Antique Pine Pennsylvania Dry Sink Galley & Four Drawers
For auction is an antique pine dry sink fresh from a Pennsylvania farm. The dry sink dates to the 1800s with chamfered doors and drawer bottoms. One of the drawer fronts and bottoms(second from the left) has been replaced. The wood matches fairly well but not perfectly. The far left drawer is divided for silverware and none of the drawers is dovetailed. All four show deep groves in the cabinetry from years of being slid in and out. One of the drawer backs need to be reglued but the piece is present. Someone added modern hinges to the lower doors. I would remove them because the original hinges are still present. But somewhat undersized. There is not rot or decay to the feet as is so often the case and the piece is ready for display. It is 44" wide, 42 3/4" tall to the top of the back. I doubt if the pulls are original as they really used their furniture on the farm, but the pull do look old too. I have a beautiful antique dry sink that has a hand operated water pump attached. The pump has been electrified and made into a lamp.The measurements are 33 inches tall. 30 inches wide, 18 1/2 deep, and the sink depth is 5 inches. The dry sink has been elevated off the floor buy a wood base. This makes it easier to open the door. It stands 2 1/2 inches up off the floor and is recessed 2 inches from the bottom edge. The door latch is original hardware in working order, occasionally the spring sticks. There is a small hole in the back left corner of the top, from way back when that is not shown in the pictures, but is not very noticeable and could be repaired. Right side up, with the thick crown molding at the top, all of the photos above, except for one(3rd photo) display the china cabinet upside down, as it has been positioned and used by the owner for the last sixty years. Metal hooks are on the back of the china cabinet for hanging it topside-up, as described, although the owner has never done this. Both items are dated from the mid to late 1800's and pair up beautifully in any traditional Americana styled household. These items are NOT reproductions as you tend to see so often online. At one time the owner was told that the dry sink was possibly Shaker and/or Pennsylvanian and that both were in demand. They are used and bear some wear but are still functioning pieces. There is no evidence of repairs/restoration. There are no loose knobs. No broken glass, no broken hindges. All drawers are solid and easily open and close. The structural integrity of both items is ROCK SOLID. Please note that the tape on some of the photos was placed temporarily to secure the doors of the glass cabinet while in transport. Antique Rustic Dry Sink built by noted Pennsylvania Craftsman in the 1880's.
The dry sink originates from the Pennsylvania Dutch region of Lancaster County PA. It is an heirloom built by noted craftsman John Lick in the 1880’s and has been in the Lick family ever since. John Lick was the son of James Lick. The famed piano maker/carpenter who made his fortune in California real estate and built the Lick Observatory to house the largest telescope of its time. At one point he owned much of what is now downtown San Francisco and he also purchased Catalina Island. John spent several years on the West Coast with his father in the 1860’s but ultimately returned to the small town and simpler life where he grew up in Pennsylvania to work on his trade, Stumpstown(now Fredericksburg) John Lick served in the American Civil War. The dry sink is signed and dated(in pencil) by John Lick underneath the bottom of the top drawer. Super nice solid piece. One piece. Back portion is painted a pewter color. Which I believe is original to the piece. I am not an antiques dealer-solely a collector, so I am not an expert on wood. I am uncertain of this type of wood. It is not painted. Reddish brown tone of wood. The two doors below are smooth wood where other areas of the piece are slightly rougher. Rare Dated Oxidized Red Paint Chamberlain Bakers Cabinet Dry Sink Meal & Flour
