The teak ply seats have nice and suttle curves, the chair back top rails are solid dark teak, almost looking like rosewood, but I am told they are a dark teakwood, as some would refer to an African teak, if there is such a species. These chairs are alll in excellent vintage condition. There are some light scratches and wear to black spindles and legs, but overall are in very good condition considering age, and ready to use. Approximate Dimensions: 18” Wide x 19” Deep x 37” High Seat Height: 18-1/2” Striking chairs with a clever design that exploits the part of the dining chair most visible—the back! They will look fantastic tucked into a long rectangular table. The upholstered backrest and seat appear to“float” with no discernible frame. The nailhead detail at the back of the chairs adds another element of sophistication. These chairs have no maker’s mark but are reminiscent of Dunbar or items of Danish origin and certainly represent superior design of the Mid Century period. The wood APPEARS to be teak but could possibly be walnut; this is my educated guess. I am not 100% certain. They were originally purchased from an antique shop in Connecticut. Condition: These ... morechairs need improvements to help bring them back to full glory. The wood backs and legs need a good sanding. And refinishing, gaps filled etc. Silk upholstery is soiled throughout and needs to be replaced. The joining of the seats to the back needs to be tightened on most of the chairs. However the back piece must be removed to reupholster so you can accomplish this in one step when they are reattached. I especially like the sculpted teak ox-head style backs with tapered. Curved, flattened spindles. Unmarked except for some pencil written numbers and a name on the bottom of each chair. Likely made in Sweden or possibly Denmark. Purchased directly from the estate of the original owner. Who purchased it overseas along with many other matching pieces(which I also purchased- please see my other auctions) CONDITION: Quite presentable to very presentable vintage condition. Two of the chairs have repaired legs(see photos) One of those chairs also has a repaired spindle- the very end of the top was broken and was repaired by simply raising and gluing in the spindle- the result is that the spindle sits a bit higher than the others. And there is a small gap at the bottom- it is not obvious. A third chair has some additional screws and regluing visible from the bottom. The teak has a nice patina from age. About half of the chairs have varying degrees of bite marks to some of the legs as pictured. This is not too distracting when the chairs are in use but should be noted- I have pictured these areas in detail. The upholstery on two ... moreof the seats have some dark marks as pictured. The rest of the upholstery is in very good usable condition. The 2 seats would be fairly easy to reupholster to match the rest. Or the set can be reupholstered to perfectly match your decor. The chairs are marked K.S. Made in Denmark on the underside of each seat. A couple of the slats on one of the captains chairs look like they were re-glued at some time- they are nice and firm though there is a very small gap- this is not very notable or distracting but should be mentioned. Overall these chairs are a great looking and hard to find set that will be a great addition to any mid century danish modern interior. We are selling this set in original as found condition. Danish Modern D-Scan Dining Chair Set 4 Mid Century Chairs Teak D Scan Four Mod
This auction is for one set of four D-Scan Danish Modern dining room chairs. These chairs are from a local estate. They are all sturdy and in good usable condition. Cosmetically. The wood has scratches and wear but still looks nice(see pictures) The seat and backrest material is worn, dirty, and is torn on some of the corners. We had planned on recovering them before we decided not to keep them. The chairs have"L" brackets added to the underside of each chair to give the seat portion more support. The wooden dowels that cover the screw holes on the sides of the chairs were glued in. When I took these chairs apart to get them ready for shipping, I cleaned the glue off of everything and added a double sided tape to hold the dowels in place when they are re-assembled. CONDITION: I am offering these chairs as found requiring ... moresome minor restoration(and possibly refinishing) 2 of the chairs exhibit separation/ delamination to the backs. These separations are due to failed glue along original glue joints- not splitting or breaking. I can squeeze the separations back together easily by hand so this issue will be easy to rectify simply by gluing and clamping. Notice also that there are some associated small losses of wood in these areas(tips) From my experience a competent professional furniture refinisher will be able to make these small losses disappear. Although restoration of this type may necessitate refinishing all 4 chairs. A few other joints among the 4 chairs have loosened a bit with age and will require gluing. There is one small veneer flake on the underside of one chair. Consult photos of all of this. I have exhaustively documented all condition issues. Otherwise all 4 chairs are in very good. Recently imported from the UK and manufactured in the UK at a time when many furniture manufacturers had abandoned their traditional lines in favor of producing the quality teak mid-century Danish Modern design furniture. Increasingly popular during the late 1950's through 1970's. These six side dining table chairs are among a number of pieces of Danish Modern design furniture manufactured by high end furniture makers in UK in the 1950's, 60's and 70's, all making quality teak mid-century furniture to sell within the United Kingdom at the time and, most recently, imported through Edinburgh, Scotland by my consignor.
