French born cabinetmaker Alexander Roux(1813–1886) produced some of the finest American furniture in his New York facility. And a mirro red hinged lockable door below. W hich has an intricate fretwork border. Internally there are two short top drawers and f o ur large draw ers(some with partit ioned co m partments) Where the lower drawer contains a removable hinged writing slope with orig inal valour lining. See photos 6, 7& 8. The top moulding at the top reveals a s mall secret drawer. See photo 4. The drawers have litt le bone knobs which differ very slightly in size. Please take time to study the photographs to gain an appreciation of this unusual and very col lectable cabinet. The rosewood grain and colour looks rich in real life. Burl walnut, rosewood, ebonised wood and bird's eye maple. Exhibiting the Neoclassical features so popular in the 1880's, it has a moulded top above a foliate-incised frieze. The gilted incised decorations contrast beautifully with the many colors and patterns of the wood panels. The most striking feature is a panelled door centered on an oval Paris porcelain medallion with a hand painted female portrait. The panel is flanked by fluted columns and outer panels on a moulded plinth with bun feet. We are pleased to offer this fabulous. Old credenza. This is a gorgeous cabinet with French, Louis XV style. The credenza features a combination of Rosewood and Mahogany veneer with an abundance of intricate, inlaid patterns. The veneer has rich and vibrant colors. The cabinet is also heavily adorned with bronze mounts. There are two busts of a female figure, one on each side of the cabinet front. Each bust is supported by an inlaid, striped column and finished with Corinthian style, bronze bases. There are large, square, bronze floral medallions that adorn the cabinet. Bronze trim is applied around the perimeter on the upper section. It is also present on the perimeter of the base. The bun feet have bronze rings that encircle their mid sections. The cabinet has an upper, large single drawer and a large interior lower storage. The storage ... morearea has a single shelf. The drawer and the shelf are Rosewood. The door has metal dowels that hold it in place and allow it to swing open. These are not original and are from the 20th century. The cabinet exterior has intricate inlaid designs on each side panel, on the sides of the front of the cabinet, and on the front of the cabinet door. The top of the cabinet has a beautiful piece of black marble which has been cut to match the geometric shape of the cabinet top. The marble has white veins as well as few red veins. This is a very old piece. It consists of 3 sections(not including the marble) Both the top and the plinth connect to the center of the cabinet via crudely cut wooden dowels. There are no screws. There are more modern metal supports that have been added at some point. The back of the cabinet features hand chiseled dovetail joints. As does the drawer. The cabinet has bronze/brass door and drawer pulls that may not be original. This is a gorgeous cabinet of some antiquity. It is in good condition for its age. It was renowned for quickly bluntening cutting tools and visibly darkening in colour when over prepared. Kingwood is a classic furniture wood. Almost exclusively used for inlays on very fine furniture. Occasionally it is used in the solid for small items and turned work, including parts of billiard cues, e.g. those made by John Parris. It is brownish-purple with many fine darker stripes and occasional irregular swirls. Occasionally it contains pale streaks of a similar colour to sapwood. The wood is very dense and hard and can be brought to a spectacular finish. it turns well but due to its density and hardness can be difficult to work with hand tools.

For Sale is Stunning Victorian Solid Rosewood Secretaire Cabinet which has been scaled down either as an apprentice piece or as a Salesman's Sample. The Cabinet measures 9.75 inches by 5.5 inches by 2.1 inches. This Cabinet is a English piece from the late 19th century which has been constructed in a Regency Style. This piece is entirely hand made with two hinged cabinet drawers which are finely detailed and glazed with real glass. In the centre is a slim full length Secretaire drawer with original brass handle which all sit on a two drawer cupboard with internal shelf. The cabinet sits on a plinth with four'Bun' style feet. On the top of the piece is a hand cut acroteria with a semi circular scooped out apex cornice. The colour and patina of the wood is beautiful and the piece has a very strong look to it. William IV style(c.1835) Regency Rosewood Canterbury. Superb example of William IV(Regency) style Rosewood Canterbury with four open fret dividers providing three open storage compartments. Each compartment is easily large enough for periodicals& broadsheet newspapers. The four dividers are of a stylized bat-wing form having scalloped edged centres. Turned and shaped rails secure each divider and there are triple turned roundels to each face. This is a wonderful period example of a Premium Rosewood Regency style music cabinet and is in exceptional condition bearing very few signs of use or wear. The whole being of solid premium Rosewood with White-Oak secondaries. The open fret to the face being crowned in a carved stylized foliate design. A very fine antique. Circa 1850's, Meeks, or Brooks, type carved rosewood, and rosewood veneers on walnut case, bow front cabinet with what not shelves. The cabinet pierced doors opens to compartment with two walnut removable shelves. The doors have pleated silk linings. It measures 73" tall by 30-1/2" wide by 20" deep at center. Excellent condition: without chips or cracks, original unworn finish. The right door does not close tightly, may need slight shaving of door or shelves. Silk panels are without stains or rips.

This listing is for a circa 1910 English Edwardian inlaid rosewood vitrine table or curio cabinet with curved glass display. The table measures 48 ½ inches or 123 cm high at the back. 30 inches or 76 cm high at the front to the gallery along the top of the table, 24 ¼ inches or 61.5 cm wide across the front, and is 16 ¼ inches or 41.2 cm deep. The front has a drawer that pulls out so that you can fill your display with all your treasures. It has a glass front and top and is lined with light brown velvet. The top of the table has a turned wood gallery on either side. The back of the vitrine has a rectangular mirror which supports the top of the vitrine. This part is quite decorative with a curved glass display ... moreat the center with a hinged door that opens. On either side of the center display is a small curved gallery. And also along the top. The vitrine is in overall very good condition for its age. The glass top has some surface scratches and some minor scuffs and dings to the sides and edge of the wood. Meiji Display Cabinet on Stand - Rosewood, Shibayama inlay, bone&MOP, gilding
For your viewing pleasure and consideration. I start this year with an antique rosewood cabinet from the Meiji period in Japan, 1855-1899. These cabinets were made specifically for the Western export market and feature Shibayama inlay in bone and mother-of-pearl, plus extensive gold gilding. I would say that the theme of this cabinet is nature(millet grasses, pine boughs, plum blossoms) and spirit/freedom, as represented by birds: in flight, on the branch, in the bush, in the wetland. The cabinet sits on a stand, which has an apron of a large water lily or lotus blossom. At the very bottom of the cabinet are three, small, horizontally placed pull-out drawers. On the next level is the Temple compartment, featuring two elders(the only human figures on the entire cabinet) framed by carved pine boughs and lilies; flanked on each side with curved ... morecompartments one featuring a quail, the other a dove. Next come two rows of assymetrically placed, open display shelves, which are backed by 4 removable panels, and framed by delicately carved fretwork. At the top are two display compartments, each enclosed by two sliding doors, and framed by carved fretwork. At the very top of the cabinet are dolphin finials. Though there are a few losses to the inlay decoration, the strong aesthetic features of the cabinet(faces, carving of birds and plants) evidence the fine craftsmanship of the carver, and offer enjoyment to the current viewer. The cabinet is structurally strong. It is 76 inches tall and 54 inches wide. Please ask any questions you may have before you bid on this item. I am very tolerant of imperfections of antique pieces, and never expect them(even with best restoration) to be what they were when originally made.
