Very Unusual & Petite Oak Smokers - Candle Stand Cabinet Cupboard From Scotland
This auction is for a neat and petite Oak Smokers Stand or Cabinet from Scotland. This is one cute small cabinet. Under the top. An arm swings out that used to hold an ashtray. I would assume it was a metal ashtray, but it did not make the trip from Scotland. It's petite& cute you could put in in any room. In the kitchen, it would make a killer spice cabinet or jelly cupboard. In a den or family room it would make a wonderful candle stand. In your bathroom it would make a great place to store your paper or toiletries. Again, it could go in any room from your kitchen to your bathroom, you just have to let your imagination run wild for the many uses of this little cabinet. It has a Honey Oak Patina to it and I believe the finish is original to the unit. It is 8 3/4" wide. 7" deep and 25 1/4" tall overall. The open area ... moreunder the top is 7 5/8" wide. 6 1/2" deep and 7 1/2" high. The door is 7 1/2" wide and 14" tall. It has some blemishes to the finish(light or dark spots or marks) as well as some nicks. Dings and scratches but is in overall good condition and ready to set out and use. Somewhere down the line a nail through the side of the cabinet into the bottom, split out some chips of oak, I found the pieces and glued them back into place. Antique English Oak Smoker's Cabinet with Bevelled Glass Doors and a Secret Compartment Drawer Circa: 1890's or earlier This is an Incredible Oak Cabinet. It was bought in the early 1980's from an antique store that labeled it a"Smoker's Cabinet from the late 1800's" The Work is Very High Quality. The Bevelled glass is Gorgeous! The Top drawer has a False Bottom and the door on this side has 2 latches. That hold it in place. There is a Key hole, but we do not have the key. Beautiful Design with the Brass Rods and Dangle Latch. This is an Old Piece-and the Condition is Spectacular. Size: 17 inches wide by 6 3/4 inches deep by 1 6 1/4 inches tall. Condition: Overall Excellent- Trying to list everything seen) Everything works well and latches tight- they latches have etched the wood a bit. It has a few nail holes ... moreand some overall age wear to the doors and the inside. There are some light bottle stains on the open side. On the inside of each of the doors- there is a black fillet- 2 of these pieces are missing(one has been replaced with a framers insert) But it doesn't affect the glass. It is still securely in place. Originally made as a smoking cabinet It measures approx 11.5 inches tall by approx 13 inches wide with the pipe flaps down by approx 8 inches deep A cabinet has double doors. Two single drawers and a full width drawer. It has rack on the back wall with places for pipes etc and a larger shelf that would have been used for the tobacco jar to stand on. These shelves can obviously be used for other things if you just want a cabinet for general use. This cabinet is a good quality old piece with a lift up lid and a solid oak back. Not the cheaper softwood back, as shown. The cabinet has a lock but no key I am afraid The drawers are made with mahogany sides and are in good order ... moreand comes with button handles. The drawers are in good order with secure joints. There only major fault I can find is that the top right hand hinge could do with replacing as it has been strained at some time in the past. The cabinet weighs just over 4kgs( approx 9 pounds) This is not a new piece and as such will shows signs of use from its previous life.
