Country French Carved Early 1800's Pewter Cupboard. An authentic Country French pewter cupboard was hand carved of solid fruitwood in the early 1800's. Galleries displayed pewter or pottery on this charming antique. Which was probably part of a bride's dowry. Finely detailed hand carving is truly artistic on this traditional rustic furniture from the south of France. The old finish is very well preserved with warm patina. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its luster. The crown is rebuilt and there are losses at the bottom. See photos. Here is a hard-to-find English Pewter Dresser(cupboard) with 7 dovetailed drawers and a pot cupboard in as found condition. The base and top are NOT original to each other but they fit well and look good. This is considered in the price and is not really a distraction; a non-furniture person likely would not know or care as' the look' is what's for sale here. Measures 52" wide by 74" high and 18" deep. The base is 31" high. Pickup or freight.

Super nice solid piece. One piece. Back portion is painted a pewter color. Which I believe is original to the piece. I am not an antiques dealer-solely a collector, so I am not an expert on wood. I am uncertain of this type of wood. It is not painted. Reddish brown tone of wood. The two doors below are smooth wood where other areas of the piece are slightly rougher. Great storage on the bottom. The top part is set back from the rest of the piece-hence the stepback description. The picture of the paint drip is of the color of the pewter"back splash" This is probably not the best term. This color in the pic. looks more yellow/mustard than it is. The paint drip is in the dry sink area. So you don't see it. Height around 55 1/4 inches. Width around 49 inches. Depth around 19 inches(the top. This pine pewter cupboard measures 76 1/2" tall. 45" wide and 17" deep. The work surface has a 13-1/2" wide board. Each shelf measure 6-1/2" deep. Outstanding antique Welsh dresser or pewter cupboard with a beautiful dark finish. A striking centerpiece for any kitchen or dining room. This piece is also practical with four drawers and two lower cabinets providing ample storage space and a series of upper shelves for display. The shelves are lined with hammered metal hooks, ideal for hanging pewter tankards or pots and pans. The paneled sides and doors lend this piece an aesthetic appeal without being ostentatious and the crown molding balances the narrow top and wider base. This piece most likely dates from the mid to late 1800's. Over all the cupboard is in good antique condition. However there is some cracking to the top surface that looks like it has been repaired, as well as some wear consistent with age and use. Selling a stunning primitive North Carolina Pewter Cupboard in very good condition. This 19th century small cupboard is walnut with a pine/ poplar secondary wood. Please plan to pay upon pick up. Selling a blockbuster(If you like Southern primitive furniture! East Tennessee made primitive dresser. The style is transitional country Chippendale(the base) to Sheraton(the drawer configuration and the decorative trim down both sides which mimics formal half round turnings) This grand piece of furniture has so much presence. It's speaks to the lover of Southern vernacular furniture. The drawers are flat bottomed underneath and they fit inside the four sides of each drawer. The top exhibits hand plane marks. The nails are all original, the bulk of them are square headed with a few of the"newer" round headed nails also original to the ... morepiece. This delightful small cupboard was completely hand made furniture produced for a long ago log home in rural North Carolina in the Smoky Mountains. This was bought from Carl and Melba Foust of Fountain City(LATER INCORPORATED INTO CITY OF KNOXVILLE) in the late 1960s. Carl and Melba were well known, scholarly antiques dealers who bought many of their from local families. This cupboard was bought from their favorite picker in North Carolina whom they visited(bringing their open trailer! every few months. Most primitive Southern pieces of this type were small so as not to take up too much space in the tiny hand hewn log cabins. From 1965 through 1971 I lived in Knoxville Tennessee and was friends with some old time antiques dealers in Fountain City, TN, Carl and Melba Foust. We had wonderful times and they were so good to me! Mrs. Foust taught me about antiques, and she was extremely knowledgeable. She lent me books, helped me look over all the good antique furniture in her busy shop to learn construction techniques and dating the pieces, and encouraged my interest in antiques collecting which has not flagged to this day.
