Wonderful Antique 19th Century Primitive Cupboard Armoire Linen Press This is a wonderful antique 19th century primitive cupboard that once belonged to my dear mother-in-law. She proudly displayed this cupboard in her lovely farmhouse in the country. This is piece has beveled doors with evidence of worm holes. Square nails were used in the construction. It even has a till where someone could hide his or her precious valuables. It's in well worn condition. I'm unsure of the wood type, it might be butternut. "Linen Press" Cabinet Cupboard 1885 Pine Antique Beautiful
Up for Auction Beautiful. Practical, Antique"Linen Cabinet" 1885 I purchased this beautiful antique from a very reputable antique dealer in San Francisco in the 1980's. It's original purpose was to store linens. But I took the top shelf out in order to store and hide my TV. Since the rest of my furniture were antiques this was perfect. Now that I have moved into a smaller house, and TV's are no longer big and thick, I do not have room for this lovely piece. It is way to big for the small rooms in my 1890's home. If my memory is correct. I believe it was made about 1885. I think it is American, but do not know. Everything is original to the best of my knowledge and has never been refinished, at least while I have owned it. I think the wood is pine and stained to look like walnut. It truly is a beautiful piece of furniture ... moreregardless of the kind of wood it is made of. The cabinet is in two pieces, with the top shelf lifting off the drawers. There are the usual signs of wear which give it character and signifies it's use and age. The drawers are tongue and groove and the closing latches made of wood which turn to close the top cupboards. There are good pictures to show the shelf and drawers, but if you would like further photos or information, please feel free to contact me. Antique 19th Century American Two-Part Mahogany Linen Press Painted Interior
Wonderful antique mid 19th century Empire linen press. This piece is large and impressive; veneer in a rich matching mahogany. The upper interior is painted in a putty grey. While the bottom was left natural. This press is in two pieces for easier handling. The overall look and style is understated, clean and rather simple for such a grand piece of furniture. The top of the piece has a slight arched molded top that comes together at a small point. As you can see in the photos this piece does have some scattered chipping and veneer loss. There is some missing at the front foot and some on the right side of the piece. There are some pieces of this veneer that are still with the piece but need to be reattached. Also at about the half way mark is a simple flat molding(close up in photo#5) and the left side needs to be secured better. There is ... morealso two square pieces of veneer in the front on the same line that is missing. That being said- the upper section is in better condition and it really wouldn't take much to get this piece back to its original beauty. It stands at an impressive 94" tall, 46" wide and 17" deep. This fabulous large antique 19th century French linen press had duty papers in the bottom showing it had been through Paris as recently as 1976 before eventually ending up in the United Kingdom where my consignors purchased it and imported this lovely piece to Charleston through Edinburgh. Scotland. This large solid wood cabinet appears to be made of mixed woods, including walnut, oak and pine secondary. Beautiful Georgian linen press with beautiful proportions. The linen press is perfect to hide a TV(it currently holds a 40" which fits perfectly. The linen press has five interior drawer/shelves that pull out. Three have been removed to hold the TV. The bottom shelf is plenty large to hold game systems. Dvd players, stereo equipment, etc. The two bottom drawers are very large and great for holding DVDs, more electronics, etc. There are two holes cut in the back of the piece to allow for cords to travel through. Older Dark Oak Double Door Cabinet Cupboard Washstand Linen Press From England
This auction is for a pretty and unique Dark Oak Double Door Cabinet or Cupboard from England. These carry many names. They are sometimes refered to as a Door Chest, Washstand, Chest on Press, because of the drawer above the doors, Cupboards or Cabinets. About every month to 6 weeks we find an item that truly knocks me off my feet, this was one of them. I Love everything about this cabinet. It is so well made and the craftsman that made it did a superior job. It has features in the construction methods used to make it seldom seen in a smaller piece of furniture. It's solid oak and solid wood, with some very thin oak planks used in the recessed panel doors and sides and Not Oak veneer like most. The front frame is"spoon carved" down the front legs& above and below the drawer. The top has a beveled edge around it. The drawer ... morehas the very old wide dovetailed joints used in making it as well as solid planks used in the bottom of the drawer and not plywood or veneer. On the bottom side of the drawer where the planks fit into the drawer sides, the planks have been shaved. YOU DO Not see this very often on a small piece of furniture, only on large pieces like buffets& sideboards and some dressers. Then you get to the bottom of the cabinet, it's also Solid Planks and each board has been shave- tapered towards the front which I have Never Seen this type of craftsmenship on a smaller piece. The back of the cabinet is solid boards. The frame is also"pegged" together with wooden pegs as well as the doorfronts. I hope you understand what went into making this cabinet, Pride, Pride& more Pride. It mas made to last. It could out live us all. I will now get off my soapbox, it's a Wondeful Cabinet and I widh I could find at least 10 more like it. Today it would make a wonderful entry piece in a small to medium size foyer. It would also go well in any bedroom for additional storage or as a nightstand or bedside cabinet. It would make a Killer TV stand for one of the larger flat panel TV.

for auction is a very fine. Superior grained mahogany blanket cabinet or linen press attributed to belter. attribution from a very knowledgeable antique dealer and i also think it to be such owing to the feet and exceptional quality. hand cut dovetails and hand chamfered drawer bottom and whole back of cabinet. all nails used were square nails. belter was particular about feet. the back feet on about all the belter pieces i have owned are carved and unique like the front feet. many other companies used a more simple back foot. anyway, that is who i assign this piece to. if not belter equally as good as. i really am not for sure for the piece is. i called it a blanket cabinet or cupboard or a lines press. if any one has any other ideas i would be happy to hear your thoughts. the top drawer and top are slightly serpentine. the grain on this ... morepiece is fantastic and it has a great look to it. it is very solid and sturdy and actually quite heavy. doors and drawers work perfectly. i do not have a key for it. at one time i expect there was a short mirrored perhaps backsplash that went on the top with support extensions. there are dowel or peg holes that have been filled on the top. the piece is tall enough unless you are 7 feet tall they are not noticeable. i had to use a step ladder to get pictures of the top. i know it must have been short back splash as there is no evidence of where supports were screwed to the back to support or give stability to a taller piece on the back. it is a wonderful piece in great condition. i hope the pictures show its beauty. i expect it was made around 1850 or so. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck. forgot to mention the dimensions. it is 42 inches wide at the widest point. 17 inches deep and the deepest point. and 55 inches tall.
