Seeking to bring art back to the furnishings, works of the Aesthetic Movement are characterized by intricate inlays, complex veneer work, reinterpretations of 17th and 18th Century styles- particularly Chinese Gothic and Chippendale. In this example. We see remarkable influence from the William and Mary Period promulgated in the inverted trumpet pillar supports beneath the top shelf and the interpretation of bun feet. However, the case has an angular geometry that speaks of Neoclassicism across the rest of the surface, the cross-banded veneered doors and mirror reflect in the truncated prisms that flank the drawer- the angles literally bounce around the entire facade of the cabinet. AMERICAN PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH SOLID WALNUT CORNER CUPBOARD CABINET CIRCA 1820
This is an antique Pennsylvania Dutch solid walnut corner cupboard with two glazed(glass) doors that dates to the 1820's. It is mostly original including the front and back. The back has 14" wide lapped pine boards with the appropriate saw markings and cut nails. There are some newer nails(probably late 1800's) added to supplement the original nails. The bottom and shelves are cut from single solid pieces of wood(17" wide) And the upper shelf has grooves cut into them to prevent the dishes from slipping when stood upright. It features hand-made crown moulding. Two glazed doors with six panes of original wavy glass in each and two solid lower doors. The glass is held in with putty. It has a wonderful scalloped lower apron and the original iron hinges. There is a single drawer in the front with wide bevel bottom and wide hand-cut ... moredove-tails. The wooden knob is held in place be a hand cut screw. Although the original wooden clips are still in place to keep the left upper and lower doors shut, there have been 4 magnetic latches installed inside to keep all doors closed. These can easily be removed if desired. I do not see any maker's marks on the piece at all, but what appears to be the name"Bolton" is written in chalk in cursive on the bottom of the cupboard. The cupboard stands 87" tall and fits into a 32" corner. It is 52" wide and 21-1/4" deep overall(at the crown moulding) And 49" wide and 19" deep. You are considering. In my opinion, and early primitive, walnut, tobacco dryer. If I am wrong, feel free to chime in as this is the first one I have ever seen. Its not a pie safe or jelly cupboard as the are no shelves. It is not a smoker as the wood is not charred. The bottom boards can be stacked or removed to increase air flow in addition to the side screen and the chimney. There are many slats for hanging the tobacco plants along with the runners to hange the slats. I am sure it is walnut. It is a really solid and heavy piece with a ton of age/character. You can inspect it during the auction in Granville, OH. I will not ship this piece. I may deliver it a short distance for a fee. HUGE antique walnut corner cupboard w paned glass doors above solid wood doors
This is a gorgeous corner cupboard that measures 78" X 52" The glass in the two upper doors is wavy which attests to its age. The finish is smooth and there are no defects anywhere. The hardware is original. There are two shelves in the upper door area and one in the lower door area. The cupboard is part of my parents' estate. They always prized this piece after years of being antique collectors and dealers. Dad lit the interior with mini lights to highlight his display of historical china. At a time when mass production and reproduction defined the furniture industry, as the Victorian age enjoyed machined and factory processes in most aspects of the business, the Aesthetic Movement was a distinct rejection of the homogenized industry. Seeking to bring art back to the furnishings, works of the Aesthetic Movement are characterized by intricate inlays, complex veneer work, reinterpretations of 17th and 18th Century styles- particularly Chinese Gothic and Chippendale. A large double door, chest like, server carved to the max, and a raised top two door cabinet featuring original antique leaded stained glass windows. The carvings are exquisite, as the photos will attest. On top piece there are lion heads on top corners with brass rings in their jaws, below are bearded fantasy men, and right below them are angel heads flying on wings, and strecher is decorated with what is best described fish-scales and shells adorn the sides. Top of cupboard has a very nice curved crown molding all over two tall glazed doors with a large turned walnut knob and keyhole escutcheon. Inside are adjustable shelves. Below the glazed doors are 3 small drawers with clipped corner rectangular panels with crotch veneer. Not burl veneer. All have turned walnut drawer pulls. This part is removeable from the bottom section. The bottom cupboard base which sticks out 6" from the top has two drawers with 2 each turned walnut drawer pulls, walnut keyhole escutcheons and the same clipped corner rectangular panels with crotch veneer. Single shelf in base. All this is over the cupboard base with two doors with rectangular recessed panels with curved top and bottom stiles. Kentucky Walnut Corner Cupboard, c. 1830
This is a Kentucky made walnut corner cupboard originally from Canewood Farm in Bourbon County. I purchased it from Loch Lea Antiques in Paris. Kentucky some twenty years ago. This piece stands 83" tall and is 40 1/2" across the front. It has matching dentil molding across both the cornice and base. There has been restoration to the base and the piece has been refinished. You are considering an antique primitive solid walnut mercantile cupboard complete with sliding double doors. Two bin doors, three bins and shelves with plate groves. The sugar bin used to be lockable, but the lock is long gone. It is a beautiful piece. It is solid, heavy and quite unique. It is the nicest piece I have come across in a long time. Based on information from a friend who I consider to be a expert, I date this piece from the 1810s or 1820s. It may have been refinished at some point many, many years ago. An antique Walnut Cabinet