind the mirrored door on top. Between them is a door that turns to open, revealing tiers of drilled holes that held dentist bits. Has a working lock mechanism. A pull-out work area and four pivoting drawers are next, and below them are five various size drawers and another compartment with a door.It has been refinished and is in excellent condition. The lift off top securing a two part base divided by a sliding locking action with four graduated drawers to one side and a cupboard door enclosing two drawers over a base drawer to the other side. It is on fitted platform base with side carrying handles. Each drawer is lacquered black and the bottom drawer on the right hand part has a removable lid as you can see in the photos. Antique Rustic Pine Country Hutch Cabinet Bookcase circa late 1800s
A lovely Rustic Hutch Cabinet circa late 19th Century. It has three open upper shelves and a lower two door cabinet with two shelves which will provide you with plenty of storage or display space. Its upper shelves. Front and sides were stripped at some point in its lifetime, but the inside of the cabinet section is still painted and can be stripped to mimic the effect on the rest of the hutch. The hutch has age-apropriate wear and the back and top appear to have never been painted. There is some shrinkage between planks which actually add to its charm. The molding on the upper-left side is missing, but can be replaced by having a duplicate made of the other side. Excellent quality antique hand made pine apothecary/medicine/storage cabinet. The design is very plain and understated and the quality is so superb. I am wondering if it could be a Shaker piece. It was found at an estate sale in Arizona, but was brought here from New England. All pine construction. Measures about 14" wide, 18" tall and 4 3/4" deep. I would guess it dates from the late 1800s to around 1900. Interior is fitted with 2 shelves and 7 drawers. Each with small wood pulls. The top has a little gallery installed that would secure items stored/displayed on top. The is a lock on the front, but it was found without a key. Someone has attached contemporary metal hangers on the back so it could be hung on a wall, but I think the piece was originally intended to be placed on a shelf or table top. Looks like someone very faintly wrote the number"53" on the door with their finger nail or something. I think this would disappear if the wood were lightly oiled. Key for the lock is missing. Up for bids is this Antique Late 19thC Folk Art Painted Hanging Wooden Glass Door Medicine Cabinet. This piece was made during the late 19thC. The cabinet looks to be made of pine and it is painted gray and there is some blue coming through. The body of the cabinet is made of an old wooden Bird's Eye food crate which you can see on the underside. The door on the front is made of a gessoed oak wood frame. The latch on the side is brass or bronze. There are no spots for shelves but it would be easy to add them. This will make a great display piece for small curiosities. This piece stands 23 1/2" in height. 15 1/2" in width, and is 6" in depth. Late 19th Century British Stationary Cabinet, Maple, Needs Repair/ Restoration
Here we have a late 1800s stationary cabinet that is in need of some love. It is British made. And constructed from solid maple(possibly oak) It is quite dinged up. Ink-stained, and is missing the lock mechanism, key-hole shield, lower latch, and drawer pull. It looks like someone lost the key and had to break in. The right side door is split at the corner edge, and had been poorly repaired at some point, and is still broken, see the photos. There are also two large chips in the left door where someone broke it open. The dividers are in good shape, but two of the vertical dividers are missing. The hinges are all there and the drawer is in good shape but sticks a little. I planned on restoring this piece. But don't have the time.
