FOR SALE: 4 CANE BARREL CHAIRS- 3 ORIGINAL VINTAGE PIECES. WITH MAKERS STAMP, MADE IN USA. 1 REPRODUCTION CHAIR. IMPORT, NOT VINTAGE, TO REPLACE BROKEN ORIGINAL CHAIR. Description of chairs: these cane back barrel chairs on casters were picked up recently at an estate sale. And they are a beautiful vintage find! A stamp on the mechanical height adjustment knob on the bottom of the chair gives a date of 1977. 3 of the chairs are american made. Oak, and made by H.W. HULL. These are beautiful, high quality original spindle/cane barrel back chairs on casters. They have two adjustments, one for height an another to adjust the reclining feature of the chairs. These has never been repaired, and are just excellent vintage chairs. They do have some wear such as scuffs, small knicks, and some places where the original varnish is wearing down. None ... moreof that detracts from the function or form of the chairs, so they are ready to add their own distinct charm to the space you have in mind. The 4th chair is obviously a replacement for a chair that broke at one time. It was probably made in the 80's. And uses lower quality materials(plastic caster tops, I don't think it is oak, etc. it is not american made, and has a very slightly larger size and a lighter stain. The size difference isn't noticeable with general use, but the color can be noticed a bit(depends on the lighting in the room, etc) The last 2 pictures I have in the listing show the contrast of the replacement chair with the original chairs. You can see the bottom is different. And it has a slight style/color differences as well. That being said. It does blend quite well with the others, as the pictures show. Pair of swiveling club chairs purchased new in the early 60's with one continuous owner. These are commercial grade chairs made for lounges and bars but these were ordered for use in a private home and made in southern California. Measure 27" wide x 26" deep x 28" tall. Brass tacks and brass buttons used in the tuck and roll upholstery. Work and sit as they should and see above and pics for condition. To me these have early 1950's lines like some things done by Gilbert Rohde and Milo Baughman or made by Heywood Wakefield but i'm sure they were made into the 60's and were put in upscale trendy spots at the time. Solid and mechanically sound with cushions being firm with no sagging. Pretty pastel ikat pattern on cushions with a tufted backside and the frame is a light grayish blue in color. Seat cushion is removable and has a zipper. I believe the material to be a part silk and linen or possibly 100% silk but am uncertain. Wooden base needs refinished. Good solid vintage condition. Los Angeles, CA in the 1980s I believe(see tag) I suspect the fabric on the exterior of the chair is original. I recently acquired this chair from the estate of the original owner(90+ years old) From a clean. Pet-free, smoke-free home. CONDITION: This chair exhibits typical use-related ... morewear. No signs of abuse. This chair would be stunning with competent professional refurbishing(reupholstery and base refinish) BASE: There is use-related wear to the base: typical. Scattered rubs, dings and scratches as well as significant wear to the front bottom edge. The base was refinished at some point long ago. Otherwise the base is in good condition with no damages and no other significant wear. No other apparent restorations. No other significant edge wear. No chips. Cracks, breaks. A competent professional furniture refinisher should be able to make the base look like new. UPHOLSTERY/ FRAME: This chair was reupholstered at some point long ago. The fabric on the back of the chair may be original. Although the upholstery is generally in good condition I assume you will want to have the chair reupholstered. Some light soiling to the upper back rest. Otherwise the upholstery is generally clean as found. No other soiling and no stains or discolorations. No pet. Cigarette or other unpleasant odors.
