Cherry Country Antique 1860 Primitive Dry Sink. Hand crafted about 1860 of solid cherry. A charming rustic dry sink has a small drawer. The old finish is very well preserved with warm antique patina, waxed and buffed, it needs only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth to maintain its luster. 19th CENTURY ANTIQUE AMERICAN PRIMITIVE HANGING CHINA CABINET(HUTCH) and DRY SINK This listing is for two pieces of furniture; A unique. Antique CHINA CABINET(hutch) with a substantial and compatible. Antique DRY SINK. Although the China Cabinet was originally intended to hang on a wall. Right side up, with the thick crown molding at the top, all of the photos above, except for one(3rd photo) display the china cabinet upside down, as it has been positioned and used by the owner for the last sixty years. Metal hooks are on the back of the china cabinet for hanging it topside-up, as described, although the owner has never done this. Both items are dated from the mid to late 1800's and pair up beautifully in any traditional Americana styled household. These items are NOT reproductions as you tend to see so often online. The owner's grandmother ... morebought these and other items from an antique dealer directly out of a freight box-car from Pennsylvania. At the Van Nuys train station in California during the mid 1950's. They have been in the same family ever since. We are not furniture experts. We believe the furniture is made of pine. At one time the owner was told that the dry sink was possibly Shaker and/or Pennsylvanian and that both were in demand. They are used and bear some wear but are still functioning pieces. There is no evidence of repairs/restoration. There are no loose knobs. No broken glass, no broken hindges. All drawers are solid and easily open and close. The structural integrity of both items is ROCK SOLID. Please note that the tape on some of the photos was placed temporarily to secure the doors of the glass cabinet while in transport. Both the the China Cabinet and Dry Sink are made of wood. With glass or wood doors and old metal hinges held by some metal nails and/or screws. Super nice solid piece. One piece. Back portion is painted a pewter color. Which I believe is original to the piece. I am not an antiques dealer-solely a collector, so I am not an expert on wood. I am uncertain of this type of wood. It is not painted. Reddish brown tone of wood. The two doors below are smooth wood where other areas of the piece are slightly rougher. Great storage on the bottom. The top part is set back from the rest of the piece-hence the stepback description. The picture of the paint drip is of the color of the pewter"back splash" This is probably not the best term. This color in the pic. looks more yellow/mustard than it is. The paint drip is in the dry sink area. So you don't see it. Height around 55 1/4 inches. Width around 49 inches. Depth around 19 inches(the top. I am selling some really nice antique pieces-with early paint galore! This one included. This is all original blue except for the wood around the top. This was replaced and painted with blue milk paint. The blues don't match exactly as the milk paint is a bit brighter blue than the rest of the piece. It is monochromatic and since it is a primitive piece.this imperfection adds to its charm. The pictures make the difference appear more striking than it really is. Zinc dry sink with hole. The sink part it metal lined and has a drain in it(so we guess that means it's not necessarily a"dry" sink. Then there's a top part that comes out as you can see in the pictures. This is a rare and wonderful examples of days gone by. We think this is from the late 1800's but you be the judge. It has worn spots. Edge wear, scratches and nicks as you'd expect from and item of this age. The lining of the sink has some rust on it. The one leg has some worn marks on it as you can see in the pictures. Authentic. Primitive, Antique Dry Sink. 1860's! Offering a real piece of early American daily life. As most homes had no plumbing in the 1800's. Every home had a dry sink to work in. Some were quite ornate( for the wealthy) this one is beautiful in it's simplicity. It was made by a fairly gifted carpenter who fashioned the door wonderfully with attention to details but kind of missed the square angles when the door is shut. Still works well with cast iron latch. Cabinet is solidly built and in great condition for its age! The single front door opens for storage of pots. Pans, or other items in cabinet below sink. Sink seems to be made of Pine or Oak w ith a galvanized metal Dry Sink top secured by nails. Cabinet is constructed with forged iron nails. Top right corned is somewhat chipped/ split off. Back side is made of two large ... morepieces that still show the circular blade cut marks( circular saws were first used in America in the 1860's. This seems to be the original rubbed finish. It is a very nice primitive piece with a cutout in the top for a porcelain bowl, this addition of the bowl makes this a unique piece for display, and the deep shelves are great for storage. The porcelain does show minor signs of wear as pictured. It is well constructed and sturdy, with original hinges, knobs and closures. Up for purchase is this great turn of the century dry sink. It appears to have been refinished at some point. The top of the basin shows some great dovetailed corners. See pics please.