You are bidding on a rare country primitive piece brought right out of an estate in Tennesse I believe. We purchased it from one of the heirs so it has never been on the market until now. It is a beautiful piece of Americana. It has the original red buttermilk paint that has oxidized over time to turn it into a beautiful greenish gray color with hints of red where it has been touched the most like underneath the handle to raise the lid. This is a 1780's to 1820's Shaker Style. Pine Cupboard Dry Sink with a dovetailed gallery, drawers, and top case in great condition for the age. Has nice hand forged hinges, hook, bottom latch, drawer pulls. All wooden pegged doors. Wide board back, sides, top, and bottom, some rot at the very bottom of the back boards, and some repairs to the bottom and back to add support to the cupboard. A newer shelf in the bottom part only, the rest of the boards looks original to the piece. The top might have hung at one time on the wall above the dry sink, but there is no evidence of this, it looks like its been sitting like its pictured for a long time.The left bottom door sags alittle. Authentic. Primitive, Antique Dry Sink. 1860's! Offering a real piece of early American daily life. As most homes had no plumbing in the 1800's. Every home had a dry sink to work in. Some were quite ornate( for the wealthy) this one is beautiful in it's simplicity. It was made by a fairly gifted carpenter who fashioned the door wonderfully with attention to details but kind of missed the square angles when the door is shut. Still works well with cast iron latch. Cabinet is solidly built and in great condition for its age! The single front door opens for storage of pots. Pans, or other items in cabinet below sink. Sink seems to be made of Pine or Oak w ith a galvanized metal Dry Sink top secured by nails. Cabinet is constructed with forged iron nails. Top right corned is somewhat chipped/ split off. Back side is made of two large ... morepieces that still show the circular blade cut marks( circular saws were first used in America in the 1860's. This seems to be the original rubbed finish. Antique Dry Sink - Great as Entertainment Center
This dry sink was purchased in Red Wing. Minnesota in 1975. At the time, I was told it was about 100 years old and believed to have been made by a craftsman of Norwegian descent. The dimensions are 55" x 21" x 31. The doors are constructed of beaded board, and the piece is very solid. There is one shelf inside. A board has been removed from back to run speaker cables, etc. But, original board is in tact and can be reattached.

Turn of the Century Anique Dry Sink
This is a great piece from an era when you used a pitcher and bowl to wash. And at night it was illuminated by candle light. This is an original piece lovenly restored and refinished back to its original beauty. This piece had coated of ugly colored latex enamel paint on it from years of use. I took this piece inside and out back down to bare wood. I did not stain this piece because the wood itself was so pretty I coated the piece with 3 coats of polyurethane. I have about 116 man hours into restoring this piece and it was a labor of love, seeing this beautiful wood come to life from that ugly paint made all the work worth while. The only issue is a small piece of wood missing from the back see the last picture. With a pitcher and bowl and a couple of candle this could be a real show piece again. Here is a functional and handsome late 19th century dry sink hutch. Basically a dry sink with a hutch top. Made of pine and poplar with old blue paint in the upper section. The finish is old and in fine condition for 100+ years of use. One repair noted to the rear left leg, well done and practically invisible. Beautiful Antique Pine Wainscot Dry Sink with converted Hand Water Pump Lamp. The cabinet stands 33 inches tall. 30 inches wide by 18 1/2 inches deep. There is a main hole drilled through the back wall of the cabinet, possibly for access for plumbing to use as sink cabinet. The wood shows great age and wonderful patina. The lamp works perfectly. Vintage Eastlake Style Dry Sink (COPY)
This stand is a COPY of a Vintage Eastlake Style Dry Sink. I rebuild a sink a few years ago and made a copy. It's made of poplar wood and oak plywood.The hardware iis reporduction eastlake type. All measurement are approximent. It is 52 1/2" tall at the towel rack. 30 1/8" wide at the top of the stand and 17 3/4" deep at the top of the stand. The top does unbolt. Base is 28 1/4" tall, the towel rack is 23 1/2" tall and 28 1/8" wide. The drawer are 23 3/4" wide, 3 13/16" tall and 14 3/4" deep and two of them. The door area has two door s at 11 3/4 tall by 10 3/8" wide. The wheels on bottom are newer ones. There is a second stand I'm listing which is a the one made this copy from but is old rebuilt stand but in beiges. Does have a couple chips in the paint. The original counter top was black marble(heavy and cracking) I refinished the top with Birch summer of this year(2014) Drawers and cabinet space in good working order. A 19th century primitive lift top dry sink measuring approximately 29-1/8" tall. 40-1/4" wide, and about 19" deep. We do not know the maker. It is in good antique condition with normal surface wear commensurate with age and use- plenty of dings, scratches, etc. but no major problems. The hardware has been replaced. The inside of the bottom cabinet has been painted red.
