This antique china closet is a stout and sturdy cabinet with a serpentine front door, curved glass sides, four shelves with plate grooves in the back and the original key. It looks likes the left glass panel might have been replaced as there is a little gap where it doesn’t fit perfectly, but it could have happened at the factory. It is all tight and sturdy. The front door is 24 inches wide with a slight serpentine glass. It has a heavy crown molded top. The overall size is 52 inches wide, 18 inches deep at the deepest point and 66 inches high.

It dates from the 1860s to 1870s ... moreand is in its original condition. Starting at the top there is a lion head carved into both center blocks on the step out molding. In the center there are lion faces with bodies and fleur-delis and there are winged griffins underneath the shelf supports. There is fleur-de-lis carvings and dragons carved throughout both sides of the tree bark solid wood carved posts that are supported with full wing griffin lions. Underneath the full wing griffins holding up the outside pillars are maidens carved out of solid wood and below that is what appears to be a werewolf with claw feet holding up the base.

It has a couple of small holes above the bevel glass mirror on the right-hand side of the wood. I would guess it had a shelf there, but it doesn’t take away from the beauty of this antique sideboard. We used to get these all the time and they used to sell for thousands, but you can’t find them often anymore. Someone hung a mirror on the inside of the top section of the back which covered up the tiger sawn oak panel.

Early furniture styles as Chippendale and Queen Anne were duplicated and custom made during this time and since. Have been referred to as Centennial furniture. This fine Mahogany Bookcase china closet has many of the same elements found period 18th century Chippendale furniture. The bookcase/ china portion features a crown molding of beautiful crotch mahogany. Two tall glass doors with the original glass and hatched designed panes, the three original adjustable shelves ... moreinside, two storage drawers below each have their original locks and heavy cast pulls with key escutcheons and the drawer ends are all hand dovetailed. The bookcase china portion rests on boldly carved ball and claw feet with carved acanthus leaves on the knees and a lovely carved apron below the drawers. The finish appears to be all original and in excellent condition having a deep, rich color and desirable patina. This piece measures 75 inches high by 48 inches wide and 15 inches deep and weighs approximately 115 lbs. This cabinet does separate into 2 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. Each of the three shelves measures 40 inches long by 8 1/2 inches deep. This cabinet does have a key which works the doors but not the drawers. The brass inserted key escutcheon is missing on the door and the very top of the molding does present with a couple of veneer chips. Which neither of these things distracts from the elegant presence this piece has. This is a late 1800's piece from Germany built by J. Hallhuber. Mobelfabrik Munchen, Germany. Was purchased from an Estate in Northern England and imported to the US in December 2013. IT is an incredible piece with tremendous amounts of storage. You can see 2 glass doors on each end with shelving inside, center section.top door opens and works as blind china storage, lower door folds down to reveal hidden bar area. Bottom section has 3 pairs of double doors, sections all have slide outs and shelving; far left door opens to reveal stack of drawers for silver storage. These pull all the way out, you place the silver in the slots, and put back in. This is an large antique china cabinet curio closet with the rounded curved or bowed glass. It is one of the larger ones. I'm not an expert on antiques so I do not know how old. It has been in my family ever since I can remember. I acquired it and it has been in our dining room ever since. It has been well taken care of. We are now remodeling that room and we are now selling the china cabinet. Measurements are: height 63 1/8" width 45 7/8" depth 13" It is solid oak. The inside has shelves with slots for plates.
