Antique Diminutive Punched Tin Painted Wooden Pie Safe
This is a wonderful antique pie safe in a size that would have countless uses. We found the safe in Lancaster County Pennsylvania and appears to be from the very late 1800's to early 1900's. The tin pattern is circles around a center diamond. There are several layers of paint and the current color is a grey green with white tins. I would guess this color has been on the safe for more than half it's life. The safe is 57" tall x 30 3/4" wide and 15" deep. It is in very sturdy condition with fixed shelves each about 10 1/4" high. The condition is good with an old break on the top that has been painted over, see photos. American Pine Jelly Cupboard. Pennsylvania Probably Lehigh Valley or Lancaster County. C. 1820-40 Item# 130102WPP16 This is a simply gorgeous Early American Pennsylvania Pine Jelly Cupboard crafted during the second quarter of the 19th Century. While a good quantity cabinets and cupboards of the period survive. This piece is characterized by the best of Pennsylvania craftsmanship. Featuring a single solid board of pine on the top, dovetailed along the edges with exposed joints to the sides of the case, the molding around the top is of unusually good quality. Tightly carved and pinned to the case at equal intervals, it projects over the overall square form embellished with multiple layers of molding and tight incised scratched-beading. The triple-paneled door is a work of art. Each panel deeply chamfered on the interior and set into rabbet ... morecuts in the frame. The entire frame of the door features pegged through-tenon-mortise construction, allowing the wood to easily expand and contract while maintaining control over the structure; the door swings freely on original forged iron hinges. The lock is absent and a later bracket was installed on the door to assist in keeping the cabinet closed, the round wooden knob above the keyhole likely also an addition. The sides of the case are solid planks of pine from top to bottom. The outermost backboards finished on the edges to become part of the case sides, also continuing down into full rear feet. The backboards run vertical to the case, each being tacked with neat even rows of large square forged iron nails. The interior of the case is a somewhat graduated shelved space, the full length solid planks creating outstanding depth to the cupboard. This form of cupboard is incredibly utilitarian in any home of matching decor. Great looking Grain Painted Hanging Meat/Pie Safe-Primitive cupboard,cabinet
This hanging meat safe is a great primitive and can be either hung up as it was originally used or free standing as you see it. Years ago meat was stored in a cool basement but was hung high to keep out animals. This one is grain painted in a gold or light oak looking finish. There is wear to the paint since it is so old. There are also some stains to the top surface. It is constructed of pine with screen on 2 sides and the single door. The tabs at the top have holes for threading a pipe through for hanging. This is an Early Handmade Cherry Wood Pie Safe with all Twelve Original Tins Circa 1800s. Pie safes and jelly cupboards were pieces of furniture designed to be utilitarian. They were used not only for pies but also for breads. Jellies and jams, and baked goods. They are of Germanic influence which started out in Pennsylvania. Then worked their way into the valleys of Virginia, Shenandoah, and into the Midwest as in Ohio. Indiana. And Illinois. The earliest piece was the jelly cupboard or preserve or jam cupboard. As it was named in various parts of the country. It usually had one or two doors and several shelves. It was designed to store preserved food along with filled crocks of food. Pie safes were made ten to twenty years later. They were made to keep mice and flies away from baked goods but still provide ventilation to prevent mold and ... morespoilage. There are various different sizes. But traditionally one is used to seeing punched tins in the front with a variety of designs, sometimes three punched tins on both sides. Pine and poplar were common, but it is not unusual to find pie safes made of prized Cherry and Walnut Wood. It all depended on the locality and the availability of the type of wood. Pennsylvania cupboards made by country cabinetmakers were usually five feet high. Three feet wide with high legs and two doors. This Antique 12 Tin Pie Safe is Handmade of Cherry wood with the top being two board construction. The Cherry Wood Pie Safe has the original twelve punched tins. The Wide and Large Tins have a Punched Double Sunflower Wreath design. The punched tins are attached with copper tacks and are in excellent condition except for one on the side(see photos) It is just amazing the Antique Cupboard is in such fine excellent condition with the Original Tins which have an age old Patina and a Beautiful Punched design. Antique Primitive Painted Oak PIE SAFE 4 doors 2 drawers Needs Work. I've used this old pie safe in my pantry for years. I believe it to date from about 1900. It stands 70 1/4 inches high. 37 3/4 inches across and 17 inches deep. It features 2 top doors with 2 shelves. 