Scranton Attic. Antique Country Stepback Built-in Cupboard w/Wavy Glass Doors. Wow. What an amazing find! This beautiful. Antique, stepback cupboard was salvaged from an old home in Northeastern PA. It’s made of solid, heartpine, which is the heart stock of pine trees, and is a hardwood with great resistance to rot and warping/twisting. It has 2 swinging doors on top. Each with 2 wavy glass lites; and 2 swinging doors on bottom, each with 2 raised, vertical panels. In between the 2 sets of doors, there are 2 sliding drawers. All 4 doors and both drawers are equipped with original hardware. Originally. The cupboard was installed in a corner. The left and back sides were built into a wall, and the front and right sides was exposed. This is why there is no covering for the back, and the crown molding, shelf, and shelf molding extend past the ... morebody of the cupboard on the right side only. If you have other plans for it: use it as a standalone, not built in, or if you would like to squeeze it in between 2 walls or 2 other cabinets; we have people who could modify it to your specifications(see below) Condition/Restoration: Aside from the missing stile in between the 2 glass doors; the cupboard is strong and sturdy and only has cosmetic blemishes. 1890s Pine Blind Stepback Cupboard Antique
We have enjoyed this cabine for over 40 years. Now it's time for new owners to step forward. Dimensions are 80 in tall as shown in first photo. It is 20 in deep at the lower section and 13 in deep at the upper section. It is 51 in wide. Pine is the primary wood with oak wainscotting on the back. It has had some restoration with like antique oak wainscotting board for the repair. You will need a pick up truck or van to carry it. Yes it has scratches and nicks, it has been used but it will last another 100 years! Local pick up in Chicago's western suburbs. It is located on ground floor. No stairs. We are near to I-355. First of all. Let me just apologize for my photos. We have stored the hutch at my in-laws where he is moving and remodeling is taking place. They aren't the prettiest photos but with all that's going on in that house right now, it's hard to find a good spot to take photos. This little hutch appears to be done in old ... morepine and may also be oak as well. You can see some of the knots showing through on the piece. It's a very heavy. Sturdy piece. Glass doors, crystal knobs and awesome old naturally crackled paint give this so much charm. I'm not sure if the paint is original as I do see some green coming through in one door but I can tell you without a doubt this is old paint. The old bead board backing appears to be oak but I'm not 100% sure. Dates back to the late 1880's-early 1900's. I do not see any major issues with the piece. It is structurally sound. It is in great vintage condition. Note a small area on top where you see some blue paint. I would just take a piece of sand paper to it and lightly sand it. The inside would look great painted white. When I bought this I liked the color of the paint but had intended on painting it white or pink for my shop. When I realized how old the paint was and saw all of that wonderful crackled paint on the sides, I decided not bother. The color is a soft beige yellow tone. Very neutral. Antique Primitive ARTS AND & CRAFT Stepback Sideboard CUPBOARD Buffet w/ Mirror
Turn-of-the-Century Arts and Crafts Three-Peice Sideboard(the trees you see are a reflection in the beautiful beveled mirror) Offered for auction is a solid. Sturdy authentic Arts and Crafts sideboard in original condition from the finish to the hardware. There has been two minor repairs to the piece, the first to the moulding towards the back of the case, which is pictured above; the second, a replacement of the wood backing to the mirror, which you can also see in the pictures. The key does work and is included. Please look at my pictures for a close up view of this antique's beauty and condition. This sideboard breaks down for transport into three pieces. The"backsplash" at the very top has pegs on its underside that drop into apertures on top of the cabinet section to line it up perfectly and securely. The mirrored cabinet ... moresection is also a separate piece and has pegs that are actually narrowed extensions of the turned legs that run from the upper cabinet to the top flat surface of the lower case. These also fit into apertures to line it up and screwing the brackets to the back of the case secures it firmly and safely in place. All in all. This is a beautiful piece of history and is probably English in origin. The detail is magnificent and the characteristics of the quatersawn oak is quite spectacular, even though it can't be recognized or appreciated in the pictures. This piece is 100+ years old and is still as functional as the day it was built. Fretted gallery to sop section with carved woman of Dutch decent. Two pierced carved doors with spool turnings, right door has carving of gentleman playing a flute with windmill in the background. Left door is a gentleman playing a bagpipe with a castle in the background. Mid-section has a gallery with a carved background. Two carved figures also, left is of a gentleman with a wide brim hat and the right side is of a woman with a basket on her head. Bottom section has two doors with carvings on each door. Left door is of a drink from a jun to a gentleman sitting with a shovel in hand. There are two drawers with carvings to the front There are carvings to the ... moreedges of the doors. Super nice solid piece. One