This antique china closet ... more/ buffet dates from the 1890s, and consists of a three-drawer double door base, fluted carved vases on the base doors, dainty detail carving across the crest of the shapely bevel glass mirror and a carved fruit basket crest on the very top. It has a couple of small holes above the bevel glass mirror on the right-hand side of the wood. I would guess it had a shelf there, but it doesn’t take away from the beauty of this antique sideboard. We used to get these all the time and they used to sell for thousands, but you can’t find them often anymore. Someone hung a mirror on the inside of the top section of the back which covered up the tiger sawn oak panel.

Oak Carved 1885 Antique French China or Dowry Cabinet. Hand carved of solid oak about 1885. This stately china cabinet was traditionally part of a bride's dowry. Richly detailed panels are executed in high relief. Columns are fluted and there are galleries. Brass hardware is original and drawers have hand cut dovetails on this furniture from northern France. The top surface has been revarnished for durability and stain resistance. Otherwise. The original finish is very well preserved, freshly waxed and buffed- it needs only any occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth to maintain its antique patina. For character, there are a few mars, wormholes and stains, especially at the bottom. Also, doors and some columns have warps due to age, see photos. A very fine antique. Circa 1890's, quartersawn oak china cabinet in the original dark brown finish. The front door and glass are slightly bowed, the cornice above the door with a carved panel of acanthus scrolls with boss shield at center. Two snarling carved griffins are atop the curved pillars either side of the door. The two front legs are with carved claw feet. The back panel is quartersawn veneered, the original four stationary removable double plate grooved shelves in quartersawn oak. The cabinet measures 5'8" 68" tall by 4' 48" wide by 17" deep, the shelves 13-1/2" deep at center. Excellent codition: oak without chips or cracks, unworn original finish. Includes the handle and lock, no key. All glass is original and undamaged, the interior plain mirror is without spotting or cloudiness.

The door retains the brass handle, keyhole, and lock, no key. The four glass panels, and the two top wing beveled mirrors, are original and without damage. The cabinet is very nicely refinished to a yellow amber. It measures 6' 72" tall by 4'4" 52" wide by 1'4" 16" deep, the plate double grooved shelves 14-1/2" deep. Excellent condition: boards without cracks or chips, carvings complete. All glass is without damage, no backing spots or cloudiness to mirrors.

A very nice antique. Circa 1880's, plain oak Renaissance Revival court cabinet. Two piece construction. The top cabinet is for china, with two adjustable removable shelves, a spindled gallery below is for plate display. The center door panel has a fine carving of a wicker basket of nuts tied with bow knot ribbon above scrolling leaves. The cabinet below has two drawers for flatware and napkins, with fancy cast brass pulls. The two doors open to a compartment for linens with a stationary removable shelf. There are turned and fluted pillars on the front corners, two bun fronted feet. Includes the fancy brass escutcheons, locks, and the key. The glass is new. It is a beautiful piece with the wonderful carved serpentine crest and the gadroon or rope edge carved top with the shapely cut out blocks. It has carved pillars with wonderful detail carved lion heads on top. Features acanthus carving throughout the pillars. Same matching rope braided edge molding on the base that goes down into a carved scalloped skirt and claw feet on all four. The panel back has been replaced to protect the original mirror back. There are two wooden shelves and two glass shelves that are original from the factory. The only thing I can see wrong with it is that there are a couple ... moreof nicks and dings; one top of the right hand molding on the very top and one below the molding that we will touch up before shipping. It is a large china cabinet being 52 inches across, 19 inches deep and 71 inches high. It is in the great original finish. R. J. Horner& Co- New York made this Carved Oak Serpentine China Cabinet with Northwind Face. Griffen Claw Feet and Curved Glass Bottom of Form Company History In 1886. Robert J. Horner set up his business at 61-65 West 23rd Street in Manhattan. What made his marketing plan unique is that he targeted not only wealthy New Yorkers who were seeking to furnish or redecorate their homes, but those of more moderate means as well. In fact, the company specifically referred to its wares as"First-class and Medium Quality Furniture" in its advertising at the time. In this way, Horner took up where J&J.W. Meeks had left off in 1868. An article in The New York Times written within the year the firm opened noted that Horner reproduced"European novelties" But was also an innovator with new designs and always on the cusp of emerging ... moretrends. The feature also noted that the company manufactured all their own goods at that time. Antique American Curved Glass Carved Tiger Oak China Cabinet c.1870
Excellent condition; additional photos available upon request. Glass is original. And original casters(not shown) are included. Purchased in St. Louis. Missouri, by Mrs. Elizabeth Frazee of Belleview, Kentucky. According to family lore, her husband Dr. A. D. Frazee gave money to the Christian church, and Mrs. Frazee responded to his philanthropic habit by spending comparable sums on fine furnishings. After Dr. Frazee died in 1875, the family moved to Columbia, Missouri, where the cabinet passed into the possession of Elizabeth's daughter Mary Frazee Russell. In 1901, Mary and her husband Walter moved to Deming, New Mexico, believing the climate would improve her health. Five years later, Mary died and Walter moved the family to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, building a cabin of hand-hewn logs. When the cabin was ready, Walter sent to New Mexico ... morefor the cabinet and other furnishings, which were shipped to Idaho by wagon and rail, finally crossing Lake Coeur d'Alene by steamboat. The cabinet then passed to Mary and Walter's daughter Julia Russell, who would marry Oliver Libby in 1930. In 1969, Julia gave the cabinet to Howard Libby, her son and only child. Howard, a Baptist pastor, moved the cabinet to his family's home in Wilsonville, Oregon, then on to Sweet Home, Oregon, Tualatin, Oregon, and Keizer, Oregon. Howard died in 2005, followed by his wife Dorothy in 2014. Offered for sale by Howard and Dorothy's children.