2 drawers, and 2 bottom doors with 2 shelves. Hardware is original. And you'll notice the lovely wood handles. It appears to be oak under many layers of chipped paint. The piece has so much character. And although it is a heavy, sturdy piece, it is a bit of a project. The corner of a door needs gluing. The grilling needs some tacks, and the bottom shelf needs a bracket. I like the paint the way it is, but it does need cleaning up. Refinishing is an option, also. You'll notice that the very top of the pie safe does not appear to be original. We are pleased to offer to the market this great antique pie safe. This piece dates to the late 1800's and has been in the same family since it was new. This piece was restored at some point in the 20th century. This piece measures approximately"high x 39.5" wide x 15 5/8" deep. The front wood on this is walnut and the top and sides are pine. The back boards have been replaced on this. It has a single drawer at the top with dove-tail joints. The double doors below each have three punched tin panels with an eagle motif on them. These panels do not appear to be original to the piece. There is a pull knob on one door and a latch on the other door that holds both doors closed. There is a picture of the joint at the top of the doors. It appears that the joints are a grooved joint. The hardware and joints are original. Vintage Antique Pre Civil War Blue Pie Safe Cupboard from North Carolina
This is a very special. Early, pie safe from North carolina. Pie safe has punched tin screens on the sides and on the doors. Unique in size, pie safe measures 37" wide 17" deep 50 1/2" high. This piece is in good condition for its age and stands very sturdy. The top has two metal pieces covering up holes in the top where the knotted wood must have fallen out. As can be seen in the picture, this pie safe has good wear to it making it a desirable primitive piece. Item is free of oder and comes from a clean and smoke free home. American Pie Safe circa 1870, RARE configuration
Amazing piece of Americana that has been completely refinished and restored. It is Very RARE to find a pie safe built in this configuration with the pie safe portion on the bottom. This alone makes it a real collector's piece and very valuable. Found in Marshall. Minnesota over 40 years ago. It came from an old prairie homestead. It is constructed in two pieces and is quite large. It was probably used as a pie safe and storage for utensils and cooking items. It has the old hand forged square headed nails and hand forged screws in it's construction. The tin pierced metal panels show some bowing on the bottom of the panels and they have the classic circle and quarter circle patterns. The majority of the wood used is pine. I refinished it 40 years ago adding two small wood strips to the shelves in the upper piece to display dishes. It ... morehas been in my family all this time. I recently refinished it again using a Min-Wax poly coating and it has a soft sheen. It has refinished beautifully. T o soften the sheen even more you could use 0000 steel wool. Thanks for looking. Antigue Pie Safe
Early American punched tin pie safe. This piece is about 39 inches wide. 4 feet 6 inches tall and about 14 inches deep. The sides, top, and shelves are all composed of single boards from 13 inches to 11 inches wide. The punched tin is in very good condition- no rust and firmly mounted in each of the double doors. Nice detailing on the bottom feet on each end. The pie safe is well put together with square nails and finger joints in the top drawer. It appears to have originally painted but since has bee refinished.

This is wire mesh or screen that looks like bright copper but it could be a blend of copper. Brass or bronze but I'm not sure. It appears to be stiffer or harder than pure copper so I'm thinking it's probably a blend but I'm not sure. Early Vintage Southern Antique Pie Safe Very Nice
This is a beautiful vintage Pie Safe that has a very nice patina and rich colors. Along the way there has been some repairs and wear. But all adds great character and richness to the cabinet. There has been an older repair to one leg, and some point-in-time the hinges were moved, likely from wearing-out the screw holes from years of use. There is wood missing from the bottom of one leg, but this does not affect the stability as this is a very sturdy cabinet that could easily hold 100 lbs or more. There are three shelves inside which are also very sturdy. Some nails that hold the tin on are loose as expected. The punched tin shows a very nice patina as well. Well. I said I'd never part with this but truth is, times are hard. This was given to me by an old couple that I used to do chores for in the mid eighties when I was a kid. At that time, they were still using it as well as a wood burning cast iron stove. There was electricity in the house but no running water. Mr. Bennett passed away and Mrs Bennett went to live in a nursing home. They had no children and left me pretty much everything. This has been in storage awhile and now its in my home. Also the shelves are NOT original as they appear to be plywood. I took the back out(but have the wood stored) as it was getting very brittle and I was afraid I would damage it. I recommend NOT shipping this item HOWEVER if you arrange for thefreight and provide me a crate, I would be more than happy to crate it for shipping and help put it on a truck for you. Otherwise, I would advise you pick it up here. I am on the edge of the great Okefenokee Swamp. There are still homes down here that use old wood stoves and pie cupbards in their homes. Set of two antique pie safe doors with original punch tin in solid condition. The tin panels have a star burst design and as you can see have some oxidation.
