Vintage Harvest Hitchcock Rocking Chair black/gold stencil Very good condition
Vintage Black Harvest Adult Rocking chair made of solid maple from Hitchcock factory. I believe this piece dates from the 1950's This Rocking Chair has had no repairs and is intact. Signs of age are wear on the bottom of the rockers as shown in the photos and several minor indentations on seat consistent with gently used vintage furniture. The rocker was an accent piece and was always placed in the corner of a room in combination with the matching dresser and twin headboards( available in a separate auction) All belonged to my grandfather who passed away at 98 and were cottage furniture so saw minimal use. Hitchcock furniture is prepared for decorating by applying many coats of lacquer& stain to bring it to an almost completed state of finish. After a design is selected. Artists design the stencils which will be required to capture the detail of the original motif- often, as many as ten to fifteen stencils are used. Their furniture is lightly varnished. Then the stencils are set into place& outlines are cut into the wood. Colored powders are then hand rubbed into the open areas of each stenciled design. Vintage Hitchcock Harvest Chair with Eagle Stenciling Black & Natural Wood
An original L. Hitchcock occasional chair. It stands 34" tall from floor to top of back. The seat is 17.5" off the floor and the seat measures 15 3/4" wide at the widest point. It has a flower and leaf stenciled decoration across the top back and the company name stenciled across the back of the seat. The seat does have a few very minor abrasions and the paint is in wonderful condition.