with Glass Doors on the front. With both shelf and drawer space, circa 1850. We are pleased to present this antique Walnut Cabinet for your consideration. It features four adjustable shelves in the interior(plus one at the bottom that is not adjustable) In addition. There are two drawers at the bottom. The shelves are protected behind two glass doors, which makes this piece ideal for use as a display cabinet or book shelf needing dust protection for the contents. Ornate wood trim is found over the upper portions of both doors. The shelf adjustment system is shown as an inset to our picture#5. A small board fits into slots found at the front and back. The board then provides support for the shelf above. The two large doors have a locking mechanism. But the key appears built in. It does not look like it is original ... moreto the piece. The trim plate on the lock is free to spin around, but in good physical shape(it needs to be secured with a couple of small nails) The two lower pieces of glass show substantial"ripple" Typical of antique glass production. It is much less obvious on the upper two pieces, and we guess that they were replaced more recently. The trim over the upper glass has some splits and shade differences, suggesting repairs or replacements have been made. The drawers at the bottom appear to have their original hardware. Each has a large lock mechanism in the center. But we do not have the matching key. Handles are quite heavy and substantial, with large ornate plates behind the handles. The fronts of the drawers are covered with a beautiful Birds Eye Maple veneer, which shows some small chips around the edges. Dovetail joints are found at the front, with more of a box style joint found at the back(see pictures#8 and#9 for close up detail) The Cabinet measures 78 inches high(68 inches exclusive of the trim piece at the back edge of the top. This is a late Victorian Burr Walnut Table Top Cabinet. Which is enclosed by two arched panel doors, and is set on a plinth base with two internal shelves and a working lock. The lock has been serviced and repaired by a reputable locksmith. And is comprised of a bolt mechanism to the top of the left door with lock and key on the other as shown on the photograph. European Walnut Step Back Cupboard from the Victorian era. Incredible ornate hand carved floral motifs on doors. Glass and crown. There are 2 tiny tips of leaves that are broken off on glass motif as well as a little separation in a vine. It has inlaid inch squares of walnut on top, above the drawers. It is 9 feet, 11inches tall and comes in 2 pieces. Outstanding!

walnut corner cupboard three piece 9'+ tall unusual
In over 30 years in the antique business I have never seen a corner cupboard like this. It is in three sections and a little over 9 feet tall. Although a real eye catcher with all three sections. It could be used with two and then hang the top section. Beautiful carved trim, great key hole decoration,square nailed, hidden compartments and drawers. I tried to photograph the way each of the top two cabinets will slide the back to reveal hidden compartments. There are also drawers in the bottom section. The base is about 55" across. No shipping. This is a very rare Salesman Sample Walnut STEPBACK CUPBOARD with original glass. This is a great piece of furniture and we are very hopeful that this piece can be added to a collection or display as it deserves. The piece is in excellent condition and is a beauty. LARGE VERY ORNATE ANTIQUE JELLY CUPBOARD WALNUT BACK SPLASH
Here is a beautiful antique back splash that came off a jelly cupboard. The jelly cupboard set on a dirt floor in a farm basement for many years and was beyond repair but this back splash is nice other than some normal wear, its end point on its left side has a small piece off its tip and a small piece of molding missing from its right side below the ginger bread plus notice the ginger bread there also has a few cracks but all is nice and tight and I added close ups of those. This measures long across its base 45 inches then from its base to its top is 14 3/8 inches and it has beautiful patina. Selling a stunning primitive North Carolina Pewter Cupboard in very good condition. This 19th century small cupboard is walnut with a pine/ poplar secondary wood. Please plan to pay upon pick up. Selling a blockbuster(If you like Southern primitive furniture! East Tennessee made primitive dresser. The style is transitional country Chippendale(the base) to Sheraton(the drawer configuration and the decorative trim down both sides which mimics formal half round turnings) This grand piece of furniture has so much presence. It's speaks to the lover of Southern vernacular furniture. The drawers are flat bottomed underneath and they fit inside the four sides of each drawer. The top exhibits hand plane marks. The nails are all original, the bulk of them are square headed with a few of the"newer" round headed nails also original to the ... morepiece. This delightful small cupboard was completely hand made furniture produced for a long ago log home in rural North Carolina in the Smoky Mountains. This was bought from Carl and Melba Foust of Fountain City(LATER INCORPORATED INTO CITY OF KNOXVILLE) in the late 1960s. Carl and Melba were well known, scholarly antiques dealers who bought many of their from local families. This cupboard was bought from their favorite picker in North Carolina whom they visited(bringing their open trailer! every few months. Most primitive Southern pieces of this type were small so as not to take up too much space in the tiny hand hewn log cabins. From 1965 through 1971 I lived in Knoxville Tennessee and was friends with some old time antiques dealers in Fountain City, TN, Carl and Melba Foust. We had wonderful times and they were so good to me! Mrs. Foust taught me about antiques, and she was extremely knowledgeable. She lent me books, helped me look over all the good antique furniture in her busy shop to learn construction techniques and dating the pieces, and encouraged my interest in antiques collecting which has not flagged to this day.
