Antique Pine Pennsylvania Dry Sink Galley & Four Drawers
For auction is an antique pine dry sink fresh from a Pennsylvania farm. The dry sink dates to the 1800s with chamfered doors and drawer bottoms. One of the drawer fronts and bottoms(second from the left) has been replaced. The wood matches fairly well but not perfectly. The far left drawer is divided for silverware and none of the drawers is dovetailed. All four show deep groves in the cabinetry from years of being slid in and out. One of the drawer backs need to be reglued but the piece is present. Someone added modern hinges to the lower doors. I would remove them because the original hinges are still present. But somewhat undersized. There is not rot or decay to the feet as is so often the case and the piece is ready for display. It is 44" wide, 42 3/4" tall to the top of the back. Another great early piece of furniture that was left in the st one wine cellar of my 1850 clapboard in the olde iron town of Rockaway. Thought that I might be able to use it in the kitchen where it belongs.But have decided instead to part with it.It may very well be yet ano ther piece that once graced the ho me as part of it's original furnishings.Probably of local manufacture or at least nearby Pennsyl vania.My home was reputedly used as a general/dry goods store in Civil war times for at least a short perio d.Rockaway was America's leading center for iron production of cannons and munitions during both The Revolution and the Great Rebellion. Located right next to what was once the old Mo rris Canal. Who knows.This early dry sink may have even seen use in the store. I have a beautiful antique dry sink that has a hand operated water pump attached. The pump has been electrified and made into a lamp.The measurements are 33 inches tall. 30 inches wide, 18 1/2 deep, and the sink depth is 5 inches. The dry sink has been elevated off the floor buy a wood base. This makes it easier to open the door. It stands 2 1/2 inches up off the floor and is recessed 2 inches from the bottom edge. The door latch is original hardware in working order, occasionally the spring sticks. There is a small hole in the back left corner of the top, from way back when that is not shown in the pictures, but is not very noticeable and could be repaired. This is a 1780's to 1820's Shaker Style. Pine Cupboard Dry Sink with a dovetailed gallery, drawers, and top case in great condition for the age. Has nice hand forged hinges, hook, bottom latch, drawer pulls. All wooden pegged doors. Wide board back, sides, top, and bottom, some rot at the very bottom of the back boards, and some repairs to the bottom and back to add support to the cupboard. A newer shelf in the bottom part only, the rest of the boards looks original to the piece.
