Scranton Attic. Antique Country Stepback Built-in Cupboard w/Wavy Glass Doors. Wow. What an amazing find! This beautiful. Antique, stepback cupboard was salvaged from an old home in Northeastern PA. It’s made of solid, heartpine, which is the heart stock of pine trees, and is a hardwood with great resistance to rot and warping/twisting. It has 2 swinging doors on top. Each with 2 wavy glass lites; and 2 swinging doors on bottom, each with 2 raised, vertical panels. In between the 2 sets of doors, there are 2 sliding drawers. All 4 doors and both drawers are equipped with original hardware. Originally. The cupboard was installed in a corner. The left and back sides were built into a wall, and the front and right sides was exposed. This is why there is no covering for the back, and the crown molding, shelf, and shelf molding extend past the ... morebody of the cupboard on the right side only. If you have other plans for it: use it as a standalone, not built in, or if you would like to squeeze it in between 2 walls or 2 other cabinets; we have people who could modify it to your specifications(see below) Condition/Restoration: Aside from the missing stile in between the 2 glass doors; the cupboard is strong and sturdy and only has cosmetic blemishes. An antique Walnut Cabinet with Glass Doors on the front. With both shelf and drawer space, circa 1850. We are pleased to present this antique Walnut Cabinet for your consideration. It features four adjustable shelves in the interior(plus one at the bottom that is not adjustable) In addition. There are two drawers at the bottom. The shelves are protected behind two glass doors, which makes this piece ideal for use as a display cabinet or book shelf needing dust protection for the contents. Ornate wood trim is found over the upper portions of both doors. The shelf adjustment system is shown as an inset to our picture#5. A small board fits into slots found at the front and back. The board then provides support for the shelf above. The two large doors have a locking mechanism. But the key appears built in. It does not look like it is original ... moreto the piece. The trim plate on the lock is free to spin around, but in good physical shape(it needs to be secured with a couple of small nails) The two lower pieces of glass show substantial"ripple" Typical of antique glass production. It is much less obvious on the upper two pieces, and we guess that they were replaced more recently. The trim over the upper glass has some splits and shade differences, suggesting repairs or replacements have been made. The drawers at the bottom appear to have their original hardware. Each has a large lock mechanism in the center. But we do not have the matching key. Handles are quite heavy and substantial, with large ornate plates behind the handles. The fronts of the drawers are covered with a beautiful Birds Eye Maple veneer, which shows some small chips around the edges. Dovetail joints are found at the front, with more of a box style joint found at the back(see pictures#8 and#9 for close up detail) The Cabinet measures 78 inches high(68 inches exclusive of the trim piece at the back edge of the top. Antiques, Old Coins York PA. we shined it up in 2014 with a little wax and that's all it needed. It is a wonderful deep rich honey color. Cup Boards like this are always tough to measure. Hopefully we didn't forget anything. It will fit in a corner where both walls are a min. of 38-1/2" Across the widest part of the front is 55" It is 88-1/2" tall. It will stick out about 32" from the corner of the wall to front face. 2 doors with 6 panes of old wavy glass. The glazing is good. ... moreBut not perfect. All the glass is in there soundly. Inside the top, there are 2 fixed shelves plus the bottom(so let's call it 3 shelves) Space between each is 18" 11-1/2" and 14-1/2" with a depth inside of 20" and the center back panel is 16" across. Shelves are 1" thick with 2 groves on the sides for plates. The center shelf has cut outs for hanging 12 spoons, neat detail. The bottom section houses 2 drawers. Inside measurements are 12" wide x 3" deep. You can see in the pics the huge dovetail construction. The backs of the drawers are angled to get a little more space. Sorry ran out of ebay pics to show that. The bottom has a 1" thick center shelf plus bottom of course. 12-1/2" and 12" height on these spaces. As you can see in the pics. The cabinet is in nice condition with lots of age and some minor flaws. certainly from turn of the century or earlier. We have paperwork and a b&w photo from 1942 that shows the transfer sale of this piece on Sept 12 1942 to Mr. Earl Bean of Pikesville, MD. Sorry we don't know its original owner. Glass measures approx. 13" X 8" Comes with all hardware shown. Overall great condition, last two photos show the piece of wood that stops the doors from swinging in at one time was repaired, barely noticeable but worth mentioning.
