This auction is for a neat and petite Oak Smokers Stand or Cabinet from Scotland. This is one cute small cabinet. Under the top. An arm swings out that used to hold an ashtray. I would assume it was a metal ashtray, but it did not make the trip from Scotland. It's petite& cute you could put in in any room. In the kitchen, it would make a killer spice cabinet or jelly cupboard. In a den or family room it would make a wonderful candle stand. In your bathroom it would make a great place to store your paper or toiletries. People will love it! The two sides need the work. At the bottom(see Pictures) Shoot not be a too big of a project it you are handy. The sIde that faces the wall. I have the horizontals were the wood goes in, not the vertical wood, but that would be a cheap replacement. Shipping depends on the miles. This is an AUTHENTIC DRUG STORE MEDICINE CABiNET. That comes from a defunct Drug Store in Lorain(near Cleveland) Ohio. Oak. With a dark stain. 2-Doors. With original BRASS latches. Bottom door does stick. 2 Drawers on very bottom. Inside the main cabinet. There are multi shelves, adjustable with original wooden wedges that fit into the angled grooves on both sides of the cabinet. Cabinest was made this way so the druggist could easily adjust the shelves for the many, vaired, heights of bottles and jars that he kept in the cabinet. There is a noticeable odor of MEDIcINE when you open the door. It is not objectionable. But it is there. NOT musty, but medicine-y. I think it smells sort of like an old LINIMENT. Uniform look, but the flash obviously makes ... morethe piece look significantly lighter in certain places as well as amplify any imperfections. There are a few minor bumps and scrapes as shown in the pics. The very top has some light"surface" graffiti. See pics. I say surface because they are not deep and could be removed with light sanding. Probably some naughty church boys from the past. The average person cannot see the top when standing in front of the piece. I am 6' 2" and I cannot see these marks without standing on a stool. I believe there may have originally been two additional carvings on the two vertical boards toward the back on each side. I can't say for sure. But there be appears to be some light wear in these locations. The piece is signed in the back I believe M.I. Belgium B.G.E. The only reference I could find to this signature is MI Belgium Ministre which published some religious books. The front opens and the back is on hinges so both sides open. From auction records. 2 pc Oak Step Back Mercantile/General Store/Apothecary Cupboard
Wonderful late 19th century early 20th century cabinet. This came out of a beautiful Meadville. PA estate. Step back cabinet is just under 8"L(95" and it's 85 5/8"H. The base is 25 3/4"D and 33 1/2"H. The top piece is 17 1/4"D. All doors are fully functional and slide on inset wheels/rollers on a track. The glass in upper doors appear to be original because the glass is wavy. The one side of the cabinet is finished nicely in raised panel oak. Other end must have abutted a wall because it's not finished in oak. All nine drawers are fronted in oak but the cavities are galvanized steel with wood on the back. The back of the cabinet is finished in sheet metal. This is a beautiful piece and could be used together or because the top piece is finished so nicely on the bottom and top you could separate it and ... moreuse the top piece as a bookshelf and the bottom piece as a kitchen island. All shelves and doors disassemble for easy transport. It is definitely a piece of local history and would look great in your home.
