It is a two piece unit. It includes two keys. One for the doors and one for the drawers. Each key is embossed with a devil’s face. Lots of nice carvings feature an Indian Princess with fruit and vegetable embellishments. The drawers are dovetailed and completely of oak as are all secondary woods. It features extensive hand-carved painted and gilded decoration, including three-dimensional canopied figures of saints, tracery with trefoil, quatrefoil and fleur-de-lis motifs, and reticulated door and drawer fronts. Drawers and doors are lined with red fabric which likely dates from the early twentieth century or even earlier. There is a minor loss to the horizontal molding at the front/right corner, but no other serious losses. It has two upper cabinets and one lower cabinet each behind single doors, plus four drawers. Oak Carved 1885 Antique French China or Dowry Cabinet. Hand carved of solid oak about 1885. This stately china cabinet was traditionally part of a bride's dowry. Richly detailed panels are executed in high relief. Columns are fluted and there are galleries. Brass hardware is original and drawers have hand cut dovetails on this furniture from northern France. The top surface has been revarnished for durability and stain resistance. Otherwise. The original finish is very well preserved, freshly waxed and buffed- it needs only any occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth to maintain its antique patina. For character, there are a few mars, wormholes and stains, especially at the bottom. Also, doors and some columns have warps due to age, see photos. There are two adjustable shelves at the top of the bookcase and then a"notched" shelf for the barrels to lean and at the very bottom there are cut outs for the stocks. The glass doors lock ... morewith an old French key. The lock is an old lock that is not easy to turn. And requires two complete revolutions of the key to fully lock or unlock the doors. At the bottom is a drawer that has hand cut dovetailed joints and slides in and out very easily. The bookcase is very heavy and sturdy and in good overall condition. There are quite a few age splits in the piece, some on the barley twist columns and on both sides of the case. These are purely cosmetic and do not affect the structural integrity of the piece. Dating from the 1890s and completely restored. When this piece came in it had chipped shelves, so we manufactured brand new ones of plate glass. The mirrored back was worn and in bad shape, so we replaced those. We completely took the cabinet apart, re-glued it, squared it up, and sanded it for days so the acanthus carved columns and fleur-de-lys carving on the top would be nice and smooth. We sanded the lion heads, and although one of our sanders got bit by the one on the left-hand side, he’s better now and out of the hospital! The cabinet is now all finished in dark oak stain and multiple coats of hand-rubbed satin sheen lacquer. If you’re looking for a china cabinet to hold that big dinner set of yours, and you could never find one, this is what you’ve been waiting for. It is LARGE. We love finding these, and they show up at a rate of about one to 100 of the smaller size ones. A very fine antique. Circa 1890's, quartersawn oak china cabinet in the original dark brown finish. The front door and glass are slightly bowed, the cornice above the door with a carved panel of acanthus scrolls with boss shield at center. Two snarling carved griffins are atop the curved pillars either side of the door. The two front legs are with carved claw feet. The back panel is quartersawn veneered, the original four stationary removable double plate grooved shelves in quartersawn oak. The cabinet measures 5'8" 68" tall by 4' 48" wide by 17" deep, the shelves 13-1/2" deep at center. Excellent codition: oak without chips or cracks, unworn original finish. Includes the handle and lock, no key. All glass is original and undamaged, the interior plain mirror is without spotting or cloudiness.

An exceptionally fine antique. Circa 1890's, quartersawn oak china cabinet with appled oak carvings in acanthus scrolls. A simple spindel gallery is to the top of either side. The front door has two glass panels, it opening to a top compartment, and the cabinet with four original stationary plain grain removable shelves. The door retains the brass handle, keyhole, and lock, no key. The four glass panels, and the two top wing beveled mirrors, are original and without damage. The cabinet is very nicely refinished to a yellow amber. It measures 6' 72" tall by 4'4" 52" wide by 1'4" 16" deep, the plate double grooved shelves 14-1/2" deep. Excellent condition: boards without cracks or chips, carvings complete. All glass is without damage, no backing spots or cloudiness to mirrors.

Austrian Antique 1890 Oak Cabinet. With Carved Fruit. Hand carved in Austria about 1890 of solid oak with fruit. This classical cabinet has many uses. The top has been revarnished for durability, the rest has an original finish that is extremely well preserved. Waxed and polished. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain the warm luster. Fluted columns, high relief carving and bun feet show great artistry. Original hardware includes a bronze pull with dolphin heads and working locks. The drawer has hand cut dovetail joints on this historic European furniture. On the pediment is a finial with a flat top for display. Measurements are 32" wide. 22" deep, 72" tall and the top surface is 52" high. c 1890 OAK LEAF & ACORN carved WALL CABINET Arts & Crafts Movement
This beautifully carved oak wall cabinet was discovered during a property refurbishment. Still being in use and displaying the Arts& Crafts Movement copper and brass tea caddy shown in my last photo which is listed seperately along with The Poems of Dante Rossetti published in 1904 and displaying many of his Pre Raphaelite masterpieces. This warmly patinated oak cabinet has a distinct Arts& Crafts style and although the caddy is dated 1905. I believe that the cabinet is a few years older. The carvings of oak branches, leaves, acorns and empty cups are quite spectacular The cabinet measures 27"x 21"x 8" Has an interior shelf and working lock and key. Each side panel is carved with similar detail and the entwining oak branches to the front, form a heart. Very charming and particularly well executed. The style of the carvings ... moreis similar to those of Arthur Simpson but as this has no certain attribution. Can be offered at a sensible price. The brass hanging brackets are in place and this is ready for immediate use. Collection from Canvey Island.Essex will be more than welcome, although despite the cabinet's size and weight, it can be safely delivered by courier at cost.
