Circa 1980 Red leather Discoloration and crackling to arm rests Crackling to wings Mahogany legs Sturdy and strong, This is a truly wonderful vintage wing back arm chair made from a lovely selection of buttoned red leather. The chair originated in England and was made there sometime around 1980. The seating area on this wing back measures 19″ wide and 22″ deep. The seat is 18.5″ from the floor and the arm rests are 23″ from the floor. You can remove the cushion for easy cleaning. Perhaps the most striking ... morefeature of this chair is the gorgeous red leather. It is a semi-aniline dyed leather that has aged quite well over the years resulting in the leather having the optimal look that will last for many years to come. At the bottom are Queen Anne feet done in mahogany. These feet compliment the shaped wing backs and arm rests quite well. Finally. Rows of brass brads provide some contrast to the leather around various lines of the chair. Both arm rests display some discoloration and minor crackling primarily on the right arm. We have captured this in the photos for you. You will also see some minor crackling on the wings. Just above the arm rests. The leather has recently been reconditioned and as long as it is conditioned regularly(about twice a year) the crackling should not worsen. We have also included an image of some light indentations in the seat cushion that can only be seen in certain lights and that we do not feel detract from the piece. Up for auction is a beautiful chair called the Wing Chair. Style number 261-TS. By the Biggs Antique Furniture Company of Richmond. Virginia. The Biggs Company. Which was started in 1890. Was the South’s leader in Authentic Colonial Reproduction furniture. In addition to the Biggs line they were also the exclusive makers ... moreof furniture for Independence Hall. Old Sturbridge Village and Thomas Jefferson. In 1975 the company was purchased by General Interiors which also owned the Kittinger Furniture Company of Buffalo. New York along with many other fine furniture companies. During the late 1970’s to early 1980’s the Biggs piece were still made in Richmond but became known as the“ Old Dominion” line under the Kittinger label. Later the factory was closed down in Richmond and all the pieces were made in Buffalo. In 1990. Kittinger closed the craft house in Richmond and in 1992 went out of business completely. This Wing Chair shows off the Queen Anne style of the classic Colonial period. The chair is made of solid mahogany, has a tight seat with brocade upholstery and is in untouched original condition. The wood has a beautiful brown finish with Queen Anne front legs. A stretcher base and thick slant back legs. The wood is in very good condition with normal wear for its age and no major damage or any repairs.