piece. Back portion is painted a pewter color. Which I believe is original to the piece. I am not an antiques dealer-solely a collector, so I am not an expert on wood. I am uncertain of this type of wood. It is not painted. Reddish brown tone of wood. The two doors below are smooth wood where other areas of the piece are slightly rougher. Great storage on the bottom. The top part is set back from the rest of the piece-hence the stepback description. The picture of the paint drip is of the color of the pewter"back splash" This is probably not the best term. This color in the pic. looks more yellow/mustard than it is. The paint drip is in the dry sink area. So you don't see it. Height around 55 1/4 inches. Width around 49 inches. Depth around 19 inches(the top. Extremely RARE Antique Salesman Sample Stepback Cupboard w Minerva Head
A wonderful and extremely rare Victorian Renaissance salesman sample of a Minerva head stepback cupboard. Out of the 1870's. The Minerva head is in the center of the removable crown. It has two glass doors with fancy molding and a unique brass Victorian latch on the right door that has an inside"thumb" latch that turns to hold the door closed, as pictured. The bottom part of the cupboard has two paneled or"blind" doors, with a unique knob and same type latch on the right door, as the top. There is a hook underneath the top shelf that hooks into the eyelet on the inside of the left door. The same type is on the bottom left shelf and door. The hinges on all four doors have a pin that can be removed from the top to remove the doors. The top shelves are removable and have a plate rack on both shelves, as pictured with ... morethe four blue willow plates. There is ornate trim around the front of the doors and all around the sides of the cupboard. The cupboard is made of oak wood except for the back and the shelves, which is made of a secondary wood. The front panels on the door have very nice wood grain. The cupboard is in good antique condition, with normal antique wear. There is staining on the inside and back, as pictured. The backside has some water marks near the bottom. The paper that sealed the back panels have come off through the years. you can see this in the picture that shows the back. This is the original finish and I will leave the patina preference to the buyer. Please view all pictures. There are a couple close splits in the front door panels. There is some scuff marks in the finish, and a few small nicks, also pictured. Please do not expect an antique item to be perfect, as it has been around for many years and shows wear, as pictured. This is a rare and wonderful examples of days gone by. The cabinet has two doors, one on top and one on the bottom. Just below the middle part and above the lower door there's a nice dovetailed drawer. The cabinet is yellow and green and there's even a little blue showing through on the drawer. The cabinet was probably all green at one point and was painted over yellow. It's a nice soft butter cream yellow. It's got the old hardware and we even have the key! You can see the key in the pictures and the key only works in the bottom door as the lock on the top door is painted over. It has worn spots. Edge wear, scratches and nicks as you'd expect from and item of this age. The drawer ... morebottom is made from more than one piece of wood and they have separated. There's also a hole worn through on the right side as you can see in the picture of the drawer. It measures 71" H x 12.5" D at the top and 18.5" D at the bottom. It's 25" W. Mission or Arts and Crafts a beautiful and tall, bench made, solid maple, fantastic step back cupboard with New England provenance, from one family, with original glass and lock sets, turned bun feet, many drawers and locking cubbyhole section as well as a"fold out" section which provides a great writing surface. The section above the writing surface has two doors which slide open, expose a simple cubbyhole section, and can be locked with the original lockset and key. The three small drawers are all hand dovetailed and the secondary wood is pine. All of the wooden knobs are original on all of the drawers. ANTIQUE STEPBACK CUPBOARD 2 part/ top comes off. HARD PINE FROM A NEW ENGLAND ESTATE This Olde Cupboard/ Hutch was found in an old Farm Estate outside of the Shaker Village of Canterbury N.H. It was still in use when pulled out. Construction is Wide board Hard pine. Which shows its age well.The top does come off. The sides are made of single Wide boards- the lower front door is also a very wide board with breadboard ends to stop any warping the back is also wide board The house it was in. Had molding around the room and I guess they thought it prudent to put the same molding on the base of this cupboard- it can be taken off quite easy. My Estimate of date would be late 1700s to early 1800s- make no mistake its an OLDE one There are some traces of paint outside just visible in places- and it is old yellow paint inside. Antique 2pc 1850-65 Stepback Cupboard w. Dovetailed Case 7
