This is a pair of authentic(licensed)Marcel Breuer Wassily chairs made by Gavina and imported by Stendig. This was the only authentic maker of these chairs until Gavina was purchased by Knoll. These vintage chairs are from the 1960's i believe. One is labeled and the other has a remnant as pictured. They are in very good,all original condition. One does have some very slight pitting to the frame in out of the way places which is not really noticable. One leather arm strap has been repaired at the back seam as pictured. This sturdy pair of twin. Gently used vintage black and gold stenciled chairs still have their original 1.5" by 3.5" heavy paper labels stapled to the underside of their seats stating, Manufactured by Boling Chair Company, Siler City, NC, Pattern 264, Color Black A. The High Point Bending and Chair Company became the Boling Chair Company in 1956 and the chairs have been in our donor's family for'many years' So these beautiful chairs probably date from the early 1960s. The Boling Company is renowned for its quality workmanship. As noted in the Condition remarks there is some wear in the gold stenciling in places. And the chairs have accumulated some minor nicks and scrapes over the years. But overall, these two chairs are in remarkably good condition. They are surprisingly heavy at just under 10 lbs each; they feel solid ... moreand the rush seats are in amazingly good condition on both top and bottom. For the most part the stenciled designs are delightfully clear. The chairs stand 33 1/2 inches tall, and the seat is 17 W x 15 D by 18 H. Nice vintage set of signed Hitchcock chairs. They are signed on the back of the lowest rung. I'm not really sure how old these are. They seem to have some age on them. I also have the twin headboard hanging behind the chairs& a full size black one, that are newer but also signed and available. The rush seats are in need of repair or replacement, all have rush missing. This is not the skinny rush that is used today, it is individual pieces. I'm not sure if this type of material is available. These are larger than I thought they would be, not little tiny chairs. All four are side chairs and match.
