The original Larkin Brown Paper label is still attached on the back and it has not been refinished- it expresses directions for the care of the cabinet and identifies the piece as coming from Larkin Co. Buffalo N.Y. Factory no. 15 and a premium item produced circa 1895. This particular piece has a latch door opening to 4 shelves inside. This beautiful cabinet appears to have its rich original finish. The original wood pulls on the drawer with period dove-tailed ends, and also has hidden casters intact on the base with a chamfered back. The lock is intact on the door but the key provided just aids in opening the door and does not work the lock. This 1800s Music Cabinet is about 40 in. high. 19 in. wide, and 14 ½ in. deep overall. The top has a gallery with a useable surface of 17 in. wide and 13 in. deep. The Marble Top was made to fit as a custom addition, probably when the top finish showed some wear. Made of hardwood, it has an oval beveled mirror that is in good condition overall with some small age flaws. The key and lock work and the single drawer has a brass pull with an elegant Morning Glory design. Two original shelves are included with a newer plywood shelve available. The cabinet is in good used condition. It is sturdy and ready to use. The original finish is in good condition with a nice patina. There are small marks, and scuffs appropriate for its age. William IV style(c.1835) Regency Rosewood Canterbury. Superb example of William IV(Regency) style Rosewood Canterbury with four open fret dividers providing three open storage compartments. Each compartment is easily large enough for periodicals& broadsheet newspapers. The four dividers are of a stylized bat-wing form having scalloped edged centres. Turned and shaped rails secure each divider and there are triple turned roundels to each face. This is a wonderful period example of a Premium Rosewood Regency style music cabinet and is in exceptional condition bearing very few signs of use or wear. The whole being of solid premium Rosewood with White-Oak secondaries. The open fret to the face being crowned in a carved stylized foliate design. The concave skirting incorporates a full width cushion shaped‘phantom’ or‘secret’ drawer constructed ... morewith fine feather dovetail joints and White-Oak liner. This beautiful piece appears to have its rich original finish. The original beveled mirror, lovely turned finials, rosettes and a beautiful pierced carved gallery. Detailed carvings of a horn and sheet music adorn the top door with additional scroll and foliate carvings on the double doors below. There is a key that works the lock on the pull out portion but the key for the doors at the base just aids in opening the doors as the lock appears stuck. This cabinet does dis-assemble into 3 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving.
