Pair of Maple Hitchcock Chairs with Rush Seats ~ Great Condition and Patina
Description: Here is a real nice pair of maple Hitchcock chairs that came from a stately home in Hartford CT. One of those homes where the woman had her portrait hanging over the mantle. Many fine items came out of this home including this nice pair of rush seated chairs. They are unsigned but the style is unmistakable with the turnings and the plugs on the front rail and where the pillow back top rail meets the uprights. I don’t know if this is the original rush seating but both are in very fine shape. It looks like the person who did the rush also used small nails to keep it secured safely. The patina and color of these chairs are both first rate. There are no real issues to mention. These are solid chairs that seem to have been barely sat upon as you can see in my pictures. For sale is a pair of vintage Hitchcock slat back stenciled chairs. Each is signed with L. Hitchcock. Hitchcocks-ville Conn. Warranted(with backwards N-s) Both are in decent condition with the expected wear. One has a larger chip out of the side(see photo) Could easily be disguised with some paint or a marker. The one without the chip has some(very) old scotch tape on the back. I didn't try removing it as these are sold as found. The rush seating has some minor wear but is in good sturdy condition.