Here's a great country step back cupboard. An early version with a dovetailed case and spoon notches that displays wonderfully with the doors open. It's missing a few latches but they've been replaced with turn buttons on the bottom. Notice how the top sits specifically in the notches on the base. It has a high pie shelf, dovetailed drawers that operate smoothly, and an old refinish. The style is clearly mid-1800's and likely midwest or eastern US. You are viewing a gorgeous STEP BACK CHINA CABINET in great condition. This cabinet is believed to be from the late 1800s to early 1900s. This cabinet is in two pieces(top and bottom) The top measures 48" tall and 9.5" deep. and is 36" wide. The total width of the doors on the top is 31.5" and it has 4 adjustable shelves(one is not pictured) The bottom measures 36" tall. 36" wide and is 14" deep. It comes with 2 shelves that are 12.75" deep and 34.75" long. There are three small holes in the bottom of the top piece to attach it to the bottom piece. ANTIQUE circa 1800s PRIMITIVE STEPBACK CABINET, CUBOARD, white, FROM KENTUCKY
This old cabinet is as real as it gets. It came out of Kentucky and I believe it dates to the mid to late 1800s. This old cabinet was more than likely made right at the farm by the man of the house to be used in the wife's kitchen. On the top it has ten drawers and two glass doors. The bottom has four drawers. A wood door and a potato bin. It is two pieces and both are heavy which makes me believe that underneath the paint might be oak. The two glass doors stick a little but aren't hard to open. The wood door is little loose because the hinges are old and the latch sometimes sticks. All but one of the drawers slide in and out well. The back bottom as you can see in picture 7 is metal. It measures right at, top 46 7/8" x 12 3/4" x 46 3/4" tall and the bottom measures 48 1/2" x 23 1/2" x 28 3/4" tall. This auction is for a fantastic antique oak child's stepback cupboard. The cabinet dates to the late 1800's-early 1900's. The cabinet is 28 3/4" tall. It is 5 1/2" deep on the outside of the top section. 9" deep at the stepback work surface, and 8 1/2" deep on the outside at the bottom. The cabinet is 15" wide. Opening the top 2 doors reveals 2 securely set wooden shelves. There is a drawer with wooden knobs below the work surface. Opening the bottom doors reveals a shelf. The top of the cabinet has a cornice board top. The bottom edge of the front, and the bottom of the sides have swoopy detail. The knobs on the doors turn to rotate a piece of wood that holds the doors closed. The sides are 1 board. The cabinet is old finish. There is a little bit of wear in the finish. There are some small nicks in the ... morewood on the right side when looking straight on. There is a split in the wood on the back of the cabinet. The finish on the back is irregular. Up for bids is this Antique 19thC American Folk Art Childs Stepback Cupboard w/ Original Finish. This piece was made during the mid 19thC in the United States. This piece was found on the Eastern Shore of Delaware so it could have been made in that area. The cupboard gas two doors on the top and two more on the bottom which have recessed panels. There is a door with two knobs above the bottom doors. All of the knobs have there original turned wooden pulls. This piece still retains the original finish. This piece is a very nice and cute size. This piece stands 29" in height. 16 1/4" in width, and is 10 1/4" in depth. This piece is in great condition with just three small pieces of wood missing. One is to the bottom left corner of the front drawer, one to the top right corner of the bases top, and one to the side near where the ... morebases top connects. Antique Grainpainted Stepback Cupboard - mid to late 1800’s
This s tepback cupboard from the mid to late 1800’s(originating from NY State) is in good condition with no breaks or repairs. The cupboard has the original grain painted finish which has aged to a warm reddish-brown color. The cupboard m easures 38” wide. 17 ½” deep and 78” tall and is a one piece unit constructed in pine with the rear made of wood planks. The upper section is set back with two shelves behind paneled doors with old. Wavy glass and the lower section has one shelf behind two raised paneled doors. The sides have raised panels as well. TIGER MAPLE SMALL TWO PIECE STEPBACK CUPBOARD
This sale is for an awesome very small tiger maple two piece stepback cupboard. It is exactly like an antique large cupboard. This cupboard features crown and cornice molding and also has early style dentil molding. The cupboard top and base are all constructed with mortise and tenon joints and are held together with walnut square wooden pegs just as all the early cabinet makers did. It has two doors in the top section which are also mortise and tenon joined. The doors have two raised panels in the center and are held closed with an early style turnbuckle latch. T he cupboard top has two poplar shelves on the interior; it also has two hand dovetailed drawers in the cupboard top. All the drawers in this cupboard are hand dovetailed with hand planed and hand chamfered drawer bottoms. Every piece of wood in this cupboard is properly aged. The ... moreback on each piece is one board poplar and is also hand planed as well as hand chamfered. I use an antique hand plane just as all the early craftsman did. All of the hardware I use in my pieces are antique as well(hinges. Screws, nails, etc. all of the knobs are hand turned tiger maple as well. The cupboard base consists of three graduated drawers. There are also some really neat Chippendale style cutouts on the front and sides of the base. The top on the cupboard base is held from the underside with screws that are embedded in hand chiseled holes. I cut no corners and do every detail just as an early cabinetmaker would have done. This cupboard measures 26 3/4" tall x 16 1/2" wide x 9 1/4" deep(these are overall measurements) Shipping may seem expensive. But solid wood pieces are heavy. Please feel free to ask any questions!
